The contact owns a 2024 Harley Davidson FLTRXSTSE Road Glide ST Motorcycle. The contact stated while riding 70 MPH, the motorcycle lost motive power. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact owns a 2024 Harley Davidson FLTRXSTSE Road Glide ST Motorcycle. The contact stated while riding 70 MPH, the motorcycle lost motive power. There was no warning light illuminated. The motorcycle was unable to restart, and the contact disconnected and reconnected the fuse box; however, there was a ticking sound upon restart. The contact was able to ride to the residence and had the motorcycle towed the next day to the dealer. The dealer was unable to determine a cause for the failure and could not duplicate the failure. The dealer towed the motorcycle back to the residence. The contact stated that while riding a week later the failure reoccurred and the motorcycle was towed back to the dealer. The contact stated that the motorcycle was connected to a diagnostic machine and blew the electrical system. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was opened. The contact was awaiting information on the possible repair from the dealer and the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 140.

Harley-Davidson Motor Company (Harley-Davidson) is recalling certain 2024 FLHX, FLHXSE, FLTRX, FLTRXSE, and FLTRXSTSE motorcycles. The voltage regulator output wire may rub on the front corner of the crankcase, exposing the wire and causing an electrical short circuit. A short can result in a loss of electrical power and drive power.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: The unexpected loss of drive power and the loss of electrical power while in motion increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and as necessary, repair the voltage regulator output wire harness, and install a secondary retention strap, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 23, 2024. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-800-258-2464. Harley-Davidson's number for this recall is 0186.
