686 reportsMy rear windshield shattered out of nowhere. Not driving, car wasn’t turned on yet, temperature outside was about 60 degrees so wasn’t too cold or too hot. No impact.
The contact owns a 2023 Honda HR-V. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the rear windshield shattered without impact. The dealer was not contacted. A police report was filed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 10,000.
Back windshield randomly exploded, nothing was thrown at the vehicle, car was parked and not running when the incident happened. Glass appears to be blown out from the inside.

I got in my car this morning and and noticed immediately the rear windshield look like there was ice / frozen over since there was condensation on my other windows. I started my car and turned on the defroster button for my front and rear windshield. 10 minutes into driving, I heard a pop sound and noticed a hole in the rear windshield wiper. I thought it was a bag of chips in my trunk so I continued to driving to my destination, not really thinking much about it. At this time both the defrosters were turned off. When I got to my destination I noticed the hole/ opening in the rear windshield got bigger and upon inspection, 35% of my window fell into my trunk and shattered.
Driving about 20 mph. Rear windshield defrost was on and out of nowhere the rear windshield shattered. Very scary.

On August 1 at approximately 6:30 am I was traveling on Dorchester Rd. in Summerville, SC when I suddenly heard a loud POP noise and saw the hole in my rear windshield and that it had shattered. On August 1 at approximately 6:30 am I was traveling on Dorchester Rd. in Summerville, SC when I suddenly heard a loud POP noise and saw the hole in my rear windshield and that it had shattered. There was one person traveling behind me and no one in front so there was no debris from either cars. When I pulled over I called the police and they quickly responded and were concerned as I was, thinking I had been shot at. Upon further investigating, we learned that this is a "known" 2023 Honda HRV problem, after researching NHTS website. I contacted a local dealership but could not get any response other than there was no recall for the vehicle. Fortunately I was able to work with my insurance company to get it replaced, but not until a week later! I did use my rear defrost before leaving as there was some condensation on my rear window. This was a very scary situation and could have caused me to wreck or had I had a passenger in the back, they could have been injured. Very disappointed to read the number of reported incidents but no action is being taken. Having worked at Honda R&D for 32 years this is just not the Honda response one would expect.

My rear windshield basically exploded, for lack of a better word, last night! It was very scary and confusing. I was alone on the road. There were no cars around me. The glass immediately started to shattered. You could hear the crackling and a hole formed on the left hand side (drivers side) first. The entire windshield panel was destroyed. The black trimming included, that goes right up against the car. I need you to understand how terrifying this was! My 8 year old was shaking and crying in the back seat especially with the sound of the crackling. Before the hole formed it sounded like it was under intense pressure and was going to pop. I was shaking because I thought maybe someone hit my car with something they threw or god forbid something worse. Understand, I was driving with my son and it was 12:30am, so I pulled over to look around and was nervous someone was there and was going to do something. It wasn’t until I got home and really looked at the windshield that it made sense that I wasn’t hit by anything. I then googled to see if this was a problem and sure enough it is! My brother in law met me at my home to help remove the glass and cover the opening. We had to remove it, it was slowly crumbling everywhere.
I was sitting in a fast food drive through and my rear window just shattered for no reason. Nothing hit the window, to make it shatter.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Acura Integra, Civic Type R, CR-V Hybrid, CR-V, HR-V, 2022-2025 Civic, Civic Hatchback, 2024-2025 Acura Integra Type S, 2025 CR-V Fuel Cell EV, Civic Hybrid, and Civic Hatchback Hybrid vehicles. The steering gearbox assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can cause excessive internal friction and lead to difficulty steering the vehicle.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Difficulty steering can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the worm gear spring and redistribute or add grease as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 18, 2024. Owners may contact Honda Customer Service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are SJS, MJU, QJT and VJV.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013-2023 Honda Accord, Civic Coupe, Civic Sedan, Civic Hatchback, Civic Type R, CR-V, HR-V, Ridgeline, Odyssey, Acura ILX, MDX, MDX Hybrid, RDX, RLX, TLX, 2019-2022 Honda Insight, Passport, 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid, 2018-2019 Honda Clarity PHEV, Fit, and 2015-2020 Honda Accord Hybrid, Pilot, Acura NSX vehicles. The fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Fuel pump failure can cause an engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the fuel pump module, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed September 6, 2024. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are KGC and KGD. This recall is an expansion of NHTSA recall numbers 21V-215 and 20V-314.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Accord and HR-V vehicles. The front seat belt pretensioners may be missing the rivet that secures the quick connector and wire plate. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 208, "Occupant Crash Protection," 209, "Seat Belt Assembles," and 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A seat belt pretensioner missing a rivet will not properly restrain the occupant, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the seat belt pretensioner assemblies as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 8, 2024. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are MG7 and NG5.

On April 4, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ24006 to investigate American Honda Motor Co.’s (Honda’s) proposed remedy for recall 23V-782 as well as scope of the vehicles involved. Honda issued recall 23V-782 on November 21, 2023, which concerns certain model year (MY) 2023-2024 Honda Accord, Honda Accord Hybrid, and Honda HR-V vehicles. Recall 23V-782 states that the driver and front passenger seat belt pretensioner assemblies may have been manufactured without a rivet that secures the pretensioner quick connector and wire plate. Recall documentation states that seat belt pretensioner assemblies that are missing the rivet will not properly restrain the occupant in the event of a collision, increasing the risk of injury.Subject defective seat belt assemblies are installed as original equipment for both the driver and front passenger positions for the HR-V, but only for the driver position for the Accord and Accord Hybrid. The recall remedy for 23V-782 instructs the technician to inspect both front seat belt pretensioner assemblies and, if necessary, replace them. The inspection procedure requires the technician to utilize a pull force gauge to determine whether the subject component is missing the subject rivet and requires replacement. Parts requiring replacement are determined by whether the pretensioner quick connector separates from the pretensioner assembly while the technician is pulling on the seat belt. If no separation occurs, then the part is determined to be not defective and not require replacement. There have been no reports alleging a failure of seat belt pretensioner assemblies after the inspect and replace remedy for recall 23V-782 was performed. Additionally, no comparable failures have been observed in field data for similar vehicles outside of the scope of the recall. As of the 4th quarter of 2024, the recall completion rate is at approximately 84% of the total recalled population. In view of the lack of failures after the remedy for recall 23V-782 was performed, and the lack of failures in similar vehicles outside of the scope of the recall, ODI is closing this Recall Query (RQ). The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.
