TRANS WILL LOOK UP ONCE SHIFTER IS IN BETWEEN GEARS AND WILL NOT GO INTO GEARS STILL SPEED AND RPM SLOW DOWN. MOST EVIDENT WHEN TRYING TO GO FROM 6TH TO 4TH. I WAS ALMOST IN AN ACCIDENT TWICE BECAUSE I WAS NOT ABLE TO DOWN SHIFT TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF A ONCOMING TRAFFIC. HAD A CRACKED RIM THAT WAS OBVIOUSLY A CASTING DEFECT. HAD A TICKING IN THE ENGINE AFTER LONG TRIPS. . 5.0 SOUNDED LIKE A DIESEL. *TR

I WAS DRIVING MY 2011 FORD MUSTANG GT AT APPROXIMATELY 8PM ON 6 JAN 2012. I SHIFTED FROM 2ND TO 3RD AND WHEN I DID, THE CLUTCH PEDAL STAYED ON THE FLOOR. I COULD SMELL EXCESSIVE CLUTCH WEAR AFTER THE INCIDENT. I AM THANKFUL THAT I AM AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE SAFELY. NOW THE CLUTCH STAYS ENGAGED AND YOU CAN NOT SHIFT IN TO ANY GEAR WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING. MY CAR IS NOW PARKED AND I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT FOR ALMOST ONE MONTH DUE TO WAITING PARTS COMING FROM THE STATES TO WHERE I AM STATIONED IN SOUTH KOREA. THE FORD SERVICE CENTER HERE HAS BEEN VERY FRIENDLY AND WILLING TO HELP RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THEY IDENTIFIED THE ISSUE AS MY CLUTCH. FINALLY, SOMETHING GAVE WITH MY MUSTANG AND HOPEFULLY CAN GET THE PROBLEM FINALLY RESOLVED AND CAN ENJOY MY CAR. *TR

I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR... FIRST AT A LITTLE OVER 1000 MILES THE CAR WOULDN'T GO INTO FIRST OR REVERSE WITHOUT A LOT OF FORCING AND DOUBLE CLUTCHING... LOCAL DEALER SAID OF WE NEED TO SWAP YOUR TRANSMISSION FLUID TO FULL SYTHETIC AND IT'LL WORK LIKE NEW. THAT DID NOTHING SOON THE CAR WOULDN'T GO INTO FOURTH GEAR AND WOULDN'T DOWNSHIFT TO THIRD GEAR EITHER. IT WENT BACK TO.THE SHOP THEY SAID THEY FIXED IT BUT EVEN THE TECH SAID IT WASNT 100% FIXED AND THAT IT MAY PERIODICALLY MESS UP. SOON THERE REPAIRS GOT WORSE THE CAR WOULD COMPLETELY LOCK REAR WHEELS DURING SIMPLE DOWNSHIFTS OR UPSHIFTS. THEY REPAIRED AGAIN. AT ONE POINT ON THE INTESTATE IT LOCKED UP AND THE PERSON BEHIND ME LOST CONTROLL AND SPUN INTO.THE GRASS OFF THE ROAD.. IT WENT IN AGAIN FOR REPAIRS THIS TIME THE CLUTCH NEEDED ADJUSTING AND THE FIXED SOME.FAILED PARTS... THEN THE REAR STARTED LEAKING THIS PAST THANKSGIVING AND I WAS STUCK.IN MYRTLE BEACH AND THE CAR WAS AT THE DEALER THERE AND THE PART THE NEEDED TO.FIX THE CAR WAS ON BACK ORDER. I'M A 22 YEAR OLD GUY WITH SERIOUS HEALTH PROBLEMS TRYING TO.ENJOY.MYSELF BUT THE STRESS FROM THIS CAR IS KILLING ME AND THE CAR HAS CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AND I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN IT... FORD SAYS THERE SORRY BUT WON'T REALLY DO.ANYTHING ITS SPENT OVER 80 DAYS IN THE SHOP. FOR SAID I NEED A LAWYER OR THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING TO HELP ME. I HAVE FILED MULTIPLE CRC COMPLAINTS BUT.FORD CLOSES THEM WHEN THEY SAY THE CARS FIXED WHICH IT NEVER IS. CURRENTLY THE CARS BEEN IN THE DEALER THE LAST 10 DAYS AND THEY SAY ITS FIXED BUT ALSO. SAY ITS SHAKING CAUSE MY RIMS BENT FROM REAR END LOCK UPS AND I HAVE WHEEL AND TIRE COVERAGE AND THEY STILL WON'T FIX THE ISSUE L. PLEASE HELP ME. *TR

?TRANSMISSION NOTCHINESS ?OCCASIONALLY UNABLE TO GET INTO GEARS (NOT DUE TO SKIP SHIFT) ?CLUTCH MAKES OCCASIONAL CLUNKING NOISES ESPECIALLY AT LOW SPEEDS ?COLD SHIFTING EXACERBATES PROBLEMS (WILL BE TAKEN CARE OF BY TSB) DANGEROUS EXPERIENCES: ?NOVEMBER 18TH: I WAS ACCELERATING ONTO THE HIGHWAY TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC. ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT FROM THIRD GEAR TO FOURTH GEAR AS I WAS PASSING A SEMI. I WAS UNABLE TO GET INTO GEAR (SHIFTING CORRECTLY: CLUTCH DEPRESSED, CALM SMOOTH GEAR CHANGE), AND I WAS FORCED TO DRIVE OFF THE ROAD AT 35+ MPH. THIS LIFE THREATENING EXPERIENCE MOVED ME TO TAKE THESE ACTIONS. ?DECEMBER 5TH: AS I WAS TAKING THE VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP FOR THE THIRD REPAIR ATTEMPT, I WAS TURNING LEFT AT AN INTERSECTION AND HAD TO SHIFT FROM FIRST TO SECOND (AT 2000 RPM SO NO SKIP SHIFT ISSUE). I WAS UNABLE TO ENTER THE GEAR AND WAS VULNERABLE TO ACCIDENTS BEING STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. I FINALLY SHIFTED INTO THE SECOND GEAR WITH A LOUD GRIND, AVOIDING A COLLISION WITH A BUS. *TR

PE11024 · Inability To Shift Gears On Acceleration

Opened Aug 3, 2011 · Closed Dec 14, 2011

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:manual Transmission

The Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) analyzed complaint data provided by Ford as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 364 unique reports indicating various shift quality issues while driving.Ford identified several factors that may contribute to shift quality concerns in the subject vehicles, including cold transmission, clutch stay-out at high engine speeds, gear clash or grinding, and gradual loosening of clutch plate bolts in some early production vehicles. The largest percentage of complaints indicated higher than expected shift efforts in cold ambient temperatures. These complaints were related to transmission fluid viscosity and the higher shift efforts resolved themselves with the drivetrain warming.Ford published technical service bulletin TSB 11-3-18 to inform technicians that a lower viscosity fluid was available for use to address the cold shift issues. The clutch stay-out condition typically occurs at engine speeds greater than 4000 rpm.It does not prevent the selection of any gear, but may delay clutch re-engagement depending on how long the driver maintains the higher engine speed.Ford identified rotating inertia of the clutch components as the root cause and replacement clutch pedal parts were made available under Ford TSB 10-19-4.A number of reports alleged increasing difficulty selecting gears along with gear clash or grinding.Grinding or notchy gear shifts may be caused by gradual loosening of clutch plate fasteners, which is promoted by certain aggressive shifting. This condition is progressive in nature and initially results in symptoms related to shift quality/feel.Clutch plate bolt loosening will not result in inability to select any gear unless the progressive symptoms are ignored until complete clutch failure occurs.ODI?s analysis identified only five complaints alleging an inability to shift into gear due to loose clutch plate bolts.None of these resulted in a stall and gear shifting could occur before engine start.A revised fastener was designed and implemented in production and is available for service through a special service message. There is no indication of loss of motive power or unreasonable safety risk associated with the alleged defect in the subject vehicles. This preliminary evaluation is closed.
