WHEN DRIVING AND APPLYING THE BRAKES THEY WILL SOMETIMES GO SOFT I WILL HAVE TO REAPPLY THEM FOR THE BRAKES TO GO BACK TO NORMAL. I KNOW THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT MY CAR IS NOT INCLUDED. I DON'T THINK I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A PROBLEM THAT DODGE KNOWS EXISTS. WHAT CAN I DO TO GET MY CAR ADDED TO THE RECALL?

MY VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE A BATTERY UNDER WARRANTY. I'VE GONE TO THE STORE WHERE THE BATTERY WAS PURCHASED TWICE AND WAS TOLD THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR ARE GOOD. I'VE HAD TWO DIFFERENT AUTO MECHANICS CHECK MY CAR AND WAS TOLD THE SAME AS THE ABOVE. ONE MECHANIC TOLD ME WHEN HE APPLIED A DIAGNOSTIC TOOL TO MY CAR, SEVERAL FACTORY CODES COME UP. I WAS TOLD TO TAKE MY CAR TO A DODGE DEALER SERVICE CENTER, WHICH I PLAN TO DO ON MONDAY 2//12/18. I'M FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE MY NEIGHBOR'S FRIEND AND MY SISTER'S MALE FRIENDS GIRLFRIEND BOTH OWN DODGE DARTS AND ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. OUR CARS WILL SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. MY BATTERY INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON, HOWEVER WHEN TESTED, THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR INDICATES THEY ARE OKAY. AS I SAID ABOVE, I'VE HAD THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR TESTED AT LEAST FOUR TIMES. EACH TIME I EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM MY CAR WAS IN MOTION ON A STREET.

MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WAS A BATTERY PROBLEM IN SEPT. 2017 AND I PAID OVER $600 TO HAVEN THEM REPLACE THE BATTERY, WHICH RESOLVED THE ISSUE UNTIL NOW. THERE IS A RECALL R42 FOR THIS VERY ISSUE, HOWEVER IT DOESN'T APPLY TO MY VIN NUMBER. THE DESCRIPTION OF THE RECALL FITS EXACTLY WHAT I AM EXPERIENCING.

TAKATA RECALL: I PULLED OUT OF MY WORK PARKING LOT AT 5PM AFTER IT HAD BEEN SITTING SINCE 7AM AND DROVE ABOUT 2 MINS DOWN THE RODE, CAR BATTERY LIGHT FLASHED AND THE CAR WOULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. ALL LIGHTS AND RADIO, A/C CONTINUED WORKING NORMALLY. I WAS LEFT STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TURNED THE KEY A COUPLE OF TIMES, AFTER ABOUT 5-6 TIMES IT FINALLY STARTED AGAIN AND DROVE AWAY NORMALLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED 6 TIMES NOW IN THE PAST 6 DAYS. MOST RECENTLY I WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUSY STREET GOING ABOUT 30 MPH IN FAR RIGHT LANE, I SAW THE BATTERY LIGHT FLASH AND I SWERVED INTO A PARKING LOT BEFORE MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. IT IS NOW TAKING 15-20 MINS TO START BACK UP, IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. IT ONLY SEEMS TO STALL FIRST TIME DRIVING IT IN THE MORNING OR AFTER WORK, IN BOTH CASES THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING FOR 8-9 HOURS. I'M NOW SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR FEARFUL IT WILL STOP ON ME AND I WONT HAVE A CHANCE TO GET OUT OF HARMS WAY.

CROSSING A BUSY ROAD TO THE MIDDLE TURN LANE MY 2014 DODGE DART STALLED OUT AND HAD A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER, LEAVING ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND I WAS ALMOST TBONED. I WAS QUICKLY ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE AGAIN TO GET INTO THE MIDDLE TURN LANE WHERE THE CAR STALLED OUT AGAIN. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AND TURN AROUND TO HEAD BACK HOME AND OFF THE ROAD. WHILE DRIVING 100FT THE CAR WAS STILL JERKING AS IT WAS ABOUT TO STALL YET AGAIN. I GET THE CAR HOME AND LEAVE IT PARKED TO CALL THE DEALERSHIP. THE ONLY THING THEY KEPT ASKING ME ABOUT OR WERE CONCERNED ABOUT WAS MY OIL AND IF I HAD BEEN DOING MY OIL CHANGES. SO, THEY OBVIOUSLY WERE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE FAILURE AND THE OIL. I TOLD THE DEALERSHIP THAT I HAVE COMPLETE DOCUMENTATION OF EVERY OIL CHANGE HAVING BEEN DONE ON TIME, EVERY TIME AND THAT I WASN'T EVEN DUE FOR MY NEXT OIL CHANGE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF THE DEALERSHIP STILL SUGGESTED I CHECK MY OIL LEVEL. I CHECK MY OIL AND IT'S SO LOW THAT NOTHING IS ON THE DIP STICK, MY ENGINE WAS DRY OF OIL WITHOUT MY OIL PRESSURE SENSOR EVER HAVING GONE OFF AND ZERO OIL IN MY DRIVEWAY. I CALLED IMMEDIATELY AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AS IT'S A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND STILL UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. THE NEXT DAY THE DEALERSHIP CALLS ME TO INFORM ME THAT THE INFORMATION I HAVE THEM WAS CORRECT THAT THERE WAS NO OIL IN MY CAR, NO OIL LEAKS AND NO RESIDUE OF OIL TO BE FOUND! THEY THEN PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT THEY'VE FILLED IT WITH OIL AND I'M REQUIRED TO CONTINUE DRIVING THIS DANGEROUS VEHICLE THAT ALREADY ALMOST HAD ME TBONED FOR ANOTHER 1,000 MILES TO DO AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST BEFORE CHRYSLER WILL POSSIBLY APPROVE ME FOR A NEW MOTOR THAT IS STILL COVERED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE OF THE MOTOR JUST BURNING THE OIL IN THIS CAR AND THAT IT'S DANGEROUS.

LOSS OF REVERSE CAMERA, MOON ROOF, LOSS OF AUTO WINDOWS BOTH UP AND DOWN, AS WELL AS PRACTICALLY ALL FORWARD MOTION AS IF THE TRANSMISSION HAS SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. ONCE STOPPED SAFELY AND VEHICLE HAS BEEN DISABLED I.T WILL NOT START WITHOUT A SERIES OF STEPS PRIOR TO IGNITION. 1. PRESS ACCESSORY BUTTON. 2. PLACE IN NUETRAL. 3. RETURN TO PARK. 4. OPEN AND CLOSE DRIVER DOOR. 5. APPLY FOOT TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. 6. PRESS IGNITION SWITCH TO START THE VEHICLE. THESE STEPS ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO BECOME OPERATIONAL; HOWEVER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL REMAIN ON FOR VARIOUS LENGTHS OF TIME. THE TRANSMISSION NOW SHIFTS LESS ROUGH THAN DURING THE INITIAL MALFUNCTION. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS MALFUNCTION BOTH WHILE STARTING MY CAR AND DURING OPERATION ON THE OPEN ROAD. AT WHICH POINT THE VEHICLE BECOMES CLEARLY UNSAFE TO OPERATE, DUE TO LOSS OF MOTION. I PERSONALLY DO NOT FEEL SAFE OPERATING THIS VEHICLE ALONE AND ESPECIALLY WITH MY FAMILY ABOARD. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE HOURS ON END AND FOUND MASSES FALLING TO THE SAME VEHICLE MALFUNCTION. AS OF YET MY SPECIFIC VIN# HAS YET TO BE RECALLED REGARDLESS OF THE NATURE OF THE MALFUNCTIONS. I CHARGE YOU NHTSA TO PRESS UPON CHRYSLER FOR SAFETY OF NOT ONLY MY FAMILY BUT ALL THE OTHERS OUT IN THE WORLD AT RISK DUE TO FAULTY ENGINEERING AND EQUIPMENT.

RQ25002 · Recall 19V-293 Post Remedy Failures

Opened Jun 30, 2025 · Closed Dec 12, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:automatic Transmission:lever And Linkage:floor Shift; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod:retaining Fasteners/hardware

On June 30, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ25002 to investigate and review the effectiveness of Recall 19V-293. This recall was intended to address deterioration and detachment of shifter cable bushings by replacing them with an improved bushing that is less susceptible to deterioration from chemicals, oils, and solvents in MY2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions and manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automotive US LLC (FCA US). If the shifter cable becomes detached from the transmission, the transmission gear position may not match the driver’s intended gear selection. This mismatch could result in unintended vehicle movement or rollaway when the driver believes the transmission is in PARK, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury. ODI has received sixty-three (63) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) alleging worn or misadjusted shifter cables and/or shifter cable detachments in subject vehicles that had already received the remedy for Recall 19V-293. Complainants reported incidents of bushing deterioration and detachment, resulting in gear-selection mismatch despite the prior recall repair, raising concerns regarding the effectiveness and durability of the implemented remedy and the adequacy of the recall. ODI’s investigation sought to determine whether the remedy used in recall 19V-293 adequately addressed the cause of the failure and whether other vehicles using the same bushing design might be affected. In response, FCA US and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (Dura) determined that the repair for Recall 19V-293 did not sufficiently address the issue, and therefore, a safety defect exists in the subject vehicle population. As a result, FCA US and Dura initiated the following recall actions: ·         Recall 25V-674 (FCA US) is intended to address MY 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles repaired under 19V-293 or otherwise equipped with suspect service parts. Remedy is under development. ·         Recall 25E-065 (Dura) is intended to address the defect at the equipment level by recalling affected gearshift control cable assemblies distributed as service components. Remedy is under development. The recalls initiated by FCA US (25V-674), and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (25E-065) were received prior to ODI sending an Information Request (IR) letter to FCA. These two recalls seem to resolve the concerns that prompted investigation RQ25002 by replacing the previously recalled and service-supplied shifter cable assembly with an improved design, currently under development. The vehicle scope concern identified in this query was addressed by the new recalls including all Model Year 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles produced and equipped with the affected shifter cable assembly. Accordingly, ODI is closing Investigation RQ25002. The agency will continue to monitor field performance and recall completion data to evaluate the effectiveness of the new remedy. ODI reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
