THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON THE VEHICLE COME ON RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING. THIS CAUSES THE LIGHTS TO BE INOPERABLE WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. I HAVE BEEN IN SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS FOR REAR END ACCIDENTS. STOPPED BY THE POLICE ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. ALSO THIS IS THE EXACT PROBLEM THAT GM HAS IN THE 2005-06 PONTIAC G6 BRAKE LIGHT RECALL NOTICE. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED UNDER RECALL 2 TIMES NOW. THE FIX LASTS APPROXIMATELY 3 TO 4 MONTHS, THEN THE EXACT SAME, EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, BRAKE LIGHT AND CRUISE CONTROL ISSUE RETURNS. WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS THE CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGES AT RANDOM ALSO. THIS HAS CAUSED MANY NERVE RACKING SITUATIONS WHEN CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGES IN TRAFFIC WHILE TRAVELING UP A HILL. GM'S FIX OF APPLYING DIELECTRIC GREASE TO THE CONNECTOR IS A BAND AID TYPE FIX AND IS NOT A REMEDY FOR THIS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS RECALL ISSUE. THE NEWER MODEL G6 VEHICLES DO NOT HAVE THIS ISSUE, MAKING IT OBVIOUS THAT GM SAW A NEED TO FIX THE PROBLEM IN HOUSE. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR 4 YEARS AT MINIMUM. THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS 89K MILES AND I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER SINCE NEW. I KEEP THE CAR IN IMMACULATE MECHANICAL CONDITION. THIS DEFECT NEEDS TO BE FIXED IN THE CORRECT MANNER BEFORE SOMEBODY LOSES A LIFE. *TT

I NOW NO LONGER HAVE ABS OR TRACTION CONTROL, ATLEAST ON STATED TIRE. MY IDIOT LIGHTS IN THE DASH ARE NOW CONSTANTLY ON AND PUT OUT AN ALERT DING EVERY TIME THE CAR IS STARTED. I PREVIOUSLY HAD SOME ALIGNMENT WORK DONE, BUT THAT WAS OVER 4 MONTHS AGO. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED IMMEDIATELY AFTER HITTING SAID POTHOLE. I HIT A CURB BACK IN 2007 WHICH LED TO THE ALIGNMENT WORK THAT WAS DONE A FEW MONTHS AGO. THE PLASTIC USED FOR THE WINDSHIELD WASHER JETS HAS ALSO RECENTLY CORRODED AND FELL APART, SO THEY NO LONGER WORK EITHER. *TR

MY CURRENT PROBLEM WITH MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 SOUNDS THE SAME AS THE RECALL FOR THE 2009 PONTIAC G6. TODAY (12-8-10) I HAD TO BRING IN MY CAR IN TO THE DEALER AFTER PUTTING MY CAR IN PARK, WHICH THEN PROCEEDED TO ROLL. THE WIRING SYSTEM DID NOT SEEM TO RECOGNIZE PARK OR DISCONNECTED FROM THE TRANSMISSION. I LATER TRIED TO TURN THE IGNITION AND THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN ON AT ALL. 4 MONTHS AGO I BROUGHT IT IN FOR THE KEY GETTING STUCK IN THE IGNITION BECAUSE THE CAR DIDN'T RECOGNIZE IT AS BEING IN PARK. THREE OTHER TIMES I HAD ISSUES WITH THE BRAKE/FOOT PEDDLES. I WOULD HAVE TO BREAK TO ACCELERATE AND DRIVE TO SLOW DOWN OR IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL UNTIL IT REACHED 30MPH. IT WOULD AUTOMATICALLY DRIVE IN TRACTION CONTROL AND READ DECREASED ENGINE POWER ON THE PANEL. IN ADDITION, I HAVE RECENTLY HAD A FOUNTAIN OF WATER POURING INTO MY CAR SURROUNDING THE SUNROOF ON EITHER SIDE OF PANELS BTWN THE FRONT AND REAR WINDOWS, RESULTING IN SEVERE INTERIOR DAMAGE AND SUBSEQUENT MOLD SPORES GROWING. INSTEAD OF THE FILTER SURROUNDING THE SUNROOF FILTERING WATER OUT, IT IS FILTERING WATER IN. *TR

THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS OF MAJOR CONCERN AS THEY ALL ARE. MY CAR IS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD AND ONLY 28 THOUSAND MILES WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL, IT SEEMS OTHERS OUT THERE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS, SO IT HAS TO BE THE CAR. BEFORE SOMEONE DIES THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO CALL A MANDATORY RECALL,IF THE DEALER WON'T..OR REPLACE OUR AUTO'S WITH A SAFE ONE.. *TR

WE HAD TO REPLACE AT OUR OWN EXPENSE THE BRAKE ROTORS DUE TO INFERIOR QUALITY. WE WERE HAVING THE VIBRATION ISSUE SOME MENTIONED. MY WIFE COULD NOT GET IT OUT OF PARK ONE DAY, WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. WE GOT THE SAME STORY ABOUT THE RECALL ABOUT NOT BEING COVERED BY THE RECALL AND HAVING TO GET IT DIAGNOSED AT OUR EXPENSE. LAST YEAR OUR BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED AND WE REAR ENDED A MINIVAN. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS INJURED. BUT OUR INSURANCE IS GOING UP. I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL OUR LEASE IS UP IN FEB 2010. WE WILL TRADE THIS THING IN AND GET A DEPENDABLE FOREIGN VEHICLE. *TR

I PURCHASED MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 IN JULY OF 2006. WHEN I RECEIVED IT HAD 300 MILES ON IT AND HAVE LOVED IT EVER SINCE. I WOULD SAY I NOTICED A SLIGHT POPPING NOISE AND I FELT IT AS WELL WHEN I MAKE TURNS. SHORTLY AFTER THAT MY BRAKES BEGAN TO SPUTTER AND CAUSE MY FRONT END TO SHAKE WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKES EVERY SO OFTEN. FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW I HAVE NOTICED THAT THEY SHAKE EVERY SINGLE TIME I APPLY MY BRAKES AND IT GETS WORSE AND WORSE EACH DAY. ONE LAST ITEM OF CONCERN IS REGARDING THE STEERING OF MY CAR ON ROADS AND HIGHWAYS/ FREEWAYS. MY CAR IS UNCONTROLLABLE WHEN DRIVING CAUSING IT TO SHIFT TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT QUICKLY MAKING IT HARD TO KEEP ON THE ROAD WHICH IS HAZARDOUS TO MY SAFETY AND TO THE SAFETY OF MY PASSENGERS. I HAVE READ UP ON THESE ISSUES AND IT CAME TO MY ATTENTION THAT NUMEROUS OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS SO I KNOW THAT IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE WAY I DRIVE MY CAR. I AM SATISFIED WITH MY CAR OTHERWISE, BUT AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN THE ISSUES I AM FACING TODAY ON A CAR THAT IS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD WITH 33,000 MILES ON IT. *TR

I'VE BEEN DRIVING VEHICLES FOR MANY YEARS WITHOUT BRAKE SERVICE FOR 50000 + MILES. WARRANTY IS ALMOST UP (IN 2 WEEKS) AND I'M NERVOUS. HAD STEERING COMPONENTS REPLACED BECAUSE OF A POPPING NOISE AND SHIMMYING FRONT END AS WELL AS BOTH TIE ROD ENDS (SEEMS A LITTLE TOO SOON FOR ALL THAT!). CURRENT MILEAGE IS 33,500. I DON'T HAVE MONEY TO KEEP POURING INTO THIS LEMON AFTER MY WARRANTY IS OUT. I AM NOT CURRENTLY HAVING ANY PROBLEMS, BUT WITH ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS I'VE ALREADY READ, I'M SURE MORE ISSUES ARE COMING! WHAT IS WRONG WITH GM! NO WONDER THEY ARE BANKRUPT. WHO WANTS THIS KIND OF "QUALITY" VEHICLE THEY CLAIM TO MAKE. UNFORTUNATELY, THERE ARE OTHER GM MODELS WITH THE SAME STEERING AND BRAKE ISSUES. SOMEONE WILL BE KILLED AND THEN HEAVEN HELP GM! LAWSUIT! ISSUE A RECALL FOR GOD'S SAKE! STEP UP TO THE PLATE IF YOU WANT TO RESTORE CONSUMER CONFIDENCE. START MAKING REAL "QUALITY" VEHICLES LIKE YOU USE TO. YOU CAN BUY BACK MY G6 ANYTIME! ALL I'VE EVER PURCHASED IS GM , BUT NOW I'LL GO BUY A FORD. *TR

15V064000 · Steering:electric Power Assist System

Feb 4, 2015

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured April 1, 2006, to June 30, 2006, and 2006-2007 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured April 18, 2006, to June 30, 2006. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly, free of charge. The recall began February 24, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14772. Note: This is an expansion of recall 14V-153 to cover additional vehicles built between April 1, 2006 and June 30, 2006.

May 14, 2014

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012, 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured May 26, 2004, through January 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through May 26, 2009. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the Body Control Module (BCM) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'PARK' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Any of the above failure conditions increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will relearn the brake pedal home position, free of charge. The manufacturer distributed an Interim letter to customers on July 14, 2014. The recall began on August 18, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac), 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn). GM's number for this recall is 13036.

14V224000 · Power Train:automatic Transmission; Power Train:automatic Transmission:lever And Linkage:floor Shift

Apr 30, 2014

General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on April 29, 2014, that they are recalling 56,214 model year 2007 and 2008 Saturn Aura vehicles. On May 22, 2014, GM increased the recall to include an additional 1,074,899 model year 2004-2008 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured from May 16, 2003, through October 5, 2007, model year 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured from June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, and model year 2005-2008 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured from May 26, 2004, through September 28, 2007, and equipped with 4-speed transmissions. The total number vehicles being recalled is now 1,131,113.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the transmission shift cable fractures while the vehicle is being driven, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, despite selecting the ‘PARK’ position, the transmission may not be in ‘PARK.’ If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and GM dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 14152.

Jan 30, 2009

GM IS RECALLING 8,012 MY 2005-2006 PONTIAC G6 VEHICLES. THE BRAKE LAMPS MAY NOT OPERATE PROPERLY BECAUSE OF CORROSION IN A WIRING CONNECTOR. CORROSION IN THE CONNECTOR COULD CAUSE THE BRAKE LAMPS TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS NOT BEEN DEPRESSED, OR THE LAMPS MAY NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. IN ADDITION, THE CRUISE CONTROL MAY NOT ENGAGE, AND GREATER BRAKE PEDAL FORCE MAY BE REQUIRED TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARK.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: BRAKE LAMPS THAT ARE NOT OPERATING PROPERLY MAY NOT WARN A DRIVER IN A FOLLOWING VEHICLE OF THE BRAKING STATUS AND COULD LEAD TO A CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL APPLY A DIELECTRIC LUBRICANT TO THE CONNECTOR TO PREVENT CORROSION. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FOR YOU FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 17, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT PONTIAC AT 1- 800-620-7668 OR OWNER CENTER AT WWW.GMOWNERCENTER.COM.

06V417000 · Air Bags:frontal

Oct 31, 2006

CERTAIN VEHICLES ORIGINALLY BUILT WITH CLOTH SEATS THAT WERE EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATIC AIR BAG PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM AND LATER REUPHOLSTERED WITH AFTERMARKET LEATHER SEAT COVER KITS ARE INVOLVED. TESTING HAS INDICATED THAT THE AFTERMARKET LEATHER SEAT COVERS CAN CAUSE THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM TO MALFUNCTION.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: IF THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS, THE FRONT AIR BAG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE MAY BE DISABLED WHEN IT SHOULD BE ENABLED, OR ENABLED WHEN IT SHOULD BE DISABLED. IN EITHER CASE, IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH THAT REQUIRES AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, A FRONT PASSENGER'S LEVEL OF INJURY MAY BE INCREASED.

Remedy: BECAUSE A REPLACEMENT LEATHER SEAT COVER THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM IS NOT AVAILABLE, GENERAL MOTORS (GM) WILL REPURCHASE THESE VEHICLES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TERMS STATED IN GM'S LETTER TO OWNERS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 6, 2006. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT GM AT 1-877-477-1022 TO BEGIN THE PROCESS OF REPURCHASING THEIR VEHICLE.

On May 14, 2014 General Motors (GM) announced a recall action (14V-252) involving model year (MY) 2004-12 Chevrolet Malibu, MY 2004-07 Malibu Maxx, MY 2005-10 Pontiac G6 and MY 2007-10 Saturn Aura vehicles. An increased resistance can develop in the Body Control Module connection systems and result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS, or brake light switch) circuit that can cause the brake lamps to malfunction. As a result, and according to GM, the brake lamps may illuminate when pedal application is not being applied or may not illuminate when pedal force is applied.Additionally, the cruise control may not engage or if it is engaged it may require increased pedal travel to disengage.Pedal application may not be required to move the shift lever out of PARK or additional travel may be required to move the shift lever out of PARK. Traction control, electronic stability control (ESC) and panic brake assist features may also become disabled. These failure conditions may increase the risk of a crash. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Engineering Analysis EA13-005 on June 6, 2013 to further investigate complaints alleging that the brake lights did not operate properly on MY 2005-08 Pontiac G6 vehicles. The BAS in these vehicles produces a single analog voltage output proportional to the brake pedal's position. The BAS signal is used by various systems to determine both pedal position and rate of displacement, so a failure or inaccuracy of the signal may affect multiple systems.ODI also received similar complaints on MY 2009 Pontiac G6, MY 2004-11 Chevrolet Malibu and MY 2007-09 Saturn Aura vehicles that use the same BAS.All of these above models were included in the subject vehicle population of ODI's Information Request (IR) letter to GM.Prior to the recall announcement date, ODI received 855 reports of brake light malfunction resulting in one or several of the failure conditions.Eight (8) of the reports alleged crashes, with 1 resulting in an injury. Of these crash allegations, 2 were roll-away incidents, in which the shift interlock was moved out of PARK without pedal application and the vehicle rolled into another object.Three (3) crashes involved rear-end hits, which were believed to be due to brake light reversal.ESC/Traction Control failures were the alleged cause of 2 incidents, which resulted in unresponsive brake application and in 1 case caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. One (1) crash allegation was not counted as the circumstances of the crash were not related to any of the failure modes.ODI notes that it is difficult to determine the actual cause of incidents where brake light reversal or ESC/Traction Control failures were the alleged cause. In response to ODI's IR, GM submitted 2,268 unique reports that related to brake lamp malfunction. Combined with the data submitted during Recall Query 13-001, a total of 4,664 unique complaints were submitted.Twelve (12) of the GM reports alleged a crash, with 2 reporting minor injuries and 4 alleging property damage.Of the 12 reports, 3 involved brake light reversal allegations, 4 involved roll-away incidents and 2 involved ESC/Traction Control malfunctions. ODI did not include three (3) reports that involved allegations inconsistent with the alleged defect. This investigation is closed on the basis of GM's announcement of safety recall 14V-252.The ODI complaints cited above can be reviewed at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID, see the attached list for ODI numbers.

GM HAS INDICATED THAT IT PLANS TO SEND LETTERS TO THE OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES TO INFORM THEM THAT IT WILL EXTEND THE WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR THE EPS SYSTEM IN THEIR VEHICLES TO 7 YEARS OR 70,000 MILES.STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF THE FAILURES IN THE POPULATION AFFECTED BY THE WIRING CRIMP PROBLEM INDICATE THAT THE PROBLEM IS AN EARLY LIFE FAILURE THAT SHOULD OCCUR WITHIN THE TERMS OF THE EXTENDED COVERAGE.GM'S INVESTIGATION OF EPS FAILURES IN THE SUBJECT VEHICLES IDENTIFIED A PROBLEM WITH THE CONNECTOR CRIMPS DURING THE TWO MONTH PRODUCTION RANGE COVERED BY THE WARRANTY EXTENSION.DURING THIS PERIOD THE CRIMPS MAY BE ASYMMETRICAL, RESULTING ININADEQUATE PRESSURE ON THE WIRE THAT CAN LEAD TO ELECTRICAL NOISE IN THE SIGNAL FROM THE SENSOR TO THE CONTROLLER.THE CONTROLLER MAY INTERPRET THIS ELECTRICAL NOISE AS A MALFUNCTION OF THE SYSTEM AND DEFAULT TO MANUAL MODE (I.E., TURN OFF THE EPS SYSTEM).IF THE POWER STEERING ASSIST IS LOST, THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER (DIC) DISPLAYS A POWER STEERING WARNING MESSAGE, A CHIME IS SOUNDED, ANDTHE SERVICE VEHICLE SOON LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE.IN MANUAL MODE THE STEERING REQUIRES INCREASED EFFORT, ESPECIALLY AT SPEEDS LESS THAN 20 MILES PER HOUR (MPH).ODI'S ANALYSIS OF THE FAILURE DATA SHOW THAT APPROXIMATELY 30 PERCENT OF THE COMPLAINTS AND FIELD REPORTS (569 OF 1913) INVOLVE VEHICLES BUILT IN THE RANGE COVERED BY GM'S EXTENDED POLICY, WHICH ACCOUNT FOR ONLY ABOUT 7 PERCENT OF THE SUBJECT VEHICLE POPULATION.THE COMPLAINT RATE FOR THE NON-PEAK MONTHS IS RELATIVELY HIGH, AT 673 PER 100,000 VEHICLES.THE RATE FOR THE PEAK MONTHS IS 5 TIMES HIGHER AT 3,645 PER 100,000 VEHICLES.SIMILAR DIFFERENCES ARE EVIDENT IN THE WARRANTY DATA, WITH APPROXIMATELY 27 PERCENT OF THE EPS WARRANTY CLAIMS (1120 OF 4145) INVOLVING VEHICLES BUILT IN THE PEAK MONTHS.THE WARRANTY RATE FOR THE NON-PEAK MONTHS IS 1.5% AND THE RATE FOR THE PEAK MONTHS IS 7.2%.ODI IDENTIFIED 9 CRASHES THAT ARE POTENTIALLY RELATED TO EPS SYSTEM FAILURE IN THE SUBJECT VEHICLES.THE CRASHES OCCURRED AT LOW SPEEDS, SUCH AS DRIVEWAY AND PARKING LOT TYPE MANEUVERS.THE CRASHES RESULTED IN ONE ALLEGED INJURY, BUT ODI WAS UNABLE TO OBTAIN INFORMATION ABOUT THE TYPE OR SEVERITY OF THE INJURY.NONE OF THE CRASHES INVOLVE VEHICLES BUILT IN THE TWO MONTH PERIOD COVERED BY GM'S EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE.THE SUBJECT VEHICLES USE THE SAME EPS SYSTEM AS THE MY 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU VEHICLES INVESTIGATED BY ODI IN EA04-018.ALTHOUGH THE FAILURE RATES ARE HIGH IN THIS INVESTIGATION, PARTICULARLY FOR THE PEAK MONTHS, THEY ARE SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER THAN FOR THE MALIBU VEHICLES INVESTIGATED IN EA04-018.AS IN THOSE VEHICLES, THE EFFECTS ON STEERING EFFORT ARE SMALL AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 15-20 MPH.ACCORDINGLY, THIS INVESTIGATION IS CLOSED. THE CLOSING OF THIS INVESTIGATION DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A FINDING BY NHTSA THAT A SAFETY-RELATED DEFECT DOES NOT EXIST. THE AGENCY WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR COMPLAINTS AND INFORMATION RELATING TO THE ALLEGED DEFECT IN THE SUBJECT VEHICLES AND TAKE FURTHER ACTION IN THE FUTURE IF WARRANTED.
