2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee

While driving on the interstate at highway speeds, the vehicle suffered a sudden and complete loss of motive power without warning, causing the engine to stall. The vehicle became a severe safety hazard in active traffic as power steering and power braking assists were greatly reduced, nearly causing a high-speed rear-end collision before I could safely coast to the shoulder.Upon investigation, the vehicle completely ran out of gasoline, despite the dashboard fuel gauge explicitly indicating at least a 1/4 tank of fuel remaining.This is the second time this exact failure has occurred. The first instance happened during the vehicle's factory warranty period. At that time, the dealership misdiagnosed the issue and replaced the auxiliary battery, failing to address the underlying fuel delivery defect.The vehicle currently has 37,950 miles. The defect appears to be a failure of the auxiliary fuel sending unit/siphon pump inside the saddle-style fuel tank layout. This failure prevents fuel from transferring to the main pump, starving the engine of fuel while falsely reporting to the driver that gas is still available. This is a severe manufacturing defect that actively misleads the operator and causes unexpected stalling at highway speeds.

The internal fuel pump/fuel pump circuit on my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee (VIN: [XXX] ) failed prematurely, resulting in a sudden and severe 'no-crank' safety hazard. The fuel pump failure triggered a massive electrical current draw that shorted out the Powertrain/Engine Control Module communications and locked out the starter motor entirely. This electrical failure leaves the vehicle completely stranded, inoperable, and creates a significant risk of stalling in active traffic without power steering or propulsion. On September 15–16, 2025, my vehicle was serviced at AutoNation CDJR North Columbus, where the technician documented: “Oil filter housing failed internally.” •No repair, replacement, or warning was provided to me about the risk of catastrophic engine failure. •I was not presented a signed repair decline form. •Internal failure was documented but not escalated. On February 13, 2026, the engine failed completely, rendering the vehicle inoperable. The dealership quoted ~$13,094.83 for engine replacement but did not authorize repair. During this time, oil and coolant leaks were observed, indicating continued mechanical risk and potential safety hazards.

Frequently, my vehicle would not start. It would crank for a lengthy period of time but the engine would not turn over to start. Internet searches show that this is a widespread, known problem with Chrysler vehicles, yet only a small number of recalls have been issued. Unfortunately, my vehicle does not fall under the recall for unknown reasons. I have been advised that the fuel pump and auxiliary fuel pump need to be replaced, which is a costly repair. A fuel pump should not fail on a vehicle with under 50,000 miles on it.

My 2020 Jeep will regularly turnover but not start after pushing the start button. As of now, the vehicle will start normal after pushing the start button a second time. Research has shown many people have had and are still having this exact issue. It would seem that most of the ones with this problem have fixed the issue by having both fuel pumps replaced which is very expensive and in my opinion highly unreasonable being it is a very common issue for Jeep. Upon further research it would seem Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Durangos which share the mechanical characteristics have been having this exact issue for at least 10 years now. I feel it is more than fair that the manufacturer should issue a recall and fix the defect they have obviously known about for quite some time now.

Driving down the interstate at 75mph, the vehicle all of a sudden lost the ability to accelerate and felt like it shifted into neutral. We were able to pull over to the side of the road safely and as we were getting out of the vehicle, we noticed flames shooting out from under the engine. My wife and I made it out safely and as we got about 100 yards away and looked back toward the vehicle, the entire front part of the vehicle was engulfed in flames. We sat along the side of the interstate and watched the vehicle burn for 20-25 minutes. We just had the vehicle in for service 6 days prior to get a new battery, a new aux battery, an advanced diagnostic, brake fluid exchange, and a fuel system service. The evening we picked up the vehicle from service, we got an email with a powertrain alert indicator. We then checked the app on the phone and everything in the powertrain section of the vehicle health report was green. I have several videos of the vehicle burning but it doesn't look like I can upload a video file.

My Jeep Cherokee has lost power twice. Once while idling at a red light and once while going 70 MPH on the Interstate. The gas pedal went to the floor without resistance and would not give any fuel to the engine. The lights were still on so I didn't lose power completely, but the engine was not responding. The recent recal 25V011000 sounds like what happened to my car, but the 2020 model is not included in the recall. I have taken it to the dealership, but they could not find anything wrong with it.
