On days when it rains or the weather is slightly cold/dewy, the Ford Bronco seems to make a screech/horn-like sound only when reversing. I found some online forum links (listed below) where other Ford users seem to describe the similar issue we're experiencing. This is the second dealership that we have taken the vehicle to be serviced for the issue, but they have both stated there is nothing they can do because the issue has not been issued as a recall. [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] The first dealership visited for service was: Metro Ford Sales & Service, Inc. Address: 6455 S Western Ave, Chicago, IL 60636 The second dealership visited for service was: Napleton Ford of Oak Lawn Address: Address: 6100 W 95th St, Oak Lawn, IL 60453 The attachment includes the most recent appointment visit. Unfortunately, I cannot provide an invoice at this time because the vehicle is still at the dealership (10 days after taking it in). I visited the dealership yesterday (08/12/2024) where I was informed that the the service technician working on my car is in the hospital. Had I not visited, then I probably would not have known this, and the other service technician I spoke to said they could not share any more details since they were not part of the servicing for my car. Martin Garcia (mgarc520@ford.com) is supposed to be the middle-man between me and the dealership to help me address the issue, but I have not received information from his end either. When I called the Ford's number using (866) 631-3788 to get a hold of Martin Garcia, someone else assisted and I was told that he would call me tomorrow (08/14/2024) to give him an update on what the dealership shared with me. My 2021 Ford Bronco Sport Big Bend had an acute and complete power failure. I stopped for a red traffic light and was waiting to turn and my brake popped under my foot and my vehicle lost all power. It would not restart and I was broke down in the middle lane of traffic with no ability to have hazards or any kind of power. This is with approximately 27,000 miles on the vehicle that I just recently purchased. As a single lady with her quad amputee son in the car, this was very scary and certainly concerning. Ford states my vehicle has no recalls, yet this seems to be a regularly occurring issue with this specific make and model. Can this possibly be looked into and more vehicles added to this recall? Thank God I wasn’t actually in motion when I lost power. I had to have my vehicle towed to my home and now I have nothing to drive and am told my 3year/36,000 mile warranty expired a few months ago due to age, not mileage. Ford should’ve reported this, but I figured it needs to be heard again and again until this problem is corrected and unsuspecting motorists aren’t left stranded or put into any unnecessary danger at the hand of a vehicle manufacturer.

A few weeks ago, my Ford Bronco Sport (Big Bend) starting jolting when I made slow turns to the right. It has since increased the jolting/seizing with a grinding noise since it began. My car has been looked at for this issue in which Chastang Ford replaced both frontal control arms stating this was causing the jolting. However, my car continued to jolt/seize on slow right turns. I took it back to Chastang Ford, and they said the RDU fluid needs replaced along with the hose. Their labor costs were high, so I got a second opinion at FireStone. The mechanic at FireStone told me the RDU needs to be assessed and gave me information about a recall for this issue. This recall is not assigned to my vehicle, but it is believed that is the problem. Reference#: 21V011000, Ford Recall#: 21S02 It was determined by the service assistance that my car didn't come from the plant this recall was initiated for, but it's still the problem. I called Legacy Ford (who I bought the car from), and they stated they would have to replace the hose and fluid. However, this wouldn't have happened if there was enough lubricant to begin with which is what this recall is addressing. I would like this issue to be addressed by NHTSA on other Ford Bronco Sports dealing with this issue as well as Ford as it is also not covered under my extended warranty.

Attempted to start car, screen behind steering wheel went black. Tried again, car went through several error messages but would not start. Gear shift and other lights flashed. Hazards did not work. No warnings prior to failure. Only after. This is the third time this has happened. The first two in busy intersections where the car stalled then went through multiple error messages. This time, thankfully, the problem occurred in my driveway. We will be towing back to matt bowers ford in the morning. Again. The previous times they ran checks, drove it and said they could not replicate the issue. Last time they put dielectric grease on the connectors. When I contacted ford I was given a case number and told I would be contacted in one business day. I was not. When I contacted ford again I was informed my case was closed and if I was concerned about the dealer’s work I should go elsewhere. Problem is the other dealer will charge me if my dealer messed up. They are also unable to look at my car for at least three weeks. The battery has been replaced once sine I bought the car in August 2021. The rear axle has also been replaced. I have brought it in for all recalls ( multiple) and kept up with recommended maintenance.

Was able to put car in park. Tried to restart. Multiple flashing warnings. Was able to get hazards on this time. Had car towed back to dealer. They are calling Ford. Second time this happened at busy intersection. This time at interstate on ramp. Bus driver attempting to turn got out of bud and offered to push the car but we could not get it in neutral. Tow driver had towed in a bronco sport right before us with the same issue. Someone is going to be seriously injured. Service guy showed me record of previous error messages. There were about twenty. I have a video of the screens flashing today.

First, the car was brought in 6/2/24 to take care of the open recall. I am still receiving notices but the dealership assured me the recall dealing with the battery was addressed. I came to a stop at a red light and the car shut down (all screens black). I attempted to restart. Car would not start but the radio, wipers, and screens flashing warnings intermittently came on. Could not turn on hazard lights. I had to climb out of the passenger side to avoid traffic and then attempted to direct traffic around the car. (Red light is in a curve making it difficult to see stopped vehicle.). Waited about 30 minutes for my husband. He was able to start the car and pull out of the road. We were not comfortable driving it so had it towed to dealer. Prior to the shutdown there were no warnings. The car was running well prior to this incident. It is still at the dealer. They told me battery drain, communication issues, and that they could see the error messages that flashed after the shutdown. The car was purchased in August 2021. It has 15,479 miles on it and most recently is driven 5 miles per or less during the week. I can’t find the date but the battery has been changed once already. Had this happened on some of the other rides I drive, I would have been part of a terrible crash.

GPS does not work reliably. Will often show the car in a completely different area than where you actually are. Often parking the car, turning the car off and letting it rest for a few minutes prior to restarting with reset the GPS. Is a hazard if you are trying to follow directions when the GPS suddenly stops working.

2RQ24014 · Loss Of Motive Power
Opened Nov 15, 2024 · Closed Oct 10, 2025
Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Electrical SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V Battery
On January 31, 2024, The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened a Preliminary Evaluation (PE24002) to investigate loss of motive power allegations in model year (MY) 2021 Ford Bronco Sport vehicles. Consumers reported a loss of engine power accompanied by complete electrical system failure either while driving or after stopping at a traffic light or stop sign. The vehicles generally could not be restarted, and the incidents were commonly diagnosed by dealerships to a failed 12-Volt (12V) battery. On April 12, 2024, Ford issued safety recall 24V-267 covering 456,565 MY 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sport and MY 2022-2023 Ford Maverick vehicles. The recall addressed loss of motive power resulting from sudden degradation of the 12V battery during the drive cycle. The recall remedy consisted of software updates to the body control module and the powertrain control module. The updated software aimed to provide warning to consumers when the battery is failing and inhibit certain vehicle functions which can lead to loss of motive power incidents. Additionally, Ford removed the existing 12V Enhanced Flooded Battery (EFB) as both a service component for the subject vehicles and original equipment for newly built Bronco Sport vehicles (during MY 2024 production), replacing it with a more robust absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery. The same AGM battery had been incorporated into Ford Maverick production in late 2022. Following recall 24V-267, ODI received loss of motive power complaints in vehicles that had previously received Ford’s software-based remedy. Consumers reported that they did not receive warnings related to the 12V battery or the vehicle’s electrical system before the loss of power. On November 15, 2024, ODI opened Recall Query (RQ24014) to assess the effectiveness of the 24V-267 recall remedy. On January 19, 2025, Ford issued recall 25V-019 covering 272,817 MY 2021-2023 Bronco Sport and MY 2022-2023 Ford Maverick vehicles. The new recall addressed the same hazard as 24V-267 but required replacement of the existing 12V battery with an AGM battery as the remedy. Ford reported that following the opening of RQ24014, it evaluated several field-returned 12V batteries, and determined that EFBs produced by battery supplier Camel potentially contained internal manufacturing defects causing loss of motive power. Ford further concluded that the software updates provided in the 24V-267 recall remedy were unable to detect battery failures quickly enough to avoid loss of motive power. Vehicles previously within the scope of recall 24V-267, but outside of the scope of recall 25V-019, are equipped with EFBs produced by a different battery supplier (Clarios). When recall 25V-019 was issued, Ford had not identified any Clarios EFBs exhibiting the same failure mode as the Camel EFBs. In light of Ford’s recall action, ODI is closing this Recall Query. The agency will continue to monitor loss of motive power complaints in Bronco Sport vehicles equipped with Clarios EFBs and reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. PE24002 · Loss Of Motive Power
Opened Jan 31, 2024 · Closed Aug 19, 2024
Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Electrical SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V Battery
On January 31, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE24002 to investigate allegations of loss of motive power in model year (MY) 2021 Ford Bronco Sport vehicles. At that time, ODI had received 31 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs), with consumers commonly reporting a loss of engine power accompanied by complete electrical system failure which occurred either while driving, or after coming to a stop. The investigation revealed that MY 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sport and certain MY 2022-2023 Ford Maverick vehicles are equipped with a 12V enhanced flooded battery (EFB), which may experience an abrupt failure during a drive cycle. The failure is the result of an internal corrosion issue, which is influenced by long exposure to high under-hood temperatures. If the sudden loss of 12V battery voltage is not detected by the vehicle’s battery management sensor, the vehicle can experience a loss of power event without providing any warning to the driver. Following a loss of power due to battery failure, the vehicle may be without all 12V accessories including hazard lights and typically will not be able to be restarted. In its March 2024 response to ODI’s information request, Ford provided 367 customer complaints (including field reports, lawsuits, and legal claims) and 1005 warranty claims relating to the alleged defect. When combining ODI and manufacturer failure report data, there are 1,368 unique VINs represented across MY 2021-2023 Ford Bronco Sport vehicles. One of the VOQs submitted to NHTSA reported a minor rear-end collision resulting from a loss of power event. Included within Ford’s complaints were a reported single-vehicle collision and a vehicle fire which occurred following a loss of power event at a traffic light (fire cause and origin was not determined). Additionally, across ODI and manufacturer data, there were 12 allegations of either acid leaking from the 12V battery or smoke emitting from the battery area within the engine compartment. On April 12, 2024, Ford submitted recall 24V267 for MY 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sport and certain MY 2022-2023 Ford Maverick vehicles (total population 456,565). The recall remedy provides updated calibrations to the body control module and powertrain control module. Ford indicated that the update will result in improved detection of 12V battery state of charge during drive cycles and will provide notification to the driver if the battery significantly degrades while driving. Additionally, Ford has replaced the EFB with an absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery as both a service component for the subject vehicles and as original equipment for Bronco Sport vehicles with production dates beginning in mid-March 2024. The warranty claim rate for peer vehicles equipped with an AGM battery is substantially lower than that for the subject vehicle population. In view of the recall action being taken by Ford, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.
