THE VEHICLE IDLES ROUGH, THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND THE RPMS GET HIGH IN FIRST AND SECOND GEARS, IT TAKES FOREVER TO ACCELERATE, THE FUEL GAUGE WILL SAY 100 MILES TILL EMPTY THEN DIE ON YOU, I HAVE BEEN STRANDED 5 TIMES IN LESS THAN A YEAR DUE TO THAT, RECENTLY ON 2/8/20 THE CAR WOULDN'T ACCELERATE IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION AND PROCEEDED TO STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I HAD TO LITERALLY PUSH THE CAR OUT OF THE INTERSECTION AND INTO A STORE PARKING LOT DURING 5PM TRAFFIC. I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS CAR RECEIVED A 5 STAR SAFETY RATING, I FEEL A NUMBER OF THINGS ABOUT THIS MODEL CAR AND COMPANY BUT SAFE DEFINITELY IS NOT ONE OF THEM. DOORS THAT HAVE DEFECTIVE LATCHES, OPENING AT ANYTIME, TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS LEADING TO CARS CONSTANTLY ALMOST REAR ENDING YOU, AND A CAR THAT CAN STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION OR FREEWAY, IS NOT BY ANY MEANS A DEFINITION OF THE WORD SAFE. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD AGAIN, AND I WILL CONVINCE ANY ELSE TO NOT BUY FROM A COMPANY THAT VALUES PROFITS OVER CONSUMER SAFETY BY INSTALLING CHEAP, DEFECTIVE PARTS AND COMPONENTS

THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED ON AUGUST 11, 2019 FROM OURISMAN CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM OF BOWIE. A FEW DAYS AFTER, I STARTED NOTICING ISSUES WITH ACCELERATION, DECELERATION, AND FUEL GAUGE ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND I WAS TOLD THAT FIXING THE FUEL TANK RECALL AND TRANSMISSION WARRANTY EXTENSION ON THE VEHICLE WILL FIX THE ISSUES. I TOOK OFF A DAY FROM WORK AND TOOK TO OURISMAN FORD & LINCOLN IN ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA. AFTER SEVERAL HOURS OF WAITING, I WAS TOLD THAT I WILL HAVE TO DROP IT OFF ANOTHER DAY BECAUSE SOME PART(S) WILL BE ORDERED. ABOUT A WEEK AFTER, I DROPPED IT OFF AND IT STAYED FOR OVER 3 DAYS. I WAS TOLD THAT EVERYTHING WAS OKAY. PERHAPS, JUST ABOUT 1000 MILES OF DRIVING IN ABOUT 6 WEEKS AFTER THE REPAIR, I ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT DUE ALMOST SUDDEN STOP ON THE HIGHWAY ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2019. I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 60MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE ALMOST STOPPED WITH THE ALERT 'TRANSMISSION FAULT SERVICE NOW'. I MANAGED TO PULL OFF THE ROAD, TURNED OF THE ENGINE AND TURNED IT ON AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND THE ALERT CAME UP AGAIN. I DROVE AT NO MORE 20MPH WITH THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON TO MY HOME. I SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT WITH DARCARS FORD IN LANHAM MD TO DROP IT OFF ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2019. I AM COMPLAINING BECAUSE I HAVE OWNED THIS FOR LESS THAN 90 DAYS BUT I HAVE GONE THROUGH A WHOLE LOT. NOW IT'S BECOMING CLEAR THAT THE DEALERSHIP KNEW, CONCEALED AND SOLD A SEVERELY USELESS VEHICLE THAT ALMOST TOOK MY LIFE. I AM FRUSTRATED BECAUSE THE ABSENCE OF A VEHICLE WILL OBSTRUCT MY WORK, MY SON'S SCHOOL AND ALL OUR MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS FOR THE WEEK. I SINCERELY NEED HELP... *TR

CAR STALLS AT WILL, GAS GAUGE & MILES TO EMPTY ALWAYS WRONG, LOW FUEL INDICATOR LIGHT NEVER COMES ON AND HAS HUGE PROBLEM W/ ACCELERATION. IT OFTEN SHAKES VIOLENTLY WHEN I HIT GAS PEDAL, ALSO TAKES FOREVER TO GET UP TO SPEED. IF IT'S NOT SHAKING VIOLENTLY THEN IT JUST STALLS, LITERALLY DIES, WILL NOT RESTART. FORGET FUEL GAUGE. NOT ONLY IS IT ALWAYS WRONG, IT CHANGES AT WILL. I GO UP OR DOWN A HILL, GAUGE & MILES TO EMPTY CHANGES. LOW FUEL INDICATOR NEVER LIGHTS UP SO WHO KNOWS HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE. LAST TWO TIMES IT STALLED ON HIGHWAY AT 65MPH. ENGINE JUST CUT OUT, DIED & WOULD NOT RESTART. HAS BEEN TO DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES IN 3 WEEKS FOR SAME ISSUES. FIRST INCIDENT, KINDLE FORD IN CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, NJ HAD IT 9 DAYS OVER LABOR DAY HOLIDAY. FINALLY ADVISED REPAIRS ELIGIBLE UNDER RECALL HOWEVER WAITING FOR PARTS, SPECIFICALLY FUEL TANK, WHICH ACCORDING TO FEDEX WAS IN TRANSIT. 'LUCKY FOR ME' HE SAID, FINALLY HAD LOANER AVAILABLE. I'M WALKING TO GET LOANER WHEN SUDDENLY TECH YELLS OVER THAT MY CAR IS DONE! WHAT? HE JUST SAID TANK WAS IN TRANSIT! RELUCTANTLY TOOK MY CAR ONLY TO HAVE IT DIE AGAIN. HAD IT TOWED TO KINDLE AGAIN AND HE SAID CAR STARTED RIGHT UP FOR HIM AFTER HE PUT GAS IN IT. HE IMPLIED I RAN OUT OF GAS BECAUSE GAUGE WAS PINNED ON EMPTY. I HAD PUT GAS IN IT THAT MORNING. GAUGE INDICATES IT WAS LOW BUT IT WAS NOT PINNED ON EMPTY (SEE PHOTO). AND IF THAT WAS THE CASE, WARNING LIGHT NEVER CAME ON (SEE PHOTO). NOW THEY ARE SAYING THEY CAN'T FIX IT UNTIL THEY REPLICATE PROBLEMS FOR THEMSELVES. AS IF I WAS LYING! CAR DOESN'T DO IT WHEN THEY DRIVE IT SO WHAT DO I DO? I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE MY OWN CAR BUT I HAVE TO GO TO WORK, ETC. I JUST HOPE MY SON & I AREN'T KILLED WHEN CAR UNEXPECTEDLY STALLS AGAIN WHILE WE ARE ON THE HIGHWAY.

Insufficient compression in the engine wiring harness splices to the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor may provide incorrect signals to the powertrain control module (PCM).

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: The incorrect signals could cause the vehicle to hesitate or the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the current crimped splices with new splices, free of charge. The recall began in October 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S17.

RQ23006 · Loss Of Motive Power

Opened Sep 15, 2023 · Closed Dec 20, 2024

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Fuel System, Gasoline:storage:evaporative Emissions:canister

On September 15, 2023, the Office of Defect Investigation (ODI) opened this Recall Query (RQ) after receiving 98 consumer complaints alleging loss of motive power in model year (MY) 2012-2018 Ford Focus vehicles. The RQ focused on the effectiveness of the remedies of Recall 18V-735 and 19V-515. In October 2018, Ford issued Recall 18V-735, which updated Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software in MY 2012-2018 Ford Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GDI engines built prior to April 13, 2017, and those with 2.0L GTDI engines built prior to February 2, 2018. The recall addressed vehicles experiencing a malfunctioning Canister Purge Valve (CPV) that can stick open and PCM software that does not adequately detect a stuck-open CPV condition. A CPV that is stuck open can cause excessive vacuum in the fuel vapor management system, potentially deforming the fuel tank, collapsing on itself. This deformation of the fuel tank can cause a Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) to illuminate, an inaccurate or erratic fuel gauge indication, drivability issues, and/or loss of motive power. In July 2019, Ford issued Recall 19V-515, which addressed certain MY 2012 and MY 2017 Ford Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GDI and MY 2013-2014 Ford Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI engines whose PCM software had been reprogrammed as a part of recall 18V-735. The updated software calibrations for these subject vehicles were not properly installed by Ford at the time of production. Approximately one year after this RQ was opened, on September 25, 2024, Ford initiated a customer satisfaction program (24N07) for MY 2012-2018 Ford Focus vehicles equipped with the 2.0L GDI and GTDI engines to—as ODI learned during this investigation—address a different issue with the CPV from the primary focus of the safety recalls (18V-735 and 19V-515).  Ford stated the CPV may not operate as intended in these vehicles.  A failed CPV on its own merit, may cause drivability concerns such as engine hesitation, running rough, or stalling at low speed, which will be accompanied by an illuminated MIL. This program provides a one-time replacement of the CPV for vehicles with 15 years of service or less (with no mileage restriction). This coverage will automatically transfer to subsequent owners. It is to be noted that the customer satisfaction program being taken by Ford to address this RQ investigation results in a much different and significantly less severe problem than the safety action taken to remedy 18V-735 and 19V-515.  ODI found no further issues with the combined scope and severity related to 18V-735 and 19V-515 therefore, ODI is closing this Recall Query. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. RQ19005 · Door Latch Failures

Opened Dec 19, 2019 · Closed Feb 7, 2022

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Latches/locks/linkages; Latches/locks/linkages:doors:latch; Structure:body; Structure:body:door

In December 2019, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this investigation based on 235 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) alleging doors failed to latch when closed, and/or inadvertently opened while driving, on model year (MY) 2012-2014 Ford Fiesta, and 2013-2014 Fusion and Lincoln MKZ. Some VOQs reported the failure occurred after the latch had been remedied under a prior recall which involved fracture of the latch pawl spring tab due to thermally induced cyclic fatigue. Other VOQs alleged a similar failure in vehicles not previously recalled. A latch with a fractured pawl spring tab typically results in a ?door will not close? condition, however in certain somewhat rare circumstances, may result in the door coming open while driving. In response to ODI?s investigation, Ford has announced three field actions, as discussed below. On March 23, 2020, Ford submitted Safety Recall 20V-177 (Ford 20S15), a regional recall campaign to address door latch failures in vehicles not previously recalled under Safety Recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 and 17V-210. The recall affects vehicles currently or ever registered in certain high ambient temperature states (see 20V-177 for affected states). As a remedy, Ford will replace all four door latches free of charge. On August 24, 2020, Ford issued a non-safety regional field action (Ford 20R01) to address door latch failures on the same model/MY vehicles not covered under 20V-177 (i.e., not currently/ever registered in affected states). According to Ford, spring tab failure rates for vehicles covered by this action are about half that of the 20V-177 vehicles. Under this action, dealers will replace all door latches, free of charge, if either; a) the vehicle exhibits a related latch concern, or b) if the vehicle owner expresses a concern about the latches in their vehicles. Details can be found under NHTSA TSB No. 10190990, a copy of which is available in this investigative file available at NHTSA.gov.On June 8, 2020, Ford submitted Safety Recall 20V-331 (Ford 20S30) addressing vehicles previously remedied under NHTSA Recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 and 17V-210, where the repair may not have been properly completed, specifically not all of the door latches were replaced, or replaced correctly. This recall involves an inspection of the latches, with the option for a consumer self-inspection; owners could view the date codes on their latches (and confirm child safety locks are present on the rear doors) and then submit the information to Ford?s mobile app or website. A dealership inspection option was also available. Any vehicle found to have unreplaced defective latches requires the replacement of all door latches as directed by Ford.Regarding the 4,494 reports cited above, 1,485 involve scope-related failures (with 13% alleging door opening), and the remaining 3,009 reports involving remedy concerns (with 18% alleging door opening - note ODI was unable to verify the allegations of door opening). The three ODI injuries were all relatively minor. Ford?s reported injury incidences include one (unconfirmed) report of an ejection, three minor injuries with the others involving undisclosed injuries. Ford?s crashes involved two (unconfirmed) crashes alleging the incident door contacted another vehicle and three involving doors striking other property. The recalled vehicles include MY 2011-2015 Ford Fiesta, 2013-2016 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, 2015 Ford Mustang and Lincoln MKC, 2013-2015 Ford Escape and Ford C-MAX, 2012-2015 Ford Focus and 2014-2016 Ford Transit Connect.Ford's actions address ODI's concerns at this time. ODI will take further action if warranted by new information. The reference (OD
