AFTER THE BATTER LIGHT COMES ON THE ONLY THING I CAN DO IS STEER, THE CAR STARTS TO SLOW DOWN, I CAN'T EXCEL AT ALL, RAIDO AND ALL LIGHTS CUT OFF AS WELL. ONCE THE CAR COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP, I'LL START IT BACK UP SOMETIMES IT'LL START RIGHT BACK UP, OR I'LL HAVE TO HOLD THE KEY DOWN A FEW SECONDS FOR IT TO START. THE CAR HAVE STOPPED ON ME WHILE DRIVING MOVE THAN 5 TIMES. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND THE FIRST FEW TIME THEY SAID AFTER THEY RAN ALL OF THE TEST THEY COULDN'T GET THE VEHICLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. ANOTHER TIME THEY ASKED COULD THEY KEEP THE VEHICLE OVER NIGHT AND HAVE A MECHANIC DRIVE THE CAR HOME AND BACK TO WORK. THE NEXT DAY WHEN I WENT TO GO PICK UP MY VEHICLE THEY SAID THEY KINDA-SORTA GOT THE CAR TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM THOSE WERE THERE EXACT WORDS. THEN THEY PUT A MONITOR IN MY CAR THEY TOLD ME TO PRESS THE BUTTON WHILE I WAS DRIVING IF THE CAR WAS TO GO OUT SO THEY CAN RECORD THE PROBLEM. THE MONITOR WAS IN MY CAR FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND MY CAR DIDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. A FEW WEEKS AFTER THEY TOOK THE MONITOR OUT MY CAR CUT OFF ON ME AGAIN AND TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP AND THEY RAN THE SAME TEST AND THEY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT. ANOTHER TIME MY CAR WENT OFF I TOOM IT BACK TO THE SHOP AND IT JUST SO HAPPENED THAT MY CAR WAS HALFWAY EMPTY ON OIL AND THEY'RE TELLING ME THAT MY CAR IS CUTTING OFF BECAUSE IT NEEDS OIL AND THEY WERE GOING TO MONITOR THE OIL. SO THEY SENT ME BACK ON THE ROAD AND TOLD ME TO COME BACK WHEN MY CAR GOT TO A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF MILES THEY HAD WROTE DOWN , WHEN MY CAR GOT TO THAT AMOUNT OF MILES THAT THEY HAVE WROTE DOWN I TOOK MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND I TOLD HIM TO TELL ME IF I NEEDED AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY TOLD ME I DIDNT. PEOPLE AT THE DEALER AND AT SEARS (DAYS AFTER I WENT FOR A NAIL IN ONE TIRE FROM BEHIND) SAID THE SAME TO CONTACT MANUFACTURER AND THAT IT SHOULD HAVE WARRANTY. IT IS WEIRD SINCE I NEVER EVER OVER INFLATED THE TIRES, THEY ARE ALWAYS AT THE RECOMMENDED AIR PRESSURE AND NEVER HIT SOME HUGE POT HOLE OR SOMETHING LIKE IT.

NOVEMBER 1 2015 WHILE TRAVELING ON PARKWAY 376 IN PITTSBURGH PENNSYLVANIA . I BECAME TRAPPED BEHIND A PORTION OF A TREE THAT HAD MADE IT'S WAY IN THE LANE I ENTER THE PARKWAY. AFTER BEING FORCED TO STOP, AND PUT HAZARDS ON AND ATTEMPT TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. I WAS REAR ENDED BY A GMC ENVOY TRAVELING AT LEAST 55 MPH , FORCING ME INTO TREE I WAS TRYING TO AVOID .MY PASSENGER AND I LEFT IN EMS VEHICLES, MY CAR WAS RETURNED TO MONROEVILLE DODGE FOR REPAIRS. AFTER GETTING MY CAR BACK I NOTICED WHEN IT RAIN, OR SNOW THE TRUNK OF CAR WOULD GET WET. WHENEVER OPERATING THE CAR IN SPEEDS 35 MPH OR MORE , YOU COULD FEEL AIR COMING THROUGH BACKSEAT. AFTER RETURNING THE CAR TO DODGE FOR INSPECTION, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY FOUND NOTHING TO CAUSE PROBLEM. CAR WAS INSPECTED AND PASS WITH ONLY REQUIRING 2 REAR TIRES. AUGUST 2 2016 , WHILE AT A STOP SIGN, A DRIVER DRIVING A 2005 HONDA PILOT WITH ORIGINAL GRILL , REAR ENDED THE CAR, AT THIS TIME I DROVE MY CAR HOME, IN THE MORNING I NOTICED TIRES WERE BENT OUTWARD. AFTER FILING A CLAIM WITH THE DRIVER"S INSURANCE CO, I LEARNED THAT THE CAR WAS NOT ALIGNED AFTER REAR END HIT ON NOV 1 2015 THAT CAUSED CAR TO SLAM INTO THE TREE ON PARKWAY. AFTER THE INSURED FIX ONLY BODY , FOUND NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR MECHANICAL DAMAGE, ONCE AGAIN THE CAR WAS REPAIR WITHOUT WHEEL ALIGNMENT BY MONROEVILLE DODGE AND OFFERED BACK FOR OPERATING ON ROAD. AFTER TAKING THE REPAIR STATEMENT TO OTHER AUTO BODY REPAIR SHOPS, AND PICTURES OF BOTH REAR END ACCIDENTS , I WAS ADVISED THE CAR COULD HAVE SUSTAINED FRAME DAMAGES FROM NOV 1 2015, MAKING IT UNABLE TO BE PROPERLY ALIGN AND UNSAFE FOR OPERATING. I'M CURRENTLY STILL IN A RENTAL CAR MY CAR IS STILL AT DODGE WITH NO WHEEL ALIGNMENT REPAIRS AFTER NEITHER ACCIDENT . DODGE HAS TOLD BOTH INSURANCE COMPANIES ,(STATE FARM NOV 1 2015, AND GEICO AUG 2, 2016) WHEEL ALLIGNMENT WAS NOT NEEDED. PLEASE HELP

DRIVING HOME FROM MY PARENTS HOUSE MAYBE A MILE AWAY FROM HOME AIR PRESSURE GAUGE LIGHT ILLUMINATED WE LIVE LESS THAN A MILE AWAY FROM LOCAL GAS STATION THAT HAS AIR PUMP. WE DROVE MY WIFE AND THREE KIDS TO THE GAS STATION TO GET AIR IN THE DEFLATED TIRED AS SOON AS THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. AS WE APPROACHED THE GAS STATION LITERALLY 150 FT AWAY, THE CAR STARTS TO SHAKE AND RUMBLE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE LEFT TIRE. JUST HAD THE CAR AT THE DEALER LAST SATURDAY WITH NO MENTION OF ISSUES WITH THE TIRES. UPON INSPECTION THE SIDEWALL OF THE KUMHO KH25 TIRES WAS CRACKING. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION YOU CAN SEE NOTICEABLE WEAR ON THE SIDE WALLS OF THE OTHER TIRES. CAR STARTED TO RUMBLE FOR ANOTHER 20-30 FEET BEFORE WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND EVALUATE. THIS IS PRETTY UNACCEPTABLE TO ME KUHMO TIRES HAVE APPARENTLY HAD A PRETTY BAD REPUTATION HERE IN THE US WHY ARE MANUFACTURES STILL USING THIS COMPANY?!?! THIS IS A DAILY DRIVER I AM ON THE SAME ROADS CONSTANTLY THE ONLY VARIANT IS ONE SET OF TRACKS THAT I TRAVEL OVER ONCE A WEEK...THERE IS NO WAY THIS WAS CAUSED FROM NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ON A CAR THAT HAS 9K MILES ON IT.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, AT NIGHT, WHICH HAD A SPEED LIMIT MARKED AT 25 MILES PER HOUR. THERE WERE A COUPLE OF POTHOLES THAT I NOTICED SO I DECREASED MY SPEED AND WAS GOING BETWEEN 15 AND 20 MILES PER HOUR TRYING TO AVOID ANY THAT I SAW. I ENDED UP HITTING ONE WHICH WAS UNAVOIDABLE, AND HARD TO SEE SINCE THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AT NIGHT; I WAS GOING APPROX. 20 MILES PER HOUR (5 UNDER THE RECOMMENDED SPEED). WHEN THE CAR HIT THE POTHOLE THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE POPPED, THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE SIDEWALL HAD BEEN BLOWN OUT. ABOUT A MONTH LATER THE SAME TIRE HAD A SIDEWALL BLOWOUT AGAIN AFTER HITTING A POTHOLE, ONCE AGAIN AT NIGHT TIME WHILE GOING 35 MILES PER HOUR ON A ROAD THAT WAS MARKED 35 MILES PER HOUR, THE RIM WAS ALSO DAMAGED IN THIS INCIDENT. ANOTHER INCIDENT RECENTLY HAPPENED EARLIER IN JUNE 2015 WHERE I WAS MERGING INTO TRAFFIC AND DRIVING APPROX. 35 MILES PER HOUR AND WHEN I TURNED MY HEAD BACK AROUND THE POTHOLE HAD ALREADY BEEN UNAVOIDABLE, THIS TIME IT WAS THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE. THIS RIM WAS ALSO DAMAGED DURING THE INCIDENT, AND A WEEK AFTER I RECEIVED MY CAR BACK FROM THE DEALERSHIP I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THEN MY TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE HAD WENT OUT. I HAD NOT HIT ANY HOLES, I WAS JUST CASUALLY DRIVING DOWN A MAIN ROAD WHILE ON MY WAY TO WORK. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED IN LATE JANUARY 2015, AND I HAVE BEEN DRIVING DOWN THE SAME ROADS AS MY OLD CAR WHICH WAS A 2000 HONDA ACCORD AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANY BLOWOUTS OR INCIDENTS WITH THE HONDA, YET THIS 2015 DODGE DART HAS A BLOWOUT WITH THE SLIGHTEST POTHOLE ENCOUNTER.

RQ25002 · Recall 19V-293 Post Remedy Failures

Opened Jun 30, 2025 · Closed Dec 12, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:automatic Transmission:lever And Linkage:floor Shift; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod:retaining Fasteners/hardware

On June 30, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ25002 to investigate and review the effectiveness of Recall 19V-293. This recall was intended to address deterioration and detachment of shifter cable bushings by replacing them with an improved bushing that is less susceptible to deterioration from chemicals, oils, and solvents in MY2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions and manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automotive US LLC (FCA US). If the shifter cable becomes detached from the transmission, the transmission gear position may not match the driver’s intended gear selection. This mismatch could result in unintended vehicle movement or rollaway when the driver believes the transmission is in PARK, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury. ODI has received sixty-three (63) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) alleging worn or misadjusted shifter cables and/or shifter cable detachments in subject vehicles that had already received the remedy for Recall 19V-293. Complainants reported incidents of bushing deterioration and detachment, resulting in gear-selection mismatch despite the prior recall repair, raising concerns regarding the effectiveness and durability of the implemented remedy and the adequacy of the recall. ODI’s investigation sought to determine whether the remedy used in recall 19V-293 adequately addressed the cause of the failure and whether other vehicles using the same bushing design might be affected. In response, FCA US and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (Dura) determined that the repair for Recall 19V-293 did not sufficiently address the issue, and therefore, a safety defect exists in the subject vehicle population. As a result, FCA US and Dura initiated the following recall actions: ·         Recall 25V-674 (FCA US) is intended to address MY 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles repaired under 19V-293 or otherwise equipped with suspect service parts. Remedy is under development. ·         Recall 25E-065 (Dura) is intended to address the defect at the equipment level by recalling affected gearshift control cable assemblies distributed as service components. Remedy is under development. The recalls initiated by FCA US (25V-674), and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (25E-065) were received prior to ODI sending an Information Request (IR) letter to FCA. These two recalls seem to resolve the concerns that prompted investigation RQ25002 by replacing the previously recalled and service-supplied shifter cable assembly with an improved design, currently under development. The vehicle scope concern identified in this query was addressed by the new recalls including all Model Year 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles produced and equipped with the affected shifter cable assembly. Accordingly, ODI is closing Investigation RQ25002. The agency will continue to monitor field performance and recall completion data to evaluate the effectiveness of the new remedy. ODI reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
