FUEL GAGE INDICATED THAT I HAD A BIT LESS THAN 1/2 TANK OF FUEL. RUN OUT OF FUEL AS THE FUEL SENDING UNIT WAS DISPLAYING THE WRONG AMOUNT OF FUEL SHORTLY AFTER THAT THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A P0463 CODE DEFECTIVE FUEL SENDING UNIT. CALLED NISSAN OF NORTH AMERICA FOR SUPPORT WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER IN ORDER FOR NISSAN TO HONOR THE WARRANTY. SPENT $106 DOLLARS THE FIRST TIME AT THE SHOP AND THEN $104 AT THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP. AFTER SEVERAL CALLS TO NISSAN NORTH AMERICA CUSTOMER AFFAIRS I WAS TOLD THAT THE FUEL SENDING UNIT IS NOT COVERED, THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE THAT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING HOW CAN IT BE POSSIBLE THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED, IT ONLY HAS 33K MILES...THIS IS A LARGER ISSUE THAT NEEDS ATTENTION BY NHTSA AS THERE HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED ACCIDENTS FROM PEOPLE RUNNING OUT OF FUEL ON THE FREEWAY. I'VE RUN OUT OF FUEL 3 TIMES IN THE PAST 3 MONTHS AS I DEAL WITH NISSAN TO SEE IF THEY CAN DO ANYTHING ABOUT MY ISSUE.

TRAVELING ALONG HWY 209 IN BIGFORK, MT, I NOTICED MY GAS GAUGE NEEDLE DROP FROM 1/2 TANK TO BELOW ZERO AND IMMEDIATELY THE FUEL LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. A MILE DOWN THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE STALLED AND HAD TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY PULL-OVER WITH MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE CAR. THANKFULLY, THE TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT THAT DAY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER SAFELY, AND I HAD CELL SERVICE. I CALLED MY HUSBAND AND LET HIM KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. HE BROUGHT GAS AND, SURE ENOUGH, THE TRUCK STARTED ONCE AGAIN, BUT DID NOT REGISTER FUEL AGAIN UNTIL I FILLED THE TANK COMPLETELY. IT CONTINUES TO REPEAT THIS CYCLE WHERE IT WILL REGISTER UNTIL A CERTAIN FUEL LEVEL AND THEN THE NEEDLE WILL DIVE TO BELOW EMPTY.

APPARENTLY, TRANSMISSION IS RUINED DUE TO A KNOWN DEFECT WITH THE RADIATOR WHERE COOLANT LEAKS INTO THE TRANSMISSION. NISSAN NEVER ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY, JUST EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 100,000 MILES, LEAVING THE CONSUMER RESPONSIBLE TO FIXED CATASTROPHIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE. COST $6500. *TR

NISSAN FRONTIER HAS BEEN JERKING SPORADICALLY FOR A MONTH DRIVING LOCALLY AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS CITY OR HIGHWAY. I ASSUMED IT WAS CHEAP FUEL AND A NEEDED TUNE UP. I DECIDED TO TAKE THE TRUCK IN FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AT FIRESTONE AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OR ISSUE OF THE JERKING. REQUESTED DIAGRAMS OF THE ENGINE WAS UNREADABLE AND NO HELP. FIRESTONE RECOMMENDED I TAKE IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND THEY QUOTED A $5000 PLUS REPAIR BILL. THIS SEEM OUT OF THE ORDINARY FOR SIMPLE JERKING AND NO OTHER SYMPTOMS. IN ADDITION THEY HAD NOTED ON THE DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR BILL SOME OTHER REPAIRS THAT OBVIOUS NEEDED FIXING AS GOOD CONDITION. IMMEDIATELY I KNEW THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST PERFORMED WAS FALSE- THE MECHANIC DID NOT DIAGNOSE/TEST MY VEHICLE CORRECTLY AND THE REPAIR QUOTED WAS DUE TO AN ISSUE THEY NEW ABOUT FROM THE START. THAT'S WHEN I STARTED DOING ONLINE RESEARCH TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS ARE PROBLEMS GOING ON WITH THE NISSAN FRONTIER. MY GUESS WAS CORRECT. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS FAULT REGARDING THE TRANSMISSION AND SUBSEQUENT ISSUE OF THE RADIATOR. NISSAN DEALERS ARE THEN CHARGING CUSTOMERS TO FIX AN ISSUE THAT WILL RE-APPEAR. CUSTOMERS SHOULD HAVE SOME RECOURSE OTHER THAN SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON PRODUCT DEFECT AND THAT RECOURSE SHOULD BE A RECALL OF THESE DEFECTIVE VEHICLES TO BE REPAIRED. WHERE IS THE FAIRNESS AND WHY DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE OR BE SERIOUSLY INJURED TO PROVE THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT IN THE PRODUCT, NISSAN KNOWS ITS A DEFECT. *TR

I AM BLOWN AWAY THAT NISSAN HAS NOT HAD THE COURAGE TO ORDER A RECALL ON THIS WELL KNOWN ISSUE. HOPEFULLY THIS WILL NOT RESULT IN A NUMBER OF FATALITIES BEFORE THEY "DO THE RIGHT THING". VERY UNFORTUNATE AND A POOR FORM OF CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR OWNERS WHO WILL MOST LIKELY SEEK A DIFFERENT BRAND AS THERE NEXT PURCHASE. *TR
