CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 25MPH FROM WET CONCRETE TO DRY ASPHALT. AN ANIMAL RAN OUT IN FRONT OF VEHICLE. BRAKES WERE HIT SUDDENLY, VEHICLE JERKED AND BRAKES FAILED. WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH, STARTED TO BRAKE, ONE SET OF THE WHEELS WAS ON GRASS AND THE OTHER SET WAS ON THE PAVEMENT, BRAKES DIDN'T BRAKE AT ALL. CONSUMER HAD TO GET BOTH WHEELS BACK ON THE PAVEMENT IN ORDER TO STOP. *AK
I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 50 MPH ON A PAVED ROAD AND NEEDED TO STOP FAST. I HIT THE BRAKES AND BEGAN STOPPING FINE. THEN AS I BEGAN STEERING THE CAR OFF THE PAVEMENT AND THE TWO RIGHT WHEELS CAME ONTO THE GRASS ROADSIDE, THE BRAKES TOTALLY RELEASED. THEY DID NOT TAKE HOLD AGAIN UNTIL THE RIGHT WHEELS WERE BACK ON THE PAVEMENT. *AK

BOTH THE SUPPLEMENTAL INFLATABLE RESTRAINT (SIR) CAUTION LABEL AND AN ENGINE START LABEL WERE INSTALLED ON THE SAME SIDE OF THE DRIVER'S SUN VISOR. THIS DOES NOT COMPLY WITH FMVSS NO. 208, "OCCUPANT CRASH PROTECTION."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: CONSEQUENCE OF NON-COMPLIANCE: OPERATORS COULD FAIL TO NOTICE AND HEED THE WARNING LABELS.
Remedy: A NEW LABEL, WITH INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS, WILL BE SENT DIRECTLY TO OWNERS. OWNERS WILL INSTALL THE LABEL OR CAN HAVE THEIR DEALER INSTALL THE LABEL FOR THEM.
