THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY IS DEFECTIVE. THE CAR LOSES POWER AND NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN I STEP ON THE GAS, BUT THE ENGINE DOES NOT TURN OFF. I HAVE PULLED OVER AND THE CAR SHAKES PRETTY VIOLENTLY. ONCE I TURN IT OFF AND BACK ON EVERYTHING SEEMS FINE FOR A WHILE BUT EVENTUALLY DOES IT AGAIN. GOT THE CODE P2111. *TR

WHILE DRIVING MY 2011 FORD MUSTANG DOWN THE ROAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND LOST ALL POWER, THE ENGINE NEVER DIED BUT WOULD ONLY IDLE VERY ROUGH. I TOOK IT TO HAVE THE CODE READ OUT, IT SHOWED A CODE P2111 THROTTLE BODY ACTUATOR WIDE OPEN. IT HAS DONE THE SAME THING 2 TIMES TODAY. ONCE YOU PULL OVER AND CUT THE ENGINE OFF THEN RESTART IT WILL RUN FINE, BUT NOT FOR LONG BEFORE DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN. I GOT ONLINE TO SEE WHAT THE CODE P2111 MEANS, TO MY SURPRISE THIS SEEMS TO BE A BIG PROBLEM ON MUSTANGS, ESCAPES, AND FUSIONS. FORD HAS ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON CERTAIN THROTTLE BODIES.THIS COULD POTENTIALLY BE A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM LOOSING POWER WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGH WAY. *TR

MY WIFE ,WHO IS THREE MONTHS PREGNANT, WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND VEHICLE LOST POWER AND WENT INTO WHAT I AM HEARING IS "LIMP MODE". THE CAR LOSSES POWER , NEVER SHUTS OFF, IT REDUCES THE RPMS TO ABOUT 600 AND SPEED TO ABOUT 10 TO 12 MPH. WHEN THIS HAPPENED TO HER SHE JUST BARELY GOT OFF THE ROAD BEFORE AN 18 WHEELER HIT HER FROM BEHIND. WHEN I ARRIVED ON SCENE I CUT THE VEHICLE OFF FOR ABOUT 10 SEC. THEN STARTED IT BACK UP AND IT RAN FINE. THIS HAPPENED TWICE MORE BEFORE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I SCANNED THE CAR TROUBLE CODE P2111 DISPLAYED SAYING FAILED THROTTLE BODY. I RESET THE COMPUTER WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE ABOUT $170.00 ANDTHERE WAS ABOUT A 50% CHANCE THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM SO I KEPT MY MONEY AND LEFT. DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET I HAVE FOUND MANY DIFFERENT FORUMS WHERE PEOPLE WITH MUSTANGS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR ETB ( ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY) ON THEIR VEHICLE BUT FORD SAYS THERE IS NO ISSUE. WHILE DOING MY RESEARCH I FOUND WHERE FORD ISSUED A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM NO. 13N03 ON FUSIONS, ESCAPES, AND MILIANS FOR A DEFECTIVE EBT BUT THE MUSTANG IS NOT COVERED OR ACKNOWLEDGED EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM DESCRIBED IS THE SAME EXACT ISSUE THAT IM HAVING. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO US ABOUT 10 DIFFERENT TIMES SINCE THE FIRST INSTANCE. IT'S A KNOWN ISSUE AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED AND A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. PLEASE HELP. *TR

WHILE DRIVING, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE INDICATOR CAME ON ALONG WITH THE SERVICE ADVANCE-TRACK INDICATOR AND THEN THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED COMPLETELY. THIS FORCED ME INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND WITH NO ABILITY TO STEER THE CAR AT ALL. I WAS FORCED OFF THE ROAD BECAUSE I COULD NOT CHANGE DIRECTION AT ALL AND ENDED UP HITTING MY HEAD, ELBOW AND KNEES. AFTER CALLING THE FORD DEALER, THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS A "TSB" ABOUT IT BUT NO RECALL. THE DEALER THEN WENT ON TO TELL ME THAT ALMOST ALL THE FORD VEHICLES HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, EXCEPT THE MUSTANG EVEN THOUGH THEY SEE MORE OF THIS PROBLEM IN MUSTANGS THAN ANY OTHER MODEL. THEY THEN QUOTED ME OVER $3,000 TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. THIS PROBLEM, IN MY OPINION, COULD'VE KILLED ME AND I'M SHOCKED THAT IT HASN'T COST ANY ELSE THEIR LIFE. *TR

VEHICLE SENT TO FORD. I RECEIVED THE VEHICLE BACK ON 12/02/13, 25978 MILES; WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER FORD TSB- TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE DID PRESENT WITH SOME IMPROVEMENT. JANUARY 11 2013, RETURNED THE VEHICLE BACK TO FORD/ PROBLEMS AGAIN WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION. I EXPERIENCED GEARS GRINDING FROM PARK POSITION IN ATTEMPT TO SHIFT GEARS FROM REVERSE TO 1ST TO 2ND, MAJOR GRIND FROM 3RD TO 4TH GEARS. FURTHERMORE; DUE TO AWKWARDNESS OF THE DISPLACEMENT OF THE CLUTCH PEDAL ( I AM 5'3 ) THE VEHICLE WILL ONLY FUNCTION WHEN THE CLUTCH PEDAL IS DISPLACED COMPLETELY DOWN TO THE FLOOR BOARD WHICH MAKES MY SAFETY VULNERABLE CONSIDERING I HAVE TO ELECTRONICALLY ( ELECTRIC SEATS) PLACE MY SEAT FORWARD RESULTING IN BODY POSITIONED TOO CLOSE TO PROXIMITY OF THE STEERING WHEEL WITH MY KNEES LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 1 TO 2 INCHES FROM THE DASH BOARD. UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE, THE SEAT MUST BE POSITIONED BACKWARDS IN ORDER TO EXIT .TRANSMISSION ISSUES WAS ADDRESSED BY FORD/ EXTENSIVE TRANSMISSION WORK WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. PE11024 · Inability To Shift Gears On Acceleration

Opened Aug 3, 2011 · Closed Dec 14, 2011

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:manual Transmission

The Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) analyzed complaint data provided by Ford as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 364 unique reports indicating various shift quality issues while driving.Ford identified several factors that may contribute to shift quality concerns in the subject vehicles, including cold transmission, clutch stay-out at high engine speeds, gear clash or grinding, and gradual loosening of clutch plate bolts in some early production vehicles. The largest percentage of complaints indicated higher than expected shift efforts in cold ambient temperatures. These complaints were related to transmission fluid viscosity and the higher shift efforts resolved themselves with the drivetrain warming.Ford published technical service bulletin TSB 11-3-18 to inform technicians that a lower viscosity fluid was available for use to address the cold shift issues. The clutch stay-out condition typically occurs at engine speeds greater than 4000 rpm.It does not prevent the selection of any gear, but may delay clutch re-engagement depending on how long the driver maintains the higher engine speed.Ford identified rotating inertia of the clutch components as the root cause and replacement clutch pedal parts were made available under Ford TSB 10-19-4.A number of reports alleged increasing difficulty selecting gears along with gear clash or grinding.Grinding or notchy gear shifts may be caused by gradual loosening of clutch plate fasteners, which is promoted by certain aggressive shifting. This condition is progressive in nature and initially results in symptoms related to shift quality/feel.Clutch plate bolt loosening will not result in inability to select any gear unless the progressive symptoms are ignored until complete clutch failure occurs.ODI?s analysis identified only five complaints alleging an inability to shift into gear due to loose clutch plate bolts.None of these resulted in a stall and gear shifting could occur before engine start.A revised fastener was designed and implemented in production and is available for service through a special service message. There is no indication of loss of motive power or unreasonable safety risk associated with the alleged defect in the subject vehicles. This preliminary evaluation is closed.
