The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal ticking sound coming from the engine. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the intake valve covers and the cylinder #5 intake camshaft lobe were damaged. The vehicle failed to accelerate as intended upon depressing the accelerator pedal and stalled. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was pushed to the side of the road. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the residence. The vehicle remained at the residence unrepaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 126,273.

I was just stopped at a red light and took foot off pedal and the vehicle didn't restart. The instrument cluster showed a warning saying "Auto StartStop Shift to P then Restart". This has happened 4-5 times in the past month.

The service dealer at Acton Ford tried to reproduce the problem a couple years ago by driving it, but acceleration problem didn’t happen. The problem occurred today, Dec 6, 2025 while braking for a stop light when I had to stomp on the brakes and shifted into Park. This could be dangerous if I pulled through the red light into cross-traffic.

This 5.0L Coyote engine burns or consumes oil more than the manufacturer stated allowance. It consumes 3 quarts or more between oil changes (3500 mile intervals). Every 500 miles, I check the oil and add approximately 1/2 quart. This is a known issue by Ford and Ford owners. It should be a recall!

This 5.0L Coyote engine has been very problematic. Since 2020, it has made a chatter at low speeds which sounds like a motor dieseling. After numerous visits and complaints to Ford with trying to address the noise, the service manager said it was due to running 87 octane instead of 91+. This vehicle does not mandate premium fuel by the manufacturer but infact the chatter or dieseling goes away when using the premium grade fuel. Consumers should be made aware of this prior to buying a vehicle. Furthermore, the dealership could not tell me if this chattering has caused damage to the engine which could result in shorter life on the engine. This problem exists to this day if not using premium fuel.

Starting in December of 2023 we started to get a engine light that kept coming on and off about every other week. We took the truck to the dealership for a diagnosis and Ford had told us it was an issue with the catalytic convertors throwing an error code. After the third trip into the dealership and a resetting of the code as per Ford they replaced the driver side catalytic convertor. After a few months of no issues the engine light started coming off and on again. This time the driver side was throwing the code this time. We took the truck into Ford and they reset the light. On the second time it came on after going to the dealership we contacted Ford again about the issue and they stated that a computer update was available for our truck and it would recalibrate the truck computer to help with it throwing the code because it was set at a sensitive setting and it was happening nationwide. We had stated to the dealership that Ford had said on the second attempt to fix the problem if it still persisted that they would replace the catalytic convertor. Since then they had registered the incident a third time and still no fix. Since the third visit to a dealership we have had our engine light come on and off multiple times with no help from Ford in fixing the problem and our concern is that our county is starting emissions checks for 2026 and our truck will require an expensive fix to pass emissions at our cost and no help from Ford. We understand that the catalytic convertors are part of the emissions which come with an 80,000 mile federal warranty coverage but are being pushed around with no help insight from Ford. So come December of this year it will be 2yrs since we started having issues with the exhaust system. With the last light coming back on 10/15/25 and it just turn back off 10/28/25. I had tried to upload the pictures showing how many times our light has gone off and on the last 2yrs but it had told us multiple times your site was having an error.

I am made a formal demand for reimbursement of repair costs I incurred due to a known and recalled defect in my 2019 Ford F-150 3.5L EcoBoost (VIN: [XXX] ). Ford issued an official safety recall for defective cam phasers on this vehicle, classified under NHTSA Campaign Numbers 21B10, 21N03, and 21N08. These recalls specifically addressed the cam phaser rattle and required PCM reprogramming to adjust cam phaser control strategy. Where the reprogramming failed to resolve the defect, Ford authorized full cam phaser replacement under the recall. Despite my vehicle falling squarely within the scope of these campaigns, I was forced to pay $6,908.18 out-of-pocket to have the cam phasers replaced in order to restore safe and proper operation. The defect presented a significant safety concern, and the expense was directly attributable to Ford’s failure to address this issue. I am enclosing the following documentation as evidence: •Repair invoice showing the total paid ($6,908.18) •Proof of payment (credit card receipt / cancelled check) •Vehicle registration verifying ownership •Invoice from Enterprise Rental ($1,522.69) •Proof of payment (credit card receipt) Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, state consumer protection laws, and Ford’s own recall obligations, I am entitled to reimbursement for repairs covered by a safety recall. Accordingly, I demand full reimbursement of $6,908.18 and rental car, $1,522.69 within thirty (30) days of receipt of this letter. I have reached out to Ford Motor Company on September 26, 2025 and received no response. Any assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated. On January 27, 2023, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE23-001 to investigate allegations of A-pillar trim panel detachment on model year (MY) 2011-2019 Ford Explorer vehicles. At the time of opening, the office had received 164 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) reporting this failure. ODI has received 671 VOQs regarding this failure, including 1 alleged crash and 2 alleged injuries. Some consumers have reported that the failure occurred while they were driving at highway speeds, with the detached trim panel entering the path of travel of the vehicle behind them, requiring the driver of the following vehicle to take evasive action. It is noteworthy that motorists who experience this type of road hazard are less likely to accurately identify the subject vehicle the item detached from and report the event to the NHTSA. In its April 17, 2023 response to ODI’s information request, Ford provided 175 consumer complaints (including field reports) and 14,162 warranty claims related to A-pillar trim panel detachment. Ford relayed that the subject vehicles utilize a plastic A-pillar bracket, which is bolted to the vehicle structure during assembly. The A-pillar trim panel is attached to the bracket utilizing 7 plastic clips. Contributory factors which have been identified by Ford as leading to the subject defect include incomplete installation at the assembly plant, inadequate part stack up, damage to fasteners during installation, and failure to follow proper repair procedure during windshield replacements or other services. On January 19, 2024, Ford filed safety recall 24V-031 for MY 2011-2019 Ford Explorer vehicles to address the subject defect. In the Part 573 Safety Recall Report, Ford identified that a detached A-pillar trim panel can create a road hazard for other road users, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall remedy includes an inspection of the existing A-pillar trim panel and, if necessary, the replacement of the component. The remedy A-pillar trim panels will be installed with an additional adhesive for robustness and utilize an inspection procedure to ensure full engagement of all the retention clips during installation. In view of the recall action being taken by Ford, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
