THE FORD EDGE WAS BOUGHT NEW IN DECEMBER 2014, AND THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I DROVE THE CAR AT NIGHT. I LIVE IN A RURAL AREA IN NORTHEASTERN PA. WITH NO STREET LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE HAS "PROJECTION BEAM HEADLIGHTS" AND ON HIGH BEAM, THE LIGHT IS SO FOCUSED TO THE FRONT, THAT YOU LOSE SIGHT OF ANY ROAD YOU MAY BE TRYING TO TURN ONTO. YOU CAN VERY EASILY RUN OFF THE ROAD SINCE YOU LOOSE THE RELATIONSHIP OF WHERE YOU ARE DRIVING ON THE DARK ROAD. WITH THE LIGHTS ON LOW BEAM IT IS AS IF A BLACK SHADE COVERS THE TOP 2/3 OF THE WINDSHIELD MAKING IT EVEN MORE DIFFICULT TO SEE THE ROAD, TURNING OR NOT. IT IS BAD ENOUGH ON A SOMEWHAT LEVEL AREA AND IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE MORE THAN 10 YARDS AHEAD WHEN GOING DOWNHILL SO THAT IF ANOTHER VEHICLE IS APPROACHING AND YOU CHANGE TO LOW BEAM TOO SOON, YOU CAN'T SEE THE ROAD OR ANYTHING STANDING IN IT BETWEEN YOURSELF AND THE OTHER VEHICLE. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT HAPPENS IN THE FOG AND YOU TRY TO DRIVE WITH LOW BEAMS. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER, EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM I WAS HAVING, THEY "ADJUSTED THE HEADLIGHTS" ( THERE WAS LITTLE TO NO CHANGE IN THE DARK). I HAVE SINCE TAKEN SEVERAL PEOPLE FOR A RIDE IN THE VEHICLE AT NIGHT TO DEMONSTRATE THE HEADLIGHTS AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT MY DESCRIPTION DOESN'T DO THE PROBLEM JUSTICE. I HAVE ALSO TAKEN PICTURES FROM THE DRIVERS SEAT OUT THE WINDSHIELD TO SHOW TO ANYONE INTERESTED. THIS IS THE MOST DANGEROUS VEHICLE I HAVE EVER DRIVEN AT NIGHT. I HAD AFTERMARKET FOG LIGHTS INSTALLED THAT HELP SOMEWHAT BUT DOESN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I WOULD BE WILLING TO BET THAT A NUMBER OF SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENTS AT NIGHT ARE CAUSED BY THESE HEADLIGHTS. I DID CONTACT FORD MOTOR COMPANY, EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM AND WAS POLITELY TOLD "THIS IS THE WAY THE LIGHTS WORK". I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT MORE OWNERS LIVING IN RURAL AREAS HAVEN'T COMPLAINED. *TR

WHOEVER THOUGHT THESE ECE HEADLIGHTS ARE GREAT NEEDS TO GET OFF THE DRUGS. JUST BOUGHT A NEW 2014 FORD EDGE. 2 NIGHTS AGO WAS DRIVING ON A VERY HILLY ROAD. AS I WAS COMING UP FROM THE BOTTOM, THE CUTOFF LINE OF THESE THINGS KEPT ME FROM SEEING TWO PEOPLE WALKING IN MY LANE. WHEN THEY CAME INTO THE BEAM, I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AND SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF THEM AND ME. IF I END UP KILLING ANYONE BECAUSE I COULDN'T SEE THEM BECAUSE OF THESE CUTOFF POS'S, I'LL BE SEEING YOU GUYS IN COURT. I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU "BUILD AMERICAN" AND GET THESE CUTOFF THINGS OFF AMERICAN CARS. GIVE SOMEONE WHO WEARS GLASSES A PAIR THAT HAVE THE TOP HALF OF THE LENSES BLACKED OUT AND SEE HOW THEY LIKE IT. THIS IS JUST A VERY UNSAFE IDEA. LET THE EUROPEANS WORRY ABOUT THEIR PROBLEMS.[XXX] PARTS OF THIS DOCUMENT HAVE BEEN REDACTED TO PROTECT PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

On April 30, 2015, Ford expanded the recall to cover an additional 45,505 vehicles, including certain model year 2014-2015 Ford Transit Connect vehicles manufactured November 11, 2013, to August 29, 2014, 2014-2015 Ford Fiesta vehicles manufactured April 10, 2014, to June 17, 2014 and 2014 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured April 30, 2014, to May 21, 2014. Improper nickel plating of components within the fuel pump may result in the fuel pump failing.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the fuel pump fails, the vehicle may stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump, free of charge. The recall began on February 27, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14S30.

14V393000 · Power Train:axle Assembly:axle Shaft

Jul 2, 2014

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles manufactured September 2, 2010, to November 30, 2013; 2013-2014 Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS vehicles manufactured August 25, 2011, to November 30, 2013; and 2013-2014 Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT vehicles manufactured September 12, 2011, to November 30, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the halfshaft retention circlip may not have been properly installed, and as a result, the halfshaft may move outward and disengage from the linkshaft while driving and without prior warning.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the halfshaft and linkshaft become disengaged while driving, power will no longer be transmitted to the wheels, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. Additionally, if the parking brake is not applied before exiting the vehicle, the vehicle may roll away despite the transmission being placed in 'Park', increasing the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to make sure that the halfshaft is properly retained. If it is not, dealers will replace the linkshaft and also replace the halfshaft if it shows evidence of spline damage, free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S10.

PE15020 · Wheel Separation

Opened May 20, 2015 · Closed Jan 4, 2016

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Wheels:rim

On November 29, 2014, ODI received a complaint reporting the complete separation of an original equipment 22-inch alloy wheel rim mounted on the right front position of a model year 2014 Ford Edge vehicle (VOQ 10661278).The driver indicated that the right-front corner of the vehicle suddenly dropped while driving, causing the vehicle to go off the road to the right and into a field. The right-front wheel rim was found to have broken into two pieces. The owner said that there was no prior warning or wheel related problems with the vehicle. The vehicle had been driven approximately 8,500 miles at the time of the incident. On May 29, 2015 ODI sent an information request to Ford asking for detailed information related to the specific 22 inch alloy wheel used on the Edge as well as any peer vehicles which used the same type of wheel. On July 17, 2015 Ford provided ODI with the requested information. Ford's search showed that the single incident reported to ODI is the only instance of a wheel failure on the subject or peer vehicles. The failed wheel was sent to the National Transportation Service Board (NTSB) materials analysis laboratory for examination. The NTSB determined that the wheel failed because of a severe impact that caused a crack that rapidly propagated around the circumference of the wheel, The rim fracture surface had a predominantly rough appearance consistent with an overstress fracture (rapid fracture)There were no abnormalities or unique features associated with the fracture initiation site.Metallurgical analysis of the rim found that the material was within specification and no anomalies were identified that could have contributed to the failure.See the full NTSB report for more details.Based on the absence of additional failures and the results of the wheel material testing and failure analysis, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The Agency will continue to monitor complaints and other information relating to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles and take further action in the future if warranted. The following VOQ is associated with this investigation: 10661278
