AS WITH ALL OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS, THE OSCILLATION BEGINS AFTER HITTING UNEVEN PAVEMENT, AND GROWS UNTIL YOU SLOW DOWN. THE FORD TRUCK OWNERS THAT HAVE POSTED SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ARE BEGGING FORD (OR NHTSA) TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED, OR KILLED. WHEN THAT HAPPENS, WE WILL ALL BE WONDERING WHY THE COMPLAINTS AND INFORMATION WAS PROVIDED, WHEN NOTHING WAS GOING TO BE DONE TO CORRECT THE ISSUE (AND TO SAVE LIVES).

A YEAR LATER AND AT 53,000 MILES, THIS BEGAN HAPPENING AGAIN WHILE TOWING MY TRAVEL TRAILER CAMPER. IT IS ABOUT 8,000 LBS AND 650 POUNDS ON THE HITCH. THE PROBLEM WAS FAR WORSE WITH THE WEIGHT DISTRIBUTING HITCH THAN WITHOUT, HOWEVER I DID EXPERIENCE IT TWICE IN ABOUT 100 MILES ON A STANDARD HITCH.

DRIVING TRUCK ON HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 73 MPH. STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING BACK AND FOURTH BADLY, WOBBLING. APPLIED BRAKES AND IT SETTLED DOWN. IT HAS DONE THIS SEVERAL TIMES. ALSO DONE AT ABOUT 50 MPH ON NEWLY ASPHALT HIGHWAY. APLLIED BRAKES AND IT SETTLED DOWN. I ALSO HAD MY TIRES BALANCED AT TWO DIFFERENT TIRE SHOPS THAT I DEAL WITH ALL THE TIME. ALL THIS IS DRVING STRAIGHT ON SMOOTH ASPHAULT HIGHWAY. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY SAID STEERING DAMPNER (I THINK WAS THE NAME) WAS BAD. REPLACED IT AND SAID THEY DROVE IT AND WAS OK. TRUCK HAD AROUND 17,800 WHEN IT FIRST DID THIS. TRUCK STILL HAD A VERY VERY SLIGHT RIGHT TO LEFT SHAKE.THIS WAS DONE ON 9/20/2019, 18,257 MILES. DID NOT HAVE A "DEATH WOBBLE" AGAIN UNTIL 11/15/2019. IT WAS HORRIBLE. ON INTERSATE FOURTY IN ARKANSAS DRIVING ON STRAIGHT ROAD ABOUT 78MPH AROUND 8:00 AT NIGHT.. DID NOT FEEL ANY BUMP. WORSE WOBBLE I HAVE HAD ON MY TRUCK . THE WOBBLE DID NO STOP UNTIL I GOT OFF INTERSTATE AND STOPPED THE TRUCK. SCARED ME AND MY BROTHER TO DEATH!!! DID NOT DO IT AGAIN ON WAY HOME, THIS IS ABOUT 350 MILES. STILL HAS LITTLE SHAKE TO STEERING WHEEL THAT I SAID EARLIER. I DON'T KNOW WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THIS HAD BEEN MY WIFE OR GRAND DAUGHTER. THIS IS A VERY VERY VSRY SERIOUS PROBLEM. I CALLED MY DEALER WHEN AND HE SAID BRING IT BACK AND TRY NOT TO DRIVE IT OVER 70MPH. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WOTH IT. I HAVE VIDEOS OF SOME OF THIS, BUT NOT THE LAST TIME

EXPERIENCING SEVERE STEERING OSCILLATION (DEATH WOBBLE) UNDER NORMAL HIGHWAY OPERATION WITH MY FACTORY STOCK 2017 FORD F-250 4X4. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP TWICE FOR THIS STEERING OSCILLATION ISSUE, UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY, AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THE DEALER NOW STATES THEY ARE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND STATED A FORD FACTORY TECH INSTRUCTED THEM TO INCREASE THE FRONT TIRE PRESSURE TO 5 PSI OVER WHAT THE DOOR STICKER INDICATES AS THE RECOMMENDED PSI. THE DEALER ROAD FORCE BALANCED THE FRONT TIRES AND TOLD ME THE VEHICLE COULD BE PICKED UP. I PICKED UP THE VEHICLE AND EXPERIENCED THE STEERING OSCILLATION AGAIN ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEATH WOBBLE NORMALLY OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING STRAIGHT AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 45 AND 55 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE ENCOUNTERS BUMPS (EXPANSION JOINTS IN THE ROADWAY) AND/OR ROADWAY TO BRIDGE TRANSITIONS. THE VEHICLE SHAKES VIOLENTLY AND THE STEERING WHEEL OSCILLATES RAPIDLY. THE VEHICLE RETURNS TO NORMAL FUNCTION WHEN THE SPEED IS REDUCED TO SPEEDS UNDER 30 MPH.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty trucks equipped with 6.2L engines and six-speed automatic transmissions. These transmissions may have a damaged park rod actuating plate that can result in unexpected vehicle movement even though the transmission has been shifted to 'Park.' As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 102, "Transmission Shift Lever Sequence/Starter Interlock/Transmission Braking Effect", and number 114, "Theft Protection."

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Unexpected vehicle movement such as a vehicle rollaway can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the park rod actuating plate and replace it, if necessary, free of charge. The recall began on June 1, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 17C06.

Dec 29, 2016

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2017 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty trucks manufactured August 10, 2016, to September 17, 2016. The frame reinforcement bracket may not have been attached to the front fuel tank strap, allowing the fuel tank strap to separate from the frame.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A fuel tank strap that separates and allows the fuel tank to contact the ground may cause a fuel leak, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, install the reinforcement bracket, free of charge. The recall began on February 7, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16S45.

Oct 26, 2016

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2017 Ford F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD, and F-550 SD trucks manufactured March 21, 2016, to August 28, 2016. The protective shield on the fuel conditioning module may have inadequate adhesion, allowing the shield to become dislodged.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the shield becomes dislodged, the drain valve may open resulting in a fuel leak. A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, increases the risk of a fire. Under certain conditions, significant liquid fuel on the road surface may cause a slip hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the protective shield, free of charge. The recall began November 11, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16S39.

PE24014 · Sogefi Secondary Diesel Fuel Filter Leak

Opened May 9, 2024 · No close date supplied

Status: open (inferred from source dates) · Fuel System, Diesel; Fuel System, Other:fuel Filter

The Office of Defect Investigations (ODI) has received 27 complaints alleging diesel fuel leaks due to a fracture in the secondary fuel filter housing in model year (MY) 2015-2021 Ford Motor Company (Ford) F-250, 350, 450, and 550 Super Duty vehicles equipped with 6.7L diesel engines. Of these complaints, 12 describe an engine compartment fire. The proximity of the secondary fuel filter to high heat sources creates a potential for autoignition thermal events and fires. ODI has contacted the vehicle manufacturer, Ford, and the filter manufacturer, Allevard Sogefi USA (Sogefi), and learned that the low-pressure fuel system is capable of a maximum operating pressure of 8.5 Bar, while the secondary fuel filter is only tested to seven (7) Bar during the manufacturing process. Additionally, changes starting in 2022 by both Ford and Sogefi align with a lack of similar complaints on MY 2022 and newer vehicles. ODI is opening this Preliminary Evaluation (PE) to evaluate the severity of the potential problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related problems. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

In January 2021, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened a Recall Query (RQ21-001) to assess allegations of post-recall remedy uncommanded tailgate openings in model year (MY) 2017-2019 F-250/350/450 Ford trucks. Besides the recall remedy launched in January 2020, Ford also implemented a production update in November 2019.  At the time of the RQ opening, ODI had received eleven (11) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs). ODI sent an Information Request (IR) to Ford in February 2021. In numerous meetings after receiving their IR response, Ford highlighted the drop in claims since the recall and production update and communicated how they were unable to verify the owners’ complaints or replicate the concern. Despite this, Ford began developing ways to prevent uncommanded tailgate openings from various human, mechanical or electrical causes. Based on testing, Ford issued a Customer Satisfaction program, 21M05-S1/S2/S3, to further address the potential of unintended tailgate openings. This work was applied to vehicles being produced as of December 20, 2021.  The program began for already delivered vehicles on July 22, 2022. The covered models include 2017-2022 F-250, 350, 450, 550, 650 and 750 Super Duty and 2020-2022 F-600 Super Duty trucks. ODI has received 39 VOQs between February 24, 2020, and December 15, 2023, alleging uncommanded tailgate openings.  In a detailed analysis, none of the vehicles in the VOQs were found to have received the Customer Satisfaction update. Since ODI has not received any complaints of post-Customer Satisfaction program tailgate openings, this office is closing this Recall Query. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. PE18011 · Power Tailgate Opens Unintended

Opened Oct 12, 2018 · Closed Dec 12, 2019

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Electrical System:wiring; Structure:body:tailgate:hinge And Attachments

By letter dated December 4, 2019, Ford Motor Company (Ford) notified the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) of a safety defect that may exist in model years (MY) 2017 through 2019 Ford Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450 vehicles equipped with an electric tailgate. Following the receipt of five consumer complaints alleging unintended tailgate opening without vehicle operator knowledge, while the vehicles were in motion, NHTSA opened this investigation to assess the manufacturer's data including warranty claims, field reports, design changes, etc.In vehicles equipped with an electric tailgate, water can enter the electrical wiring system and may cause a short circuit resulting in the unintended activation and release of the tailgate latch. This could allow unintended opening of the tailgate while the vehicle is in motion.Analysis of the data provided by Ford found that the frequency of a tailgate opening unintended was high in vehicles equipped with electric tailgates. Unintended tailgate opening without vehicle operator knowledge may result in loss of unrestrained cargo, increasing the risk of a crash. In response to this investigation, Ford decided to conduct recall 19V-864.Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford dealer to modify the tailgate/frame wiring harnesses by adding jumper pigtails to isolate the tailgate release control circuits, and will install a new tailgate handle release switch. With recall action 19V-864 taken by Ford Motor Company this investigation is closed. Further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist on other model or MY vehicles outside of the recall scope.
