WHILE DRIVING WITH CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 55 MPH, CAR BEGAN TO DECELERATE, YELLOW "WRENCH" ADVISORY LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND ENGINE APPEARED TO BE RUNNING ROUGH. CAR SLOWED TO A STOP AND I PULLED THE CAR OFF THE ROADWAY. I SWITCHED OFF THE IGNITION AND WAITED APPROXIMATELY 30 SECONDS. I RESTARTED THE CAR. THE ADVISORY LIGHT STAYED OFF AND THE ENGINE RAN NORMALLY THEREAFTER. WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED, THE CAR WAS ON A HIGHWAY CURVING TURN TO THE RIGHT. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED COMING OUT OF THE CURVE.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE MOTOR SHUTS OFF. I HAVE TO QUICK PULL OFF THE ROAD, RESTART THE CAR. IT WILL DRIVE BUT AGAIN GET UP TO HIGHWAY SPEED, CAR SHUTS OFF. AFTER ABOUT THE 5TH TIME, FINALLY A CODE COMES ON, P2111 (THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM - STUCK OPEN. VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY.

TAKATA RECALL I HAD MY CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP RECENTLY TO DO NECESSARY REPAIRS TO THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG, THERE IS STILL AN ACTIVE RECALL FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG THAT THEY ARE STILL WAITING ON PARTS FOR. SO ANYWAY I REAR ENDED A VEHICLE WHILE STUCK IN SLOW MOVING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON I35 N IN AUSTIN TX. THIS HAPPENED AFTER THEY HAD WORKED ON MY DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG. I WAS NOT MOVING FASTER THAN 10MPH AND THE COLLISION IMPACT DID VERY MINIMAL DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE AND THE OTHER DRIVER'S VEHICLE. SINCE IT WAS BUMPER TO BUMPER RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WE COULD NOT BE BOTHERED WITH WAITING FOR A POLICE REPORT. LIKE I SAID THE DAMAGE WAS MINIMAL BUT THE ACCIDENT DID CAUSE MY AIRBAG TO DEPLOY, WHICH DID CAUSE MINOR BURN INJURIES ON MY HANDS AND ARMS. THIS IS THE MOST MILD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT I HAVE EXPERIENCED IN MY LIFETIME YET IT IS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE ACTUALLY SEEN AN AIRBAG DEPLOY, WHICH IS WHY I BELIEVE THERE MAY HAVE BEEN FLAWS WITH THE REPAIR JOB OR THE AIRBAG HAD MALFUNCTIONED. I HAVE ATTEMPTED NUMEROUS TIMES TO GET THE DEALERSHIP TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AND I HAVE NOT HAD ANY LUCK. THEY KEEP SAYING THEY ALREADY FIXED IT AND I AM GOING TO HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE MY INSURANCE ALSO WILL NOT COVER THE COST OF REPLACING MY AIRBAG. SO RIGHT NOW I AM CONTINUING TO DRIVE AROUND WITH A DEPLOYED AIRBAG AND MY INSPECTION IS CURRENTLY PAST DUE. SO I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE INSPECTED TO SEE IF THE AIRBAG RECALL REPAIR WORK THAT WAS DONE WAS FAULTY OR INCOMPLETE AND MOST LIKELY WHAT CAUSED MY AIRBAG TO DEPLOY UNNECESSARILY.
I NOTICED A YEAR AND A HALF AGO THE PAINT ON THE HOOD WAS BUBBLING UP SO I WENT TO 2 DEALERSHIPS AND ASKED WHAT CAN BE DONE. BOTH SAID NOTHING. IT HAS TO RUST BEFORE SOMETHING CAN BE DONE. NOW, HALF OF THE FRONT OF THE HOOD'S PAINT HAS BUBBLED UP AND PEELED OFF. THIS CHEAP PAINT ISSUE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR FORD.
ENGINE STALLED WHILE DRIVING SEVERAL TIMES (ONCE ON A CITY STREET AND TWICE ON THE HIGHWAY). ON OTHER OCCASIONS THE CAR WOULD HESITATE TO RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR. MECHANIC SCANNED THE COMPUTER AND FOUND CODE P2111 THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM STUCK OPEN, AND DETERMINED THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM TO BE THE THROTTLE BODY.

TAKATA RECALL: I WAS DRIVING IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON IH35 NORTH AND I ACCIDENTALLY REAR ENDED A VEHICLE TRYING TO GET ON THE EXIT RAMP. THE IMPACT WAS PRETTY MILD BECAUSE NO ONE WAS MOVING FASTER THAN 5-10 MPH. THE DAMAGE ON BOTH VEHICLES WAS MINIMAL AND BARELY NOTICEABLE BUT THE AIRBAG ON MY DRIVER SIDE DID DEPLOY. I HAD BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AS PART OF A SAFETY RECALL BEFORE THIS ACCIDENT. I HIGHLY SUSPECT THAT THE AIRBAG MAY HAVE DEPLOYED UNNECESSARILY OR DUE TO SOME FLAW IN THE REPAIR JOB. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO BRING MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND UPON SEEING THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED, MOST OF THE SERVICE PEOPLE START TALKING ABOUT HOW MUCH IT IS GOING TO COST TO FIX IT. I HAVE A SAFETY RECALL LETTER FROM FORD ASSURING ME THAT I SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE THIS FIXED PROMPTLY AND FREE OF CHARGE. I HAVE BEEN IN SEVERAL CAR ACCIDENTS, MUCH MORE SEVEREIMPACTS THAN THIS ONE BUT THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER SEEN MY CAR'S AIRBAG DEPLOY, AND THE LETTER I HAVE DOES WARN ME THAT IT COULD POSSIBLY DEPLOY ABNORMALLY.

MY INSURANCE ON MY RENTAL CAR WILL BE UP IN 2 WEEKS, THE CAR WOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED ALREADY IT JUST HAD MINOR FRONT END DAMAGE AND THE WINDSHIELD CRACK DUE TO THE AIRBAG AND THE AIRBAG INJURED MY RIGHT ARM. IT NEVER SHOULD DEPLOYED IN THE FIRST PLACE THE IMPACT WAS NOT EVEN THAT SEVERE. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY NEVER GET BACK WITH ME THIS IS BEGINNING TO GET VERY FRUSTRATING. MY CAR IS EASILY REPAIRABLE BUT ITS JUST SETTING THERE BECAUSE OF NO AIRBAG. Opened Aug 3, 2011 · Closed Dec 14, 2011
Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:manual Transmission
The Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) analyzed complaint data provided by Ford as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 364 unique reports indicating various shift quality issues while driving.Ford identified several factors that may contribute to shift quality concerns in the subject vehicles, including cold transmission, clutch stay-out at high engine speeds, gear clash or grinding, and gradual loosening of clutch plate bolts in some early production vehicles. The largest percentage of complaints indicated higher than expected shift efforts in cold ambient temperatures. These complaints were related to transmission fluid viscosity and the higher shift efforts resolved themselves with the drivetrain warming.Ford published technical service bulletin TSB 11-3-18 to inform technicians that a lower viscosity fluid was available for use to address the cold shift issues. The clutch stay-out condition typically occurs at engine speeds greater than 4000 rpm.It does not prevent the selection of any gear, but may delay clutch re-engagement depending on how long the driver maintains the higher engine speed.Ford identified rotating inertia of the clutch components as the root cause and replacement clutch pedal parts were made available under Ford TSB 10-19-4.A number of reports alleged increasing difficulty selecting gears along with gear clash or grinding.Grinding or notchy gear shifts may be caused by gradual loosening of clutch plate fasteners, which is promoted by certain aggressive shifting. This condition is progressive in nature and initially results in symptoms related to shift quality/feel.Clutch plate bolt loosening will not result in inability to select any gear unless the progressive symptoms are ignored until complete clutch failure occurs.ODI?s analysis identified only five complaints alleging an inability to shift into gear due to loose clutch plate bolts.None of these resulted in a stall and gear shifting could occur before engine start.A revised fastener was designed and implemented in production and is available for service through a special service message. There is no indication of loss of motive power or unreasonable safety risk associated with the alleged defect in the subject vehicles. This preliminary evaluation is closed.
