Shortly after purchasing the vehicle, the airbag warning light illuminated. I took the vehicle to a Nissan dealership in Texas for diagnosis. The technician confirmed that the airbag fault was present before the vehicle was sold to me. According to the diagnostic records, the selling dealer (Kelly Nissan in Oak Lawn, Illinois) had previously scanned the airbag system, identified an airbag fault code, cleared the code without performing the repair, and then proceeded to sell the vehicle. This means the airbag defect existed at the time of sale and was intentionally or negligently undisclosed. The system continues to show a malfunction indicator, and the Clay Cooley Nissan dealership in Richardson, Texas identified the issue as an electrical airbag system failure requiring a repair estimated at $2,304.15. This defect affects the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which may result in: Airbags failing to deploy during a crash Improper deployment Increased risk of injury or death The vehicle is unsafe to drive in its current condition. The selling dealer refuses to authorize repair outside Illinois, leaving me with an unsafe vehicle that cannot be feasibly transported. Nissan Corporate states this is the dealer's responsibility and will not intervene. Given that this defect relates directly to the federally regulated airbag safety system, I am requesting NHTSA’s investigation into whether this represents a broader issue of airbag system defects or improper clearing of airbag fault codes prior to sale by the dealer.
NHTSA Campaign #: 16V244000 Passenger airbag off
The passenger side air bag shows as off when someone is sitting in the seat. This was a recall issue on other model Rogues and this is a serious safety hazard. Nissan should be making this a recall for other model years!

The passenger seat OFF light is constantly on regardless of someone in the seat. Mechanic tried to reprogram and fix the car computer. That did not work so mechanic took the rogue to the local…

Took car to local mechanic for airbag light. The passenger seat sensors register that someone is not sitting in the seat when someone is. The passenger seat OFF light is constantly on regardless of someone in the seat. Mechanic tried to reprogram and fix the car computer. That did not work so mechanic took the rogue to the local Nissan to have them reprogram the computer. The dealer could not reprogram it. The next solution was to replace the passenger seat sensors or the entire passenger seat and then reprogram the computer. Elected to not fix this as this was a similar from a recall of 2016 and earlier Nissan rogues.

My 16 year old son was driving the 2017 nissan rogue on [XXX] to our home around 7:30 pm. He veered and right front of vehicle struck a curb. Immediately the passenger side airbags exploded. The two airbag curtain side bags and the front passenger seat side airbag all 3 deployed. First, the airbags should not have deployed and secondly, if this had been a collision with another vehicle, the specific airbags that deployed wouldn't have prevented injury. If there had been a passenger in the front seat, they could have been severely injured by the deployment. The car was towed to a nissan dealership who ran a diagnostic for 200.00. They advised that the cost to replace would be 14K. Given the takata airbag recalls, I should have received a recall notice as I am the original owner of this vehicle. Luckily my son was not injured, but I need to report and hear back from this incident! I believe I should be reimbursed by nissan the replacement value of my vehicle. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The airbag system in my 2017 Nissan Rogue malfunctioned. The airbag warning light turned on, indicating a potential failure in the system. The vehicle and its components are available for inspection if needed. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The malfunctioning airbag system compromises the vehicle's ability to deploy airbags in the event of a collision, putting my safety and the safety of others at risk. If the airbags do not deploy correctly during an accident, it could lead to severe injuries or even fatalities. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, the problem has been confirmed by a Nissan dealership. They informed me that the airbag system malfunctioned due to a defect in the sensor, and they recommended a repair costing approximately $4,000. However, they stated that the repair would not be covered under warranty. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The vehicle has been inspected by a Nissan dealership, which confirmed the issue with the airbag system. The vehicle has not been inspected by police, insurance representatives, or other independent service centers. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? 2PE19010 · False Automatic Emergency Braking
Opened Sep 9, 2019 · No close date supplied
Status: open (inferred from source dates) · Forward Collision Avoidance: Automatic Emergency Braking
NHTSA received a defect petition (DP19-001) from the Center for Auto Safety (CAS) on March 21, 2019 alleging that the Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system on Model Year (MY) 2017-2018 Nissan Rogue and Rogue Sport vehicles was engaging in cases where there was no obstruction in the path of the vehicle. The CAS petition additionally alleges that, based on Nissan's actions, the manufacturer is aware of the issue due to issuing a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) launching two "Quality Actions," and initiating a "Customer Service Initiative" in relation to it. CAS contends that Nissan's actions do not represent an adequate long-term solution to the problem, as the action is only available during the basic coverage period of the warranty. CAS also argues that the alleged failures are an unreasonable risk to safety and views Nissan's communications as not acknowledging the potential safety issue involved, instead treating the alleged problem as a performance update. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) analyzed Vehicle Owner Questionnaire (VOQ) complaints received from consumers and identified a total of 129 unique subject vehicle reports (for all submission dates) alleging a false positive triggering of AEB. Of these complaints, three were identified that contained allegations of a collision resulting from the activation of the system, and all three indicating related injuries. In response to ODI's April 15, 2019 Information Request letter, Nissan provided data indicating that it has received 750 unique subject vehicle complaints relating to false positive activation of the AEB system. Of these complaints, 12 were identified that contained allegations of a collision resulting from the activation of the system. Four complaints contained allegations of injuries, three of which were the result of a collision. These complaints included duplicates of complaints that ODI received. The injury allegations were limited to soft tissue type injuries such as whiplash and bruising.Based on its review of the information identified to date, ODI has granted the petition and is opening this preliminary evaluation in order to evaluate the cause, scope and frequency of AEB false positive activations, as well as to evaluate the suitability of the manufacturer's campaign to address the concern or improve performance of the AEB system. The complaints cited can be viewed at NHTSA.gov under the following ODI identification numbers: 11230875, 11230481, 11230361, 11229400, 11229302, 11229294, 11228994, 11223074, 11222925, 11222644, 11220499, 11218713, 11218608, 11217157, 11210334, 11210256, 11210148, 11209127, 11209032, 11207333, 11205931, 11205717, 11205661, 11205172, 11205124, 11205027, 11204803, 11204349, 11204324, 11196805, 11196561, 11196466, 11196091, 11195938, 11195574, 11194380, 11193989, 11192761, 11192283, 11192063, 11190855, 11190840, 11189976, 11187374, 11186903, 11185890, 11185883, 11185132, 11183406, 11180813, 11174713, 11173666, 11173302, 11172299, 11171331, 11170989, 11165434, 11164646, 11162898, 11162502, 11162396, 11161413, 11161230, 11155985, 11155209, 11155181, 11154181, 11153607, 11153334, 11151373, 11151028, 11142595, 11142557, 11142386, 11141775, 11141433, 11141387, 11141347, 11140604, 11139711, 11139226, 11133402, 11132376, 11130998, 11130662, 11129949, 11128704, 11124099, 11123564, 11123353, 11123321, 11122783, 11119475, 11119300, 11118604, 11115088, 11113479, 11113371, 11112371, 11111659, 11111057, 11110919, 11110689, 11104075, 11103844, 11103437, 11102715, 11102333, 11100117, 11099313, 11091006, 11089960, 11089798, 11089533, 11088815, 11088718, 11081072, 11079453, 11073644, 11072718, 11065505, 11061598, 11057739, 11056061, 11055766, 11048349, 11035301, 11033225, and 10972343.
