The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the brake pedal would intermittently harden upon depression without warning. The contact stated that the failure made it difficult to stop the vehicle in a reasonable amount of time. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the brake master cylinder was replaced. After the repair, the contact stated that the braking system had slightly improved; however, the failure persisted. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000. The consumer stated took the vehicle back to the dealer who determined it was the booster and replaced it.

The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that as she depressed the brake pedal two more times the brake pedal went to the floorboard but responded. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the brake booster had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for repair under the Customer Satisfaction Program Number: 13N02; however, the dealer informed the contact that the vehicle would be repaired at her own expense because the VIN was not included in the Customer Satisfaction Program. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that they could not assist due to where the vehicle was manufactured. The manufacturer referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 144,000.

I have had to replace the brake booster in my car twice now. I have an hour commute to work and the last time, the brakes failed coming home from work. Luckily I was about 10 miles from home but I fail to understand why that part has failed twice now. Had I been in heavy traffic, it could have been deadly for myself and others.

On 8-15-21 as I was driving, I was suddenly unable to break properly and had to depress the peddle almost down to the floor to engage the breaks. This happened one isolated time one month prior but went away. I had the car towed to Walnut Creek CA Ford for service where after multiplier test drives replicated the problem, flushed the break line and determined I needed a new HCU because of a sticking valve. I researched the issue and discovered this exact issue was the subject of a Ford recall in 2019 but of other models not including mine. I called Ford to see if they would cover the cost since it was a safety issue that they recognized in a very large recent recall that was the result of over 25 accidents and multiple deaths. Ford refused to cover the cost. NHTSA should be aware of this safety issue because it is effecting more cars than covered.

In June of 2018 with 48,182 miles on my vehicle, I experienced the brake pedal very hard to push some of the time, and then other times, the brakes would not stop and you could hear air come out from the brake pedal. Realizing this was a hazard for myself and other drivers, I took my car into a Ford Dealership. They stated that there was a recall on the brake booster and replaced the part free of charge. In November of 2020 with 80,060 miles on my vehicle, the exact thing happened again. I contacted the Ford Dealership, they stated there is no other recall and because it had been over 12 months from the first replacement that they could not replace it free of charge, so I paid a shop over $500 to replace the brake booster again. Now, August 17th, 2021 less than 9 months later and only 10,000 more miles on my vehicle it has happened again! The Ford Dealership recommended that I contact Ford's corporate office. Ford Corporate told me that they will not cover the cost to repair my vehicle for the 3rd time and will not provide the part free of charge. This is an obvious issue with their brake booster part or a deeper issue that isn't being addressed, leaving vehicle owners, like myself, at risk of getting into an accident due to a faulty brake system.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles manufactured September 2, 2010, to November 30, 2013; 2013-2014 Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS vehicles manufactured August 25, 2011, to November 30, 2013; and 2013-2014 Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT vehicles manufactured September 12, 2011, to November 30, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the halfshaft retention circlip may not have been properly installed, and as a result, the halfshaft may move outward and disengage from the linkshaft while driving and without prior warning.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the halfshaft and linkshaft become disengaged while driving, power will no longer be transmitted to the wheels, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. Additionally, if the parking brake is not applied before exiting the vehicle, the vehicle may roll away despite the transmission being placed in 'Park', increasing the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to make sure that the halfshaft is properly retained. If it is not, dealers will replace the linkshaft and also replace the halfshaft if it shows evidence of spline damage, free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S10.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Edge vehicles manufactured from September 2, 2010, through April 25, 2013, and equipped with 2.0L engines. The fuel line pulse damper metal housing may crack as a result of an improper manufacturing process. A cracked fuel line pulse damper housing may result in a combination of fuel odor, weepage, or a continuous leak while the fuel system is pressurized.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel line with one that does not have a damper, free of charge. The safety recall began on February 25, 2014. Owners may contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 13S13. IMPORTANT: This recall supersedes recall 12V-438. All vehicles that have been remedied under the previous recall need to have the current remedy applied.

Ford is recalling certain 2012 Edge vehicles manufactured from September 2, 2010, through October 31, 2011, equipped with 2.0L engines. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this investigation on September 28, 2016 based on allegations that the door ajar light located on the instrument cluster stays on all of the time even when all doors are closed and fully latched on 2011-2013 model year Ford Edge vehicles.When the light is illuminated continuously, vehicle occupants cannot be certain if any of the doors are properly latched.Reported safety consequences as a result of this issue include doors opening while driving (because doors were initially not latched properly), doors cannot be locked while driving, and the interior dome lights staying on continuously.
