FROM:[XXX] SUBJECT:2006 LEXUS GX 470 ACCELERATION HELLO, MY 44 YEAR-OLD WIFE [XXX] WAS DRIVING HER 2006 LEXUS GX 470 THIS MORNING IN SEATTLE, WA. AS SHE WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. DESPITE HITTING THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES, THE CAR DID NOT STOP AND ENDED UP JUMPING A CURB AND CRASHING INTO A CHAIN LINK FENCE. THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS HURT. SHE CALLED OUR LEXUS DEALERSHIP IN BELLEVUE, WA. THEY TOLD US THAT SINCE IT WAS A PRODUCT LIABILITY ISSUE THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE US A LOANER CAR AND WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO INSPECT THE CAR FOR TWO WEEKS. MY WIFE HAS NO CONFIDENCE IN OUR LEXUS AND WANTS TO SELL IT AS SOON AS IT IS FIXED UP FROM THE ACCIDENT (WE ARE FILING AN INSURANCE CLAIM AND ALSO FILED A POLICE REPORT). I AM ALSO VERY UNHAPPY WITH THE RESPONSE OF LEXUS NOT TO PROVIDE A LOANER VEHICLE AND IMMEDIATELY INSPECT THE CAR. A FRIEND OF OURS SUGGESTED WE CONTACT NHTSA. YOU MAY REACH ME AT [XXX] OR [XXX]. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2003-2006 Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus LX470, 2005-2006 Toyota Tundra and Sequoia, 2004-2006 Toyota 4Runner and Lexus GX470 vehicles equipped with side curtain-shield-air bags. The affected vehicles have an air bag control module that may be improperly programmed, causing the side curtain-shield-air bags to deploy inadvertently.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the side curtain-shield-air bags deploy unexpectedly, it can increase the risk of occupant injury.

Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the air bag control module with one that has improved programming, free of charge. The recall began on December 1, 2016. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-271-9371. Toyota's number for this recall is G0C and GLB.
