The engine failed, and yes its available for inspection, my safety was put at risk due to the white billowing smoke out the exhaust and the smell entering in the vehicle while driving down the interstate, i proceeded to pull off onto an exit and stop at a red light and my car made me put into park and then proceeded to not crank or move other then neutral, The problem was originally part of an active recall of R25D10 Reprogramming the ECM, and P4A470 replacing the turbo hose. I originally brought my vehicle to Nissan Dealership to have those fixed on February 6th 2026. However after finding that my vehicle ended up with low oil and dried my entire system of coolant, and then proceeded to turn off in traffic on August 22nd 2026, I became aware of an extended recall that did not notify me or my specific Vin yet in the system, however the recall had been upgraded since February 11th 2026. The only warning lights were saying I needed an oil change soon, the check service warning, and the coolant temperature gauge getting hot when my engine was needing to drive, and before shutting off the car told me to put into park, pressing on the gas would not move the car. The new recall codes are R25E2, and R25E3?

The vehicle experienced a catastrophic engine/motor failure. The engine became extremely loud/rattled and subsequently locked up, causing the vehicle to lose the ability to operate. The vehicle is currently being held for diagnosis/repair and should be available for inspection upon request. The vehicle experienced the failure while I was driving and left me stranded on a mountain. The vehicle lost its ability to operate, creating a significant safety risk because I was left stopped and without reliable transportation. A sudden engine failure while driving could also create a traffic hazard for the occupants and other motorists. Yes. The vehicle has been taken to a Nissan dealership for diagnosis following the failure. The vehicle experienced a catastrophic engine failure/lock-up. I am requesting the dealership’s written diagnostic report and confirmation of the exact failed component. The vehicle has been presented to Nissan for inspection and diagnosis. Nissan is currently involved in determining the cause of the engine failure. There has not been a police inspection that I am aware of. I am requesting that Nissan preserve and provide all diagnostic findings, photographs, technician notes, and repair records. Prior to the failure, the vehicle began exhibiting abnormal engine symptoms, including a loud/rattling engine noise and difficulty operating normally. The symptoms occurred shortly before the catastrophic failure on August 14, 2026. The vehicle subsequently became inoperable when the engine locked up. I am requesting the dealer’s diagnostic scan to determine whether any warning codes or messages were stored before or during the failure.

While driving my 2023 Nissan Rogue at approximately 65 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost power while in motion, creating a serious risk of a crash and placing my safety and the safety of other motorists at risk. There were no oil warning lights, malfunction indicator lights, or other warnings indicating an impending engine failure. After losing power, the vehicle would not restart and was completely undriveable. It had to be towed to an authorized Nissan dealership. The dealership initially advised that the no-start condition was related to the battery cable and required me to pay for a battery cable repair. My battery was only a few months old and independently tested as good. The vehicle remained inoperable after the battery cable repair, and I was subsequently informed that the engine had failed. During the oil-pan inspection, the Nissan technician documented the inspection by video and specifically identified metallic debris in the oil pan. The dealership also reported sludge. I retained the dealership’s video documentation. My vehicle is subject to a Nissan safety recall involving engine bearing degradation that can result in engine failure and loss of motive power. The recall remedy includes inspection of the oil pan for metallic debris and engine replacement when necessary. Despite the loss of power at approximately 65 mph, engine failure, and metallic debris identified by its own technician, Nissan denied the recall repair based on sludge. Nissan Consumer Affairs also denied my escalation. I am requesting NHTSA review Nissan’s refusal to perform the safety recall remedy and determine whether the recalled bearing condition caused or contributed to this failure. The vehicle remains at the Nissan dealership and is available for inspection.

The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving out of town, the vehicle suddenly went into LIMP Mode. The accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to exceed 70 MPH and decelerated unintendedly. The vehicle was driven approximately 30 MPH to the residence. The message “Engine Malfunction” was displayed, and the temperature gauge rose to HOT. The 4WD message was displayed. The vehicle was pulled over and inspected, and the contact became aware that one of the coolant reservoirs was empty, and coolant was added to the coolant reservoir. The odometer and infotainment screen also repeatedly turned on and off. The vehicle was towed to a local Nissan dealer, where it was diagnosed with a coolant leak in the engine, which caused the engine failure and turbocharger failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V080000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer opened a case regarding the failure but offered to cover only 30 percent of the cost of the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 95,600.

My 2023 Nissan Rogue SL FWD began exhibiting a jerking/kicking sensation from the transmission starting in approximately June 2026. Initially, the vehicle moved smoothly on level surfaces, but whenever I had to apply the accelerator pedal from a stop to start moving, a distinct kick or jerk would occur. I did not initially consider this a serious issue. In July 2026, an engine repair was performed on the vehicle. Following that repair, the transmission jerking issue worsened significantly. It now occurs every single time I start the vehicle moving from a stop and press the accelerator pedal - not intermittently, but consistently. Notably, the jerk does NOT occur while the vehicle is at a standstill (e.g., stopped at a red light) - it only occurs during the initial acceleration from a stop. This behavior is consistent with widely reported CVT shudder/jerk issues documented by other Nissan Rogue owners, in prior NHTSA complaints, and in class action litigation regarding Nissan’s CVT transmissions. I am concerned this represents a safety-related defect, as unexpected jerking during acceleration from a stop (e.g., pulling into traffic or merging) could increase the risk of a collision. I am a single mother of three children, and this vehicle is my family’s only means of transportation. I am reporting this issue now, before an accident occurs, because I am concerned about the safety risk of unexpected jerking during acceleration, especially when merging into traffic with my children in the car. I am filing this complaint to formally document the issue with NHTSA and am also pursuing repair of this defect under the vehicle’s factory warranty.

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Rogue vehicles equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. Increased temperatures can break down the engine oil, which may cause the engine bearings to seize and become damaged, leading to engine failure.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Engine failure can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. A bearing failure may cause a breach in the engine block, allowing hot oil to be discharged, increasing the risk of an engine fire.

Remedy: Dealers will reprogram the engine control module (ECM) software, inspect for diagnostic trouble codes, and test drive the vehicle, free of charge. The dealer may also inspect the oil pan for metal debris, and replace the engine if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 8, 2026. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R25E2 and R25E3. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 25V437. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning February 27, 2026.

(Nissan) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Rogue, 2019-2020 Altima, 2019-2022 Infiniti QX50, and 2022 Infiniti QX55 vehicles equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L or 4-cylinder 2.0L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. The engine bearings may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine failure.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Engine failure increases the risk of a crash. A bearing failure may cause a breach in the engine block, allowing hot oil to be discharged, increasing the risk of an engine fire.

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023 Rogue vehicles. The driver and front passenger seat belt pretensioners may have been incorrectly manufactured, which can cause the seat belts to not properly restrain occupants. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection," 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies," and 210 "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Improperly restrained occupants have an increased risk of injury during a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the front seat belt assemblies, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 26, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PD105.

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2024 Titan, Frontier, Infiniti QX60, Pathfinder, 2023-2024 Sentra, Versa, Kicks, Infiniti QX50, and 2023 Rogue vehicles. Due to a manufacturing issue, the driver's air bag inflator may absorb moisture, and cause the air bag to deploy improperly.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: An air bag that deploys improperly may not protect the driver as intended during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the front driver's air bag assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's numbers for this recall are PD103, PD104, and PMA34.

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023 Nissan Rogue vehicles. The fastener in the rear seat belt anchor attachment points may not have been tightened properly and can loosen over time.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A loose rear seat belt anchor fastener may not properly restrain an occupant in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and tighten the rear seat belt anchor bolts. Additionally, dealers will apply warning labels to the seat belt attachment points to indicate the bolt size and torque value required for any future seat belt repair. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 14, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023 Rogue, Pathfinder, and Infiniti QX60 vehicles. The driver's powered seat may not be fully secured to the seat frame, causing the seat frame welds to detach from the rear inboard seat bracket.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: An unsecured seat with broken welds may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect the driver's seat rail clearance, and if necessary, replace the driver's seat cushion frame, free of charge. PE24020 · 2021 Nissan Rogue Inner Tie Rod Failures

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this investigation to assess allegations of tie rod bending, deformation, or related steering linkage damage in certain 2021 Nissan Rogue vehicles. A bent tie rod can affect wheel alignment and steering geometry, and in some circumstances may result in steering pull, abnormal tire wear, reduced steering precision, difficulty maintaining directional control, or loss of vehicle steering control, increasing the risk of a crash. ODI reviewed Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs), Early Warning Reporting data, manufacturer field reports, warranty claims, consumer complaints submitted to the manufacturer, and other information provided by Nissan in response to ODI’s information request. ODI also evaluated the reported failure circumstances, vehicle age and mileage, incident severity, and whether the available evidence indicated a defect trend occurring in the absence of external impact or other non-defect causes. Based on the information reviewed, ODI identified a low number of tie rod bending or deformation allegations relative to the subject vehicle population and exposure. The available reports did not indicate a consistent failure pattern, common production period, common mileage, or repeatable failure mode suggestive of a safety-related defect. Many of the reviewed incidents involved circumstances consistent with external loading or impact-related damage, including pothole strikes, curb contact, road debris impacts, prior collision damage, or other abnormal steering/suspension loads. ODI’s analysis did not identify a trend of tie rod bending occurring during normal vehicle operation without evidence of external influence. The complaint and warranty rates were low, and ODI did not identify a pattern of crashes, injuries, or loss-of-control events attributable to a tie rod defect in the subject vehicles. Accordingly, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. On December 13, 2023, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE23-023 to investigate allegations of engine failures leading to loss of motive power in model year (MY) 2021-2023 Nissan Rogue; MY 2019-2021 Nissan Altima; and MY 2019-2021 Infiniti QX50 vehicles. At that time, ODI had received 6 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) and multiple early warning reports, with consumers reporting engine knocking noises accompanied by a loss of engine power while driving. The investigation identified bearing failures in certain vehicles equipped with the subject 3-cylinder 1.5L or 4-cylinder 2.0L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. ODI also identified early warning reports describing thermal incidents that occurred immediately after the vehicle suffered a catastrophic engine failure.  The failures were the result of a manufacturing defect in specific engine bearings (main, A-, C-, and L-link) or other engine components that may cause engine damage and potentially lead to engine failure. Engine failure can result in a loss of motive power event that can increase the risk of a crash.  Engine failure might also result in a fire if internal components detach and impact the engine block creating a hole that allows engine oil to reach hot surfaces. In its April 2024, May 2024, and June 2025 responses to ODI’s information requests, Nissan provided 998 customer reports (including complaints, field reports, and legal claims) and 1,107 warranty claims related to the alleged defect.  When combining ODI and manufacturer report data, there are 1,878 unique VINs that have experienced failures across all subject vehicles.  In one of the early warning reports, ODI identified an incident involving a 2022 Infiniti QX55 that resulted in an engine fire following an alleged engine failure. The 2022 Infiniti QX55 was not included in the scope of this investigation but the vehicle model shares the same 4-cylinder 2.0L variable compression turbo engine.  Based on the information included with the early warning report, the fire can be directly related to the alleged defect.   A further review of ODI and manufacturer data, identified 12 allegations of engine compartment fires in subject vehicles; three were confirmed as directly related to the engine failure, and nine reports described an under-hood fire that occurred following a loss of power event. Additionally, ODI identified multiple reports describing an engine block crack or hole surrounded by oil residue following an engine failure. On June 27, 2025, Nissan submitted recall 25V-437 involving 443,899 MY 2021-2023 Nissan Rogue, MY 2019-2021 Nissan Altima; MY 2019-2021 Infiniti QX50; and 2022 Infiniti QX55 vehicles. The recall remedy provides the dealer instructions to inspect the engine oil pan for the presence of specific metal debris. For customers with the 3-cylinder 1.5L VC-Turbo engine, if no debris is detected during the inspection, dealers will replace the oil pan gasket, engine oil, and reprogram the vehicle’s Engine Control Module (ECM). For customers with the 4-cylinder 2.0L VC-Turbo engine, if no debris is detected, dealers will replace the engine oil. In the case where specific debris is detected and confirmed by Nissan Powertrain Call Center, dealers will be instructed to replace the engine. In addition, Nissan will extend the vehicle warranty to 10 years and 120,000 miles for the recall subject vehicle population after the dealer performs the inspection. Nissan has implemented multiple corrective actions to address the identified manufacturing defects of certain engine block internal components.  In view of the recall action (25V437) taken by Nissan, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation. Engine And Engine Cooling

On December 13, 2023, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE23-023 to investigate allegations of engine failures leading to loss of motive power in model year (MY) 2021-2023 Nissan Rogue; MY 2019-2021 Nissan Altima; and MY 2019-2021 Infiniti QX50 vehicles. At that time, ODI had received 6 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) and multiple early warning reports, with consumers reporting engine knocking noises accompanied by a loss of engine power while driving. The investigation identified bearing failures in certain vehicles equipped with the subject 3-cylinder 1.5L or 4-cylinder 2.0L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. ODI also identified early warning reports describing thermal incidents that occurred immediately after the vehicle suffered a catastrophic engine failure.  The failures were the result of a manufacturing defect in specific engine bearings (main, A-, C-, and L-link) or other engine components that may cause engine damage and potentially lead to engine failure. Engine failure can result in a loss of motive power event that can increase the risk of a crash.  Engine failure might also result in a fire if internal components detach and impact the engine block creating a hole that allows engine oil to reach hot surfaces. In its April 2024, May 2024, and June 2025 responses to ODI’s information requests, Nissan provided 998 customer reports (including complaints, field reports, and legal claims) and 1,107 warranty claims related to the alleged defect.  When combining ODI and manufacturer report data, there are 1,878 unique VINs that have experienced failures across all subject vehicles.  In one of the early warning reports, ODI identified an incident involving a 2022 Infiniti QX55 that resulted in an engine fire following an alleged engine failure. The 2022 Infiniti QX55 was not included in the scope of this investigation but the vehicle model shares the same 4-cylinder 2.0L variable compression turbo engine.  Based on the information included with the early warning report, the fire can be directly related to the alleged defect.   A further review of ODI and manufacturer data, identified 12 allegations of engine compartment fires in subject vehicles; three were confirmed as directly related to the engine failure, and nine reports described an under-hood fire that occurred following a loss of power event. Additionally, ODI identified multiple reports describing an engine block crack or hole surrounded by oil residue following an engine failure. On June 27, 2025, Nissan submitted recall 25V-437 involving 443,899 MY 2021-2023 Nissan Rogue, MY 2019-2021 Nissan Altima; MY 2019-2021 Infiniti QX50; and 2022 Infiniti QX55 vehicles. The recall remedy provides the dealer instructions to inspect the engine oil pan for the presence of specific metal debris.
