I HAVE A 2015 DODGE DART SE AND ITS BEEN NOTHING BUT ISSUES! IN 2016 I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 65MPH AND ALL SUDDEN MY [XXX] CAR SHUT OFF COMPLETELY! I HAD TO IMMEDIATELY TURN IT BACK ON AND SHIFT INTO 4TH GEAR BECAUSE MY CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN WHILE AND I HAD TO PULL OVER! IM SO SICK OF THIS MODEL AND AFTER READING ABOUT OTHERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES ITS JUST RIDICULOUS AND DANGEROUS! I GOT IT CHECKED AND THEY SAID EVERYTHING LOOKED OKAY AND THEY DIDN'T FIND ANY ISSUES. SO CARS JUST TURN OFF BY THEMSELVES WHILE DRIVING FOR NO REASON?! FAST FORWARD TO 2017, THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON FOR THE FIRST TIME AND I TAKE IT TO A DODGE DEALERSHIP IN KILLEEN TX AND I FIND OUT IT WAS THE THERMOSTAT AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG AND THAT I COULD DRIVE TO ALASKA AND BACK WITH NO ISSUES. SO I LEAVE AND A DAY LATER THE ENGINE LIGHT IS GONE LIKE IT WAS NEVER THERE. AND HERE IT IS 2018 AND THE [XXX] ENGINE LIGHT IS BACK ON AGAIN. I TAKE IT TO FIRESTONE ON BASE AND GUESS WHAT THE [XXX] THEY TELL ME?! YOU GUESSED RIGHT! THE [XXX] THERMOSTAT. AT THIS POINT I'M JUST PISSED AND FRUSTRATED AND THEY TELL ME I'M LOOKING AT A $500 FIX AND THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE DODGE DART! WHY WAS I NOT TOLD THIS WHEN THE CAR WAS PURCHASED! OH AND IT GETS BETTER. ON 25MARCH2018 I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 60MPH AND YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED....DING DING DING RIGHT AGAIN! MY [XXX] PIECE OF [XXX] DODGE DART TURNS THE [XXX] OFF! I DON'T KNOW IF THERE'S A [XXX] RECALL OR NOT BUT I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY DODGE DART OWNER WHO IS HAVING THIS ISSUE AND I SHOULD'VE BEEN TOLD ABOUT THESE DANGEROUS ASS PROBLEMS BEFORE I POURED MY HARD EARNED MONEY INTO A [XXX] DEATHTRAP. I'M CALLING THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE [XXX] NEEDS TO HAPPEN. I'M NOT TRYING TO DIE LET ALONE HAVE MY BABIES IN THE [XXX] CAR AND SOMETHING HAPPEN. DO NOT PURCHASE ANY DODGE DARTS IF YOU WANT TO LIVE! INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

I WAS TRYING TO PULL OUT OF AN PARKING SPACE THAT WAS ANGLED UP AND WHILE DOING THAT I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK. IT HAD BEEN PARKED FOR 30 MINUTES. ALL I COULD HEAR WHEN PRESSING ON THE BRAKES WAS AIR. IT WOULD NOT WORK UNLESS PUTTING EXTREME PRESSURE ON IT.

THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN THE VEHICLE DOES NOT WORK AT ALL, WHAT-SO-EVER. MY VEHICLE HAS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION SO WITHOUT A WORKING EMERGENCY BRAKE, I CANNOT PARK THE CAR ON ANY SORT INCLINE. I'VE SEEN ON NUMEROUS ONLINE FORUMS THAT MANY DODGE DART OWNERS HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH THEIR EMERGENCY BRAKES AS WELL, IN PARTICULAR, DODGE DART VEHICLES WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. BASED ON FEEDBACK I'VE READ ON OTHER FORUMS, IT SEEMS THAT THE MANUFACTURER DIDN'T PROPERLY INSTALL THE CABLE THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IS ATTACHED TOO. I HAD ONE INSTANCE WHERE MY VEHICLE ALMOST ROLLED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC DUE TO THE PARKING BRAKE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. I HAD ANOTHER INSTANCE WHERE I HAD PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE IN A CROWDED SHOPPING CENTER WITH PEDESTRIANS PASSING THROUGH THE PARKING LOT WHERE THE VEHICLE STARTED ROLLING BACK. I BARELY HAVE OVER 45,000 MILES AND I'VE OWNED CARS WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS SINCE I STARTED DRIVING OVER 20 YEARS AGO. THIS IS THE FIRST INSTANCE I'VE EVER HAD ANY ISSUES WITH THE EMERGENCY BREAK, AND I'VE DRIVEN CARS THAT WERE MUCH OLDER THAN THE ONE I OWN NOW. IT SEEMS THIS IS A MAJOR FLAW IN THE 2015 DODGE DART THAT CHRYSLER FAILS TO ACKNOWLEDGE. I HOPE THAT THE NHTSA CAN TAKE ACTION UPON CHRYSLER TO AVOID ANY POTENTIAL FUTURE INJURIES DUE TO THE FACT THAT CHRYSLER DIDN'T PROPERLY ATTACH THE CABLES IN THE EMERGENCY/PARKING BRAKES FOR THE 2015 MANUAL DODGE DART MODELS.

WHEN DRIVING THE DART, THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF WHILE IN DRIVE. THE DEALER IS SAYING THAT IT IS A SAFETY SWITCH FOR LOW OIL. HOWEVER THERE IS NO OIL LIGHT TURNING ON ON THE DASH BOARD AND THERE IS OIL LIFE REMAINING ON THE DIGITAL DISPLAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES WITH NO RESOLVE. THE DEALER HAS EVEN WENT AS FAR AS TO SAY "WELL, YOU BOUGHT A DODGE DART". WHEN WE PURCHASED THE DART, WE BOUGHT THE MAINTENANCE PACKAGE, INCLUDING OIL CHANGES. WE USE THIS PACKAGE ALL THE TIME AND THERE WOULD BE NO EXCUSE TO BE LOW ON OIL THAT FAST IN A NEWER VEHICLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED A HALF DOZEN TIMES, SPEEDS VARYING FROM DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT (5-10MPH) , TO DOWN A STREET(35-45MPH) THANKFULLY NEVER ON A HIGHWAY. WE ARE FEARFUL FOR THE DAY THIS HAPPENS WITH CHILDREN IN THE CAR. WE HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH DAIMLER CHRYSLER AND THEY HAVE NOT HELPED. ONE MECHANIC HAS TOLD ME THIS HAPPENS MORE OFTEN THAT YOU WOULD THINK. BUT STILL NO RESOLVE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 DODGE DART. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATOR TO SPECIFY WHEN THE OIL WAS LOW. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE STALLED MORE THAN ONCE AND THE FAILURE WAS PROGRESSING INTERMITTENTLY. THE OWNER'S MANUAL HAD SPECIFIC GUIDELINES THAT WERE IN DIRECT CONFLICT WITH WHAT THE CONTACT WAS EXPERIENCING. THE DEALER (MCKAY'S DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM FIAT, 2020 FRONTAGE RD S, WAITE PARK, MN 56387, (320) 252-7170) PROVIDED AN OIL CHANGE, INDICATED THAT AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WAS NEEDED, AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO CHECK THE OIL LEVELS EVERY 500 MILES. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THIS WAS NOT A PERMANENT SOLUTION AND WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHEN THE LEVELS WERE LOW. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED NO SOLUTION. WHEN BRAKING, BRAKES FEELS HARD AND REQUIRE SIGNIFICANTLY MORE FORCE TO ACTIVATE. A HISSING SOUND IS OCCURRING AND BRAKE FORCE WILL OFTEN NOT ENGAGE UNTIL HALFWAY INTO THE PETAL. THE ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED BY MY MECHANIC, BUT ACCORDING TO HIM AND SOME RESEARCH I'VE DONE ONLINE, THIS SEEMS EXACTLY LIKE AN ISSUE WITH THE DODGE DART 2013 RECALL FOR THE SAME PART. AS TAKEN FROM DODGE'S SITE: THE BRAKE BOOSTER ON YOUR VEHICLE MAY EXPERIENCE ENGINE OIL MIGRATION FROM THE VACUUM PUMP, THROUGH THE VACUUM SUPPLY TUBE, AND INTO THE BRAKE BOOSTER. PROLONGED BRAKE BOOSTER DIAPHRAGM EXPOSURE TO ENGINE OIL COULD CAUSE THE DIAPHRAGM TO FAIL. THIS COULD LEAD TO A LOSS OF BRAKE BOOSTER ASSIST AND/OR AN AIR LEAKING SOUND. A LOSS OF BRAKE BOOSTER ASSIST COULD REQUIRE THE DRIVER TO APPLY ADDITIONAL BRAKE PEDAL FORCE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE LACK OF BRAKE BOOSTER ASSIST COULD CHANGE THE BRAKING CHARACTERISTICS OF THE VEHICLE AND CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING. I'M PUTTING IN THIS COMPLAINT WITH THE HOPE TO AVOID OTHERS FROM ACCIDENTS AND ULTIMATELY TO HOPE TO GET A REFUND FROM THE SERVICE AND PARTS I HAD TO GET INTO MY CURRENT CAR. I RECOGNIZE THAT THE DOT IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR A REFUND BUT WOULD BE INSTRUMENTAL IN HAVING DODGE ISSUE A RECALL IF ENOUGH OTHER 2015 DODGE DART OWNERS COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS AS WELL. THANK YOU

RQ25002 · Recall 19V-293 Post Remedy Failures

Opened Jun 30, 2025 · Closed Dec 12, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:automatic Transmission:lever And Linkage:floor Shift; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod:retaining Fasteners/hardware

On June 30, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ25002 to investigate and review the effectiveness of Recall 19V-293. This recall was intended to address deterioration and detachment of shifter cable bushings by replacing them with an improved bushing that is less susceptible to deterioration from chemicals, oils, and solvents in MY2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions and manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automotive US LLC (FCA US). If the shifter cable becomes detached from the transmission, the transmission gear position may not match the driver’s intended gear selection. This mismatch could result in unintended vehicle movement or rollaway when the driver believes the transmission is in PARK, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury. ODI has received sixty-three (63) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) alleging worn or misadjusted shifter cables and/or shifter cable detachments in subject vehicles that had already received the remedy for Recall 19V-293. Complainants reported incidents of bushing deterioration and detachment, resulting in gear-selection mismatch despite the prior recall repair, raising concerns regarding the effectiveness and durability of the implemented remedy and the adequacy of the recall. ODI’s investigation sought to determine whether the remedy used in recall 19V-293 adequately addressed the cause of the failure and whether other vehicles using the same bushing design might be affected. In response, FCA US and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (Dura) determined that the repair for Recall 19V-293 did not sufficiently address the issue, and therefore, a safety defect exists in the subject vehicle population. As a result, FCA US and Dura initiated the following recall actions: ·         Recall 25V-674 (FCA US) is intended to address MY 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles repaired under 19V-293 or otherwise equipped with suspect service parts. Remedy is under development. ·         Recall 25E-065 (Dura) is intended to address the defect at the equipment level by recalling affected gearshift control cable assemblies distributed as service components. Remedy is under development. The recalls initiated by FCA US (25V-674), and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (25E-065) were received prior to ODI sending an Information Request (IR) letter to FCA. These two recalls seem to resolve the concerns that prompted investigation RQ25002 by replacing the previously recalled and service-supplied shifter cable assembly with an improved design, currently under development. The vehicle scope concern identified in this query was addressed by the new recalls including all Model Year 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles produced and equipped with the affected shifter cable assembly. Accordingly, ODI is closing Investigation RQ25002. The agency will continue to monitor field performance and recall completion data to evaluate the effectiveness of the new remedy. ODI reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
