WITHIN THE INITIAL 12K MILES OF OWNING THIS JX35, WE'VE EXPERIENCED A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE JX35 PASSENGER AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT. MY WIFE IS APPROX. 130 LBS. AND THE LIGHT COMES ON NUMEROUS TIMES INDICATING THAT THE AIRBAG WILL NOT FUNCTION DURING AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS A SERIOUS AND SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE WHICH NISSAN HAS BEEN UNABLE TO FIX. IT'S BEEN RECALLED TWICE AND HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP OVER FIVE (5) TIMES FOR THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM. IT IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP AND WE'VE TOLD THEM TO BUY BACK THE CAR. WE HAVE FILED A FORMAL COMPLIANT WITH NISSAN CUSTOMER AFFAIRS, COMPLAINT # 15766361, AND WILL AWAIT THEIR COMMENTS. IF THAT FAILS, WE WILL ENACT THE TEXAS LEMON LAW TO HAVE THE CAR RETURNED. JUST TODAY, THE SERVICE DIRECTOR SAID THEY WERE ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE WHEN ONE OF THEIR FEMALE SERVICE TECHNICIANS RODE IN THE PASSENGER FRONT SEAT, SITTING SIDEWAYS ON 1/2 OF THE SEAT. THEN, THEY WENT ON TO SAY THE LIGHT DID IN FACT COME ON, CAME TO A RED LIGHT, WAITED SEVEN SECONDS AND THE LIGHT WENT OFF. THEY SAID IF THIS HAPPENS, YOU SHOULD COME TO A COMPLETE STOP SO THAT IT RECALIBRATES ITSELF. I ASKED IF THEY THOUGHT THIS WAS NORMAL. THEY SAID, "YES". I THEN ASKED, IF THE LIGHT IS ON, AND SOMEONE HITS THE FRONT END OF OUR CAR AND MY OCCUPANT SUFFERS DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY, DO I THEN GET MY "SEVEN SECONDS" BACK BEFORE THE CRASH TO RESET THE SEAT? COMPLETE AND UTTER NONSENSE. THESE DEALERS KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THIS CAR. THEY ARE PUTTING ALL OF US AT RISK WHO USE THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THEY HAD THE AUDACITY TO ACCUSE MY WIFE OF NOT SITTING PROPERLY IN THE SEAT. HOW SEXIST! NO OTHER VEHICLE WE'VE OWNED OR RENTED HAS EVER DEMONSTRATED THIS ISSUE. THIS CAR IS A LEMON AND NISSAN MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. NHTSA TESTS THE CAR WITH AIRBAGS, OUR CAR DOESN'T HAVE THAT WORKS CORRECTLY AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX IT. *TR

THE WARNING LIGHT THAT INDICATES THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS DEACTIVATED ILLUMINATES WHILE THE PASSENGER SEAT IS OCCUPIED BY AN ADULT. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. THE LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE, SO I RETURNED THE CAR TO THE DEALER IN AUGUST OF 2014 AND WAS TOLD AFTER 5 DAYS THAT THEY TESTED THE SYSTEM AND CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. I EVEN PRESENTED THE SERVICE MANAGER A VIDEO THAT MY WIFE TOOK ON A RECENT TRIP OF THE LIGHT CLEARLY ILLUMINATED WHILE SHE SAT IN THE SEAT. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT EVEN THOUGH THE LIGHT ILLUMINATES, THE AIRBAG IS STILL ACTIVATED IN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. THIS IS RIDICULOUS, HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW IF THE VEHICLE IS SAFE TO CARRY PASSENGERS? I HAVE NEVER BEEN NOTIFIED BY INFINITI THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. I ONLY FOUND THE RECALL AFTER SEARCHING ON THE INTERNET. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. I PLAN TO ESCALATE THIS SITUATION WITH INFINITI. THERE IS A CLEAR PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN OF THIS VEHICLE THAT IS PUTTING THE OWNER'S PASSENGERS AT RISK. PLEASE FORCE INFINITI TO ADDRESS THIS ONGOING DEFECT. *TR

VEHICLE HAS HAD 2 AIR BAG RECALLS, BOTH RECALL REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED AT DEALERSHIP. THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT CONTINUES TO INTERMITTENTLY TURN ON INDICATING THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IS OFF WHILE AN ADULT PASSENGER OF 140-180+ LBS IS OCCUPYING THE SEAT. THE CAR WAS TAKEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO REPAIR, AFTER 4 DAYS THEY ADVISED ME THEY WERE ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM BUT THEY DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT AND WOULD CONTACT THE ENGINEERS TO MAKE REPAIR. AFTER 8 DAYS IN THE SHOP I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH INFINITI CONSUMER AFFAIRS, THEY OPENED A CASE AND CONTACTED ME ON DAY 9. THE DEALERSHIP FINALLY CALLED BACK ON DAY 9 AND STATED THE SERVICE MANAGER DAN WOULD BE TAKING CARE OF THE CAR AND WOULD PROVIDE BETTER COMMUNICATION AND GET THE CAR FIXED. NO CALL FOR 5 MORE DAYS FROM THE DEALERSHIP REGARDING THE STATUS. REGIONAL SPECIALIST FROM CONSUMER AFFAIRS CALLED BACK (DAY 14) AND STATED DEALERSHIP IS NOW SAYING THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE AND THE SERVICE TECH PREVIOUSLY "MIS-SPOKE". I HAVE ESCALATED MY COMPLAINT AT INFINITI CORPORATE. THE DEALERSHIP STILL HAS NOT CALLED (DAY 14) TO TELL ME WHAT IS GOING ON WITH MY CAR. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE AS YOU CANNOT BE SURE IF THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WILL DEPLOY UPON COLLISION. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM THE MARKET UNTIL THESE MAJOR SAFETY ISSUES ARE CORRECTED. *JS

16V244000 · Air Bags:sensor:occupant Classification

Apr 26, 2016

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.

Remedy: Nissan will notify their owners. Chevrolet City Express owners will be notified by General Motors. Dealers will reprogram the Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) and OCS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue, and Sentra vehicles, and replace the OCS ECU in LEAF, NV200, NV200 Taxi, Pathfinder, Infiniti Q50, JX35, and QX60 and Chevrolet City Express vehicles, free of charge. Interim notices were sent to owners on May 31, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669, Infiniti customer service at 1-888-833-3216 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Altima and Pathfinder vehicles, 2013-2014 Nissan Sentra vehicles, 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles, 2014-2015 Infiniti QX60 vehicles and 2014 Infiniti QX60 Hybrid vehicles. The affected vehicles received an incorrect occupant classification system (OCS) control unit during a repair. These OCS control units may incorrectly classify the front passenger seat as empty, when it is occupied by an adult.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the OCS does not detect an adult occupant in the passenger seat, the passenger air bag would be deactivated. Failure of the passenger airbag to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of injury to the passenger.

Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will update the OCS software, free of charge. The recall began on November 30, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

The secondary latch may remain in the open position when the hood is closed.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the primary hood latch is released and the secondary latch fails during operation of the vehicle, it could cause the hood to open during vehicle operation impairing the driver's vision, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Aug 14, 2012

Nissan is recalling certain model year 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles manufactured from February 15, 2012, through June 22, 2012. As a result, the fuel level float may be prevented from dropping as the fuel is consumed and the fuel guage may read a fuel level higher than actually exists.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the fuel guage does not accurately show when the tank is becoming empty, the vehicle may run out of gas unexpectedly, stalling, and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and re-route the fuel transfer tube and install a new O-ring, free of charge. The recall began on September 10, 2012. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

In April 2014, Nissan North America launched Safety Recall 14V-138 to address problems with the Occupant Classification System (OCS) algorithm in the following vehicles: model year (MY) 2013-2014 Nissan Altima, Pathfinder, Sentra and LEAF; MY 2013 Infiniti JX35; MY 2014 Infiniti QX60 and Q50; and MY 2013 Nissan NV 200/Taxi vehicles.According to Nissan, the OCS may misclassify adult front passenger occupants and turn off the passenger's frontal air bag for an adult occupant of sufficient weight.In March 2015, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this Recall Query after the agency received approximately 124 complaints alleging problems with the OCS after the recall repairs and/or other OCS related repairs were made by Nissan/Infiniti dealers.The majority of the complaints alleged the passenger air bag status light stays on (i.e., indicating passenger air bag is turned off) for adult front passengers of sufficient weight.Many of the complaints stated the dealers have made multiple repairs but the problem still persists.In its June 2015 response to ODI's information request under the Recall Query, Nissan provided approximately 1,121 complaints and field reports on the recalled vehicles.These reports alleged OCS issues similar to the NHTSA reports described above.At this time, NHTSA has received a total of approximately 208 complaints (note: total of 1,271 reports shown in the table above eliminates 58 duplicative reports received by ODI and manufacturer).This Recall Query has been upgraded to an Engineering Analysis (EA15-004) to conduct a comparative assessment and further evaluate the effectiveness of the recall remedy which will include a thorough review of the countermeasures taken by Nissan and its suppliers.The ODI reports cited above can be reviewed online at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification numbers:10583283 10585264 10585349 10585379 10592434 10593399 10593501 10594329 10594614 10594755 10595161 10595645 10595946 10596128 10596459 10596952 10597037 10597452 10597518 10597719 10598537 10598869 10604755 10604834 10605188 10605251 10606565 10606828 10607038 10609649 10610519 10610991 10614467 10614609 10614745 10616905 10617008 10617507 10617903 10618099 10618202 10619059 10619563 10620719 10621840 10622214 10625808 10625981 10625998 10626006 10626023 10626335 10626458 10626732 10628355 10629382 10629460 10629606 10630441 10630502 10630990 10632251 10632588 10632934 10632997 10633714 10633810 10637994 10638591 10639040 10639147 10639324 10639473 10643046 10643843 10644203 10644333 10644341 10644690 10644891 10644985 10648834 10648997 10649414 10649772 10649874 10651360 10651564 10651924 10651982 10652024 10658665 10658844 10659484 10660294 10661195 10661358 10661541 10661795 10661855 10662901 10663033 10663338 10663860 10663978 10668054 10668768 10670538 10672807 10673088 10676471 10678478 10678997 10679512 10680748 10680769 10680975 10681656 10682235 10682902 10682993 10683391 10683689 10689672 10689809 10689981 10691626 10692137 10692558 10692625 10693168 10695312 10700614 10700960 10701008 10701011 10701014 10701018 10701023 10701027 10701031 10701032 10701035 10701045 10701055 10701064 10701074 10701146 10701196 10701228 10701237 10701254 10701301 10701306 10701326 10701367 10701370 10701384 10701415 10701453 10701526 10701558 10701656 10701670 10701946 10702003 10702667 10702798 10703032 10703657 10703766 10703813 10704196 10704988 10705530 10705919 10706621 10712543 10712568 10712575 10713335 10714316 10714330 10714536 10714980 10715132 10715945 10717336 10720918 10720971 10721331 10721746 10723424 10724568 10731167 10731868 10732012 10732065

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) analyzed complaint data provided by Nissan as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 2 unique reports alleging inappropriate autonomous brake activation while driving.During PE12-022, Nissan identified a condition in model year (MY) 2013 Infiniti JX 35 that may result in inappropriate autonomous activation of emergency breaking by the Intelligent Brake Assist (IBA). According to Nissan, unique road environment anomalies can affect proper IBA operation and may cause IBA activation where it is not needed.ODI investigators were able to replicate the anomaly and found IBA interventions are extremely brief and may interrupt travelling speeds but do not stop the vehicle. Nissan developed a software countermeasure to address the condition and has initiated a customer satisfaction campaign to reprogram the Radar and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) control units on all affected vehicles. The bulletin was sent to dealers on August 10, 2012 and the owner letter mailing began on September 4, 2012. See the investigative file for copies of Nissan's bulletin and owner letter. The condition represents a low risk to motor vehicle safety and is adequately addressed by Nissan's service campaign. This preliminary evaluation is closed. The ODI reports cited above can be viewed at www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification numbers (ODI Nos.): 10465524, 10466330
