On December 22, 2024, I went out at 8 AM to have breakfast with my dad. On the way back, I noticed my car starting to slow down, and the "turtle mode" activated. Normally, this mode only occurs when the battery level is under 1%, but my battery was at 75%. As I tried to park in a safe location, the car suddenly lost power and displayed a warning instructing me to stop due to an electrical problem and to contact service. I was able to safely stop at a small shopping center plaza and called Hyundai's towing service. When the towing company arrived, they found they couldn’t turn the car on and had to use a wheel-lift tow method. Unfortunately, I had to wait nine hours for the car to be towed. The car was dropped off at the dealership on December 22, 2024, but it wasn’t checked until December 31. By the end of the first week or early in the second week of January, I was informed that the replacement ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) had arrived. However, due to the dealership's schedule, they said they wouldn’t begin the installation until the following Tuesday, with hopes of completing the work by the end of that week. This incident was especially frustrating because I had already experienced an ICCU failure in January 2023, just nine months after purchasing the vehicle. At that time, no one could explain why the ICCU component had failed, and now I’m facing the same issue again.

The vehicle has no power whatsoever. Upon approaching the vehicle, it did not unlock. I used the physical key to open the drivers door. I then tried starting the vehicle only to have the gauge and center display flashing on and off with a red warning That the 12v was dead, to pull over and top immediately then the displays turned off. There are no lights or power to the vehicle no whatsoever. It cannot turn on any of the interior lights or even power door locks. This means only the front doors can be opened or locked and the vehicle will obviously not move. The 12v battery system has been a continuing issue with the vehicle. It has been repaired and the subject of several recalls during my short ownership and is still a problem. Due to a blizzard, I have been unable to have the vehicle taken to the dealership and have been without transportation for 3 days already with no clear resolution from Hyundai.

The ICCU on my Ioniq 5 failed without any warning from the car or mobile app. All recalls were performed on the vehicle prior to it failing. I was unable to charge the vehicle on level 1 or level 2 charging. The dealership replaced both the ICCU and fuse on the vehicle.

12 V battery died after being plugged in to charge overnight. The 12V battery was replaced in May 2024 due to a similar issue. It seems that the ICCU recalls and software updates have not been fixing the problem.

Driving on the highway the car entered limp mode allowing only 30 mph. Messages "stop vehicle and check power supply" with 12V battery indicator. Classic ICCU failure.

Seats

Passenger side rear seat (40% side) is missing all mounting bolts required to secure seat to vehicle. I purchased the vehicle as a preowned unit and noticed squeaking and a rattle coming from the rear seats. Upon inspection, I discovered that the seat is only resting on the floor and with little effort the seat can be dislodged.

Unknowingly my cars ICCU failed. I went to charge my car on December 23. The EVSE then immediately tripped the breaker. The EVSE gave an error code of a stuck relay fault and made the EVSE unusable. This happened to 2 different Juicebox chargers and both are not permanently disabled and need to be replaced.

Hyundai has absolutely dropped the ball on this Ioniq 5's ICCU and 12V battery issue. After numerous recalls to fix a hardware problem through a series of software fixes that don't work and refusal to give a loaner for loss of use, I would like to pursue a buyback option for this vehicle. On Tuesday, [XXX], I went to Napleton Valley Hyundai in Aurora, IL to complete RECALL CAMPAIGN #272 NHTSA RECALL # 24V868000. After the recall, my 12V battery went dead on Wednesday, [XXX] and had to be towed to dealership. Their only solution was yet another software update and then charge the 12V and said it was ready for pickup on Thursday, December 5. I told them then to also do a wheel alignment and they said during that process, the 12V battery went down again. They then charged it back up and gave it back to me and said it was good. I encouraged them to pursue a better solution but they had no interest. So, it was picked up on Friday, [XXX]. On Saturday [XXX], the 12V battery went dead again and will have to be towed back to the dealership. Over the phone, my service advisor said it would have to be charged and released. If this issue then happens again, then a replacement might be considered. Calls to Hyundai North America headquarters have not yielded any results and they claim they need 3 business days to assign my case while I have no working car. PE24028 · Electrical Arcing And Thermal Events, Potentially Leading To Fires, While Utilizing Enel X Way Usa, Llc's Juicebox Residential Charger.

Opened Oct 3, 2024 · Closed Jun 5, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Equipment:electrical

On October 3, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened PE24028 to investigate alleged failures of Enel X Way's JuiceBox Level 2 residential EV chargers. The allegations were described as thermal incidents and electrical malfunctions, which could trip the circuit breakers in Juicebox owners’ homes and disrupt electric vehicle charge cycles. On October 2, 2024, Enel X Way posted on its website that Enel X Way North America would cease operations in the United States and Canada on October 11, 2024. The closure would potentially impact the charging app and supporting software. ODI sent Enel X Way an Information Request (IR) letter on October 21, 2024. Enel X Way provided an incomplete response to the IR on December 9, 2024. Enel X Way later provided a complete response to the IR on January 24, 2025. ODI reviewed Enel X Way’s IR submissions to determine whether further action is required. Based on ODI’s analysis, there was no clear trend in the cause of the failures described in customer complaints and warranty reports. Additionally, there have been no recent reports alleging safety issues. The available information does not warrant further action at this time. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The Agency will continue to monitor for any safety trends and reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in this Closing Resume, go to NHTSA.gov.

PE23011 · Loss Of Motive Power

Opened Jun 8, 2023 · Closed Apr 17, 2024

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Electrical SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V Battery; Electrical System:propulsion System:dc/dc Converter

On June 8, 2023, the Office of Defect Investigation (ODI) opened PE23011 to investigate allegations of loss of motor power on model year (MY) 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles. Some consumers reported loss of motor power immediately after a warning lamp illumination or reduction of motive power while the vehicle was in motion. This investigation found that the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) may be subject to various conditions such as overcurrent, overvoltage induced at the end of charging, and certain thermal loading during operation that can damage its internal components and open the ICCU fuse, resulting in an inability to charge the 12-volt battery. The vehicle could eventually lose all motive power, increasing the risk of a crash. In July 2023, Hyundai issued a service campaign to address certain MY 2022-2023 Ioniq 5 and MY 2023 Ioniq 6 vehicles that may have low 12V auxiliary battery charging occurrences due to an ICCU fault and may set the DTC P1A9096 “DC/DC Converter Input Voltage Sensor Fault”. On March 15, 2024, Hyundai filed Safety Recall 24V-204 for 98,878 MY 2022-2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles and MY 2023-2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6, Genesis GV60, Genesis GV70 “Electrified” and Genesis G80 “Electrified” vehicles. The recall remedy provides an inspection, and if necessary, a replacement of the ICCU and the associated fuse. The ICCU software reduces the risk of overcurrent and implements voltage peak reduction at the end of EV battery charging. The recall also includes a software update that revises the electric water pump operational threshold to reduce thermal loading during charging and driving. In view of the recall action being taken by Hyundai, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
