My 2022 Kia EV6 has repeatedly shut off while parked and while in motion, placing myself, my [XXX] child, and other drivers at serious risk. The vehicle’s Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failed and was replaced, but the replacement ICCU also malfunctioned. This second failure caused a near-collision involving three vehicles. A Ford F-150 had to swerve off the road to avoid hitting me. The most recent incident occurred while dropping off my son, when the vehicle lost all power in traffic. Kia later confirmed that they could not guarantee this issue would not happen again. This statement came after I notified them of the near-accident and the ongoing shutdowns. Despite this, Kia has refused to buy back the vehicle or provide a safe resolution. The vehicle has been out of service for over 30 cumulative days and has undergone two ICCU replacements and one 12V battery replacement. Kia issued a recall notice for the ICCU in December 2024, but the issue persisted even after recall servicing. The defect has been inspected and confirmed by Kia dealerships, and all repair documentation is available. There were no warning lights or alerts before shutdowns. The system fails randomly and without warning, making the car unpredictable and unsafe to operate. While driving a warning about battery and electrical sysytem failure. Vehicle would not drive more thsn 10mph. I was able to limp home about 1 mile away where the car died. Could not restart with a jumper battery.

Once again, the ICCU on the car failed requiring intervention / towing. This is the second outage of the ICCU. This issue happened in early April 2025 (April 8th I believe). My car was parked at work. I entered my car after work and turned on the car. I heard a pop from the rear passenger side identical to the issue as it had happened last January (2024). Shortly thereafter, the check electrical system warning came on. I briefly attempted to drive car to move it to where would likely be an easier spot for the purposes of towing (one parking lot over that is not gated). During that brief drive (roughly 1/4 of a mile), the car immediately began issuing warnings requesting that I pull over and stop. I entered the nearby parking lot and parked the car where it was towed the next day to the dealership.

24V200 KIA recall is not being upheld by the manufacturer. they are only performing recall in a small subset of customers - hundreds if not thousands are being fobbed off (by JUST doing software updates) even when having to be towed in 4 or 5 times. In my case i have been towed 4 times. one of the times by power failed with little warning - the other 3 times it would not start in the morning - the car does not give many minutes/miles of wanring as recommended by NHTSA to allow driver to pull over safely. THIS WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT CRASH - it is just a matter of time. in my case kia is refusing to replace ICCU even though my vehicel is covered by the recall and has lost power 4 times - this is a scandal.

Regarding NHTSA Recall No. \/ MFR Recall No. : 24V-867 \/ SC327, I have contacted Kia America by email who is avoiding to take action in rectifying the SC327 defect. I was leaving a parking space when I heard a pop in the right rear of the vehicle. I merged in to traffic and drove stop and go for about three blocks when a warnning message appeared on the dash saying that there was an electrical issue. I've been following this issue on various model specific forums so I was sure what had happened and knew that I had to get off the road quickly. I was able to find an open parking lot and immediately called for KIA roadside assistance. By the time the tow truck arrived all electrical systems were dead. It was towed to the dealer and the next day I was informed that diagnostics determined that the vehicle had a failed ICCU (Integrated Charge Control Unit). This vehicle has had the recalls that addressed this issue with software updates.

Kia America, Inc. (Kia) is recalling certain 2022-2024 EV6 and 2024 EV9 vehicles. The high voltage battery cells may contain misaligned electrodes, which can lead to a fire while parked or driving.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A fire increases the risk of injury.
Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures and limit their charge to a maximum of 80% until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the high voltage battery system assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 7, 2026. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC375. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning July 17, 2026.

Kia Motor America (Kia) is recalling certain 2022 EV6 vehicles. A software error in the Shifter Control Unit (SCU) may disengage the parking mechanism, which can allow the vehicle to rollaway.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Vehicle rollaway can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
Remedy: Drivers are recommended to park their vehicles on level ground and avoid parking on a slope/inclined surface whenever possible until the remedy has been performed. Dealers will update the Shifter Control Unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 25, 2022. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC236.

On July 3, 2023, the Office of Defect Investigation (ODI) opened PE23012 to investigate allegations of loss of motor power on model year (MY) 2022 Kia EV6 vehicles. Some consumers reported loss of motor power immediately after warning lamp illumination or reduction of motive power while the vehicle was in motion. This investigation found that the Integrated Charing Unit (ICCU) may become damaged over time from transient high voltage and thermal cycling. A damaged ICCU may not be able to charge the 12-volt battery which can discharge gradually while driving with a reduction of motive power. The vehicle could eventually experience a complete loss of motive power thereby increasing the risk of a crash. On July 13, 2023, Kia conducted a service campaign to inspect the ICCU and install an improved over-current detection software logic in certain 2022-2023 EV6 vehicles. On March 15, 2024, Kia filed recall 24V-200 for 48,232 MY 2022-2024 Kia EV6 vehicles. The recall remedy provides an inspection of the ICCU, and if necessary, a replacement of the ICCU and the associated fuse. The ICCU software reduces the risk of overcurrent and implements voltage peak reduction at the end of EV battery charging. The recall also includes a software update that revises the electric water pump operational threshold to reduce thermal loading during charging and driving. In view of the recall action being taken by Kia, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. Based on the petitioner's withdrawal, DP22-005 is closed. Closure of this DP does not represent a determination by NHTSA regarding the subject matter of the petition.
