On January 17, 2026, I was driving my Hyundai Ioniq 5, when it began to decelerate and lose power while I was pressing the accelerator pedal. The deceleration progressed. A small flashing battery icon appeared on the upper display. This icon had never been on the display before. Fortunately, I was traveling downhill and able to safely pull the car over to a stop. I turned the car off. I restarted the car with the same issue recurring. I turned the car off and called the dealer and scheduled an appointment. After about 5 minutes I restarted the car and was able to safely drive home without further incident. The dealer checked the car out and determined that nothing is wrong with it. The dealer was unable to replicate the problem. I have no confidence in continuing to drive the car safely as a loss of power could cause a serious accident. I contacted Hyundai USA customer service and a case was opened. They closed the case explaining that since the dealer found nothing wrong there is nothing they could do. Thank you.

Sudden ICCU failure in 2024 Ioniq 5 electric vehicle . A warning message to check electrical system appeared suddenly on driver dash screen. Tried to drive vehicle off street to a safe place to park. Vehicle shuttered and shook and would only move under 5mph on busy shopping & hospital area of 45 MPH road, placing me and my [XXX] child in danger of being hit by another fast moving car. Vehicle was towed to Bob King Hyundai in Winston Salem. They diagnosed the problem as a failed ICCU. Ongoing and long term problem with Hyundai. Service department has had my car for 11 days so far. They update me frequently. The part has been ordered but there is not ETA. Also, there is no guarantee that the new part will not fail as well. This puts my family at risk every time we drive the car, especially on busy roads and interstates. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My car gave me a "Check electrical vehicle system" message, which I have seen online may mean a problem with the ICCU. As the dealership is close - about five miles from my home, on residential roads - I decided to drive there. The car lost power very quickly and then died in the road shortly after leaving my driveway. Thankfully I wasn't on a busy street or an intersection and was able to safely get it to the side of the road, but if it had died while driving at a higher speed it would have been very dangerous.

PE23011 · Loss Of Motive Power

Opened Jun 8, 2023 · Closed Apr 17, 2024

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Electrical SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V Battery; Electrical System:propulsion System:dc/dc Converter

On June 8, 2023, the Office of Defect Investigation (ODI) opened PE23011 to investigate allegations of loss of motor power on model year (MY) 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles. Some consumers reported loss of motor power immediately after a warning lamp illumination or reduction of motive power while the vehicle was in motion. This investigation found that the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) may be subject to various conditions such as overcurrent, overvoltage induced at the end of charging, and certain thermal loading during operation that can damage its internal components and open the ICCU fuse, resulting in an inability to charge the 12-volt battery. The vehicle could eventually lose all motive power, increasing the risk of a crash. In July 2023, Hyundai issued a service campaign to address certain MY 2022-2023 Ioniq 5 and MY 2023 Ioniq 6 vehicles that may have low 12V auxiliary battery charging occurrences due to an ICCU fault and may set the DTC P1A9096 “DC/DC Converter Input Voltage Sensor Fault”. On March 15, 2024, Hyundai filed Safety Recall 24V-204 for 98,878 MY 2022-2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles and MY 2023-2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6, Genesis GV60, Genesis GV70 “Electrified” and Genesis G80 “Electrified” vehicles. The recall remedy provides an inspection, and if necessary, a replacement of the ICCU and the associated fuse. The ICCU software reduces the risk of overcurrent and implements voltage peak reduction at the end of EV battery charging. The recall also includes a software update that revises the electric water pump operational threshold to reduce thermal loading during charging and driving. In view of the recall action being taken by Hyundai, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
