146 reportsVehicle lost all power while driving on the freeway. Had to pull over, find a safe place to park and while doing that, the engine sounded like a diesel engine.
While driving, the car severely jerked and all the lights on the dash lit up. While driving, the car severely jerked and all the lights on the dash lit up. I received the errors “Powertrain failure”, “vehicle in low gear mode”, “pre collision assist not available” and “service engine soon”. I quickly lost all power and was completely unable to accelerate. I happened to be going down hill so I coasted to a clear area where I could safely stop. After coming to a stop the car could not move forward and needed to be towed. I have not received any errors prior to this. However, I did recently complete a recall that involved a powertrain software update.
We have been informed of this safety recall since june of last year and still do not have a solution for it. We have been parking outside to mitigate fire risk. The ford dealer in Olathe KS and Shawnee KS have both been unable to alleviate this risk for our vehicle.

I parked the vehicle, shut the engine off, and restarted. upon restarting the vehicle would only move at approximately 10mph, the accelerator pedal was still unresponsive. I then parked the vehicle and called for a tow truck to take the vehicle to the dealership.

Yes, I was driving around 75 mph [XXX] in Thousand Oaks, Ca and I lost power to the engine. No acceleration from the gas pedal. Was able to turn hazards on and make it off freeway. This issue now has happened over 5 times at all speeds. Truck is currently with Ford. Also this issue never happened until Ford fixed the CV axles that went bad. First time it lost power was the night I picked up from dealership from them fixing cv axles. They also did some recall updates with codes. I can say this is a very dangerous situation when losing power driving on a California freeway. Not having my truck is also causing me many issues with work and clients. The truck is my lifeline. There was a message about low gear, the shifter was blinking, I lost collision assist, traction control, and something called bill start. I was able to pull over and shut it off. When I restarted a minute later it accelerated on its own with no input from me. Braking worked but it was slowly moving up in speed.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer for recall repairs, of which three were completed. While driving 70 MPH on a five-lane interstate, the navigation screen began to ding, and alerts and messages were displayed. The service track was offline, the incline assist was offline, and the vehicle failed to accelerate above 20 MPH and went into LIMP Mode. The driver pulled over to the side of the road. The contact reset the battery and continued to drive. The service light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer, who stated that the failure was not related to the recalls that were completed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. After approximately four days of driving at unknown speeds, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer, Wyatt Johnson Ford (646 Thompson Ln., Nashville, TN 37204), who stated there were no codes and was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The dealer's recommendation was to download and update the software and test drive the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 29,781.

Today I was driving on the highway when the precollision alert came on with no vehicles in front of me. About 5 minutes later I received a series of error messages and the vehicle went into a limo mode where it automatically drove at 20 MPH with no accelerator input from the driver. The following errors popped up on my screen. Check engine light Power train light (wrench)/reduced power Brake light pre-collision light/pre-collision unavailable Hill assist message Will engage in gear selected at low speed. Pulled over, shut it off, turned it back on, put in drive and it started accelerating on its own but only up to about 20mph, stopped and shut it off again. Turned back on and all the messages and light disappeared except check engine light remained on.

1RQ24014 · Loss Of Motive Power
Opened Nov 15, 2024 · Closed Oct 10, 2025
Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Electrical SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V Battery
On January 31, 2024, The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened a Preliminary Evaluation (PE24002) to investigate loss of motive power allegations in model year (MY) 2021 Ford Bronco Sport vehicles. Consumers reported a loss of engine power accompanied by complete electrical system failure either while driving or after stopping at a traffic light or stop sign. The vehicles generally could not be restarted, and the incidents were commonly diagnosed by dealerships to a failed 12-Volt (12V) battery. On April 12, 2024, Ford issued safety recall 24V-267 covering 456,565 MY 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sport and MY 2022-2023 Ford Maverick vehicles. The recall addressed loss of motive power resulting from sudden degradation of the 12V battery during the drive cycle. The recall remedy consisted of software updates to the body control module and the powertrain control module. The updated software aimed to provide warning to consumers when the battery is failing and inhibit certain vehicle functions which can lead to loss of motive power incidents. Additionally, Ford removed the existing 12V Enhanced Flooded Battery (EFB) as both a service component for the subject vehicles and original equipment for newly built Bronco Sport vehicles (during MY 2024 production), replacing it with a more robust absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery. The same AGM battery had been incorporated into Ford Maverick production in late 2022. Following recall 24V-267, ODI received loss of motive power complaints in vehicles that had previously received Ford’s software-based remedy. Consumers reported that they did not receive warnings related to the 12V battery or the vehicle’s electrical system before the loss of power. On November 15, 2024, ODI opened Recall Query (RQ24014) to assess the effectiveness of the 24V-267 recall remedy. On January 19, 2025, Ford issued recall 25V-019 covering 272,817 MY 2021-2023 Bronco Sport and MY 2022-2023 Ford Maverick vehicles. The new recall addressed the same hazard as 24V-267 but required replacement of the existing 12V battery with an AGM battery as the remedy. Ford reported that following the opening of RQ24014, it evaluated several field-returned 12V batteries, and determined that EFBs produced by battery supplier Camel potentially contained internal manufacturing defects causing loss of motive power. Ford further concluded that the software updates provided in the 24V-267 recall remedy were unable to detect battery failures quickly enough to avoid loss of motive power. Vehicles previously within the scope of recall 24V-267, but outside of the scope of recall 25V-019, are equipped with EFBs produced by a different battery supplier (Clarios). When recall 25V-019 was issued, Ford had not identified any Clarios EFBs exhibiting the same failure mode as the Camel EFBs. In light of Ford’s recall action, ODI is closing this Recall Query. The agency will continue to monitor loss of motive power complaints in Bronco Sport vehicles equipped with Clarios EFBs and reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.
