CAR KEEPS STALLING ON ROAD AND NOT STARTING. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE RECTIFIED. SEVERAL OTHERS HAVE REPORTED THE ISSUES AS WELL AS FAR BACK AS 2016. DODGE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ON BEHALF OF CUSTOMERS TO CLEAR THIS HORRIBLE SAFETY HAZARD.

THEY LOOKED AT IT AND SAID IT WAS BECAUSE THE OIL WAS LOW. FAST FORWARD TO MAY. I'M ON THE WAY TO THE STORE AND MY CAR STALLS OUT WHILE I'M DRIVING WITH MY 4YR DAUGHTER IN THE CAR. I GOT IT STARTED BACK UP AFTER A FEW MINS BUT IT STALLED OUT AFTER A MIN. THEN AGAIN LATER IN THE NIGHT 3 MORE TIMES IN LESS THEN A QUARTER MILE. THIS APPARENTLY IS AN ONGOING ISSUE AMONGST OTHER DADGE DART OWNERS. THIS PROBLEM COULD KILL PEOPLE AND DODGE IS DOING NOTHING TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION.

I BOUGHT MY 2014 DART BRAND NEW IN JANUARY OF 2015. AS OF TODAY (4/9/18), IT HAS 47,200 MILES ON IT. I WAS TAKING RESIDENTIAL ROADS TO DROP MY DAUGHTER OFF AT SCHOOL, SLOWING TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND TURN RIGHT. I THOUGHT I SLOWED TOO MUCH AND NEEDED TO SLIGHTLY ACCELERATE TO GET ME TO THE STOP SIGN. WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE, I REALIZED THE CAR HAD STALLED, BUT ALL INSIDE LIGHTS AND RADIO WERE STILL ON. THE "BATTERY" LIGHT (CHARGING SYSTEM LIGHT) CAME ON AND STAYED ON UNTIL I TURNED THE CAR OFF. I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR, BUT ALL IT WOULD DO WAS TRY TO TURN OVER. I KNOW IT'S NOT THE BATTERY, AS IT WAS REPLACED LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AGO. ALL TERMINALS/CONNECTIONS TO THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR ARE NOT LOOSE. AFTER TRYING TO RESTART THE CAR TWICE, IT FINALLY STARTED ON THE THIRD TRY WITH HESITATION. FROM THERE, I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE TO THE SCHOOL (LESS THAN A MILE - IT'S ONLY 1.3 MILES FROM MY HOUSE TO THE SCHOOL). WHEN I GOT BACK HOME, I LET THE CAR SIT FOR ROUGHLY 2-3 MINUTES AND RESTARTED IT AGAIN - NO HESITATION. AFTER LOOKING FOR ANSWERS ONLINE, I'VE FOUND AT LEAST 34 IDENTICAL PROBLEMS WITH NO EXPLANATION AND NO HELP FROM DODGE/CHRYSLER. (EXCEPT FOR ONE OR TWO ENGINE REPLACEMENTS). (CARCOMPLAINTS.COM) I AM SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR TO WORK, AS I DON'T WANT IT TO STALL ON THE HIGHWAY AND GET IN AN ACCIDENT, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE I HAVE TWO CHILDREN THAT ARE PICKED UP FROM MY WORK. THIS IS ONLY GOING TO CAUSE A FATAL ACCIDENT IF SOMETHING ISN'T DONE ABOUT THIS. WE'VE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR (RADIO FREEZES AND RESTARTS INTERMITTENTLY, TRANSMISSION WILL SHIFT HARD, ETC.).

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL FLASH WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY THE GEAR SELECTIONS LIGHTS ALL GLOW RED. STABILITY INDICATOR SIGNALS LOSS AS WELL AS EXTREMELY ROUGH SHIFTING. LOSS OF REVERSE CAMERA, MOON ROOF, LOSS OF AUTO WINDOWS BOTH UP AND DOWN, AS WELL AS PRACTICALLY ALL FORWARD MOTION AS IF THE TRANSMISSION HAS SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. ONCE STOPPED SAFELY AND VEHICLE HAS BEEN DISABLED I.T WILL NOT START WITHOUT A SERIES OF STEPS PRIOR TO IGNITION. 1. PRESS ACCESSORY BUTTON. 2. PLACE IN NUETRAL. 3. RETURN TO PARK. 4. OPEN AND CLOSE DRIVER DOOR. 5. APPLY FOOT TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. 6. PRESS IGNITION SWITCH TO START THE VEHICLE. THESE STEPS ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO BECOME OPERATIONAL; HOWEVER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL REMAIN ON FOR VARIOUS LENGTHS OF TIME. THE TRANSMISSION NOW SHIFTS LESS ROUGH THAN DURING THE INITIAL MALFUNCTION. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS MALFUNCTION BOTH WHILE STARTING MY CAR AND DURING OPERATION ON THE OPEN ROAD. AT WHICH POINT THE VEHICLE BECOMES CLEARLY UNSAFE TO OPERATE, DUE TO LOSS OF MOTION. I PERSONALLY DO NOT FEEL SAFE OPERATING THIS VEHICLE ALONE AND ESPECIALLY WITH MY FAMILY ABOARD. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE HOURS ON END AND FOUND MASSES FALLING TO THE SAME VEHICLE MALFUNCTION. AS OF YET MY SPECIFIC VIN# HAS YET TO BE RECALLED REGARDLESS OF THE NATURE OF THE MALFUNCTIONS. I CHARGE YOU NHTSA TO PRESS UPON CHRYSLER FOR SAFETY OF NOT ONLY MY FAMILY BUT ALL THE OTHERS OUT IN THE WORLD AT RISK DUE TO FAULTY ENGINEERING AND EQUIPMENT.

THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE ENGINE WILL STALL RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, WE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID IT WAS A SENSOR COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. OK GOOD. WELL A FEW DAYS AFTER, THE PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY SAY IT'S BECAUSE THE OIL NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. THE HUD SHOWED OVER 50% OIL LIFE LEFT. THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN A FEW DAYS AGO. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO RESOLVE AFTER AN OIL CHANGE. I'VE NOTICED THIS HAS HAPPENED TO A LOT OF PEOPLE, BUT STILL NO RECALLS. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. WHEN THE ENGINE STALLS, YOU LOOSE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. THIS CAN CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT. LUCKILY, IT'S ONLY HAPPENED ON SURFACE STREETS. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO AND FIXED.

RQ25002 · Recall 19V-293 Post Remedy Failures

Opened Jun 30, 2025 · Closed Dec 12, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:automatic Transmission:lever And Linkage:floor Shift; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod; Power Train:shift Linkage/cable/rod:retaining Fasteners/hardware

On June 30, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ25002 to investigate and review the effectiveness of Recall 19V-293. This recall was intended to address deterioration and detachment of shifter cable bushings by replacing them with an improved bushing that is less susceptible to deterioration from chemicals, oils, and solvents in MY2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions and manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automotive US LLC (FCA US). If the shifter cable becomes detached from the transmission, the transmission gear position may not match the driver’s intended gear selection. This mismatch could result in unintended vehicle movement or rollaway when the driver believes the transmission is in PARK, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury. ODI has received sixty-three (63) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) alleging worn or misadjusted shifter cables and/or shifter cable detachments in subject vehicles that had already received the remedy for Recall 19V-293. Complainants reported incidents of bushing deterioration and detachment, resulting in gear-selection mismatch despite the prior recall repair, raising concerns regarding the effectiveness and durability of the implemented remedy and the adequacy of the recall. ODI’s investigation sought to determine whether the remedy used in recall 19V-293 adequately addressed the cause of the failure and whether other vehicles using the same bushing design might be affected. In response, FCA US and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (Dura) determined that the repair for Recall 19V-293 did not sufficiently address the issue, and therefore, a safety defect exists in the subject vehicle population. As a result, FCA US and Dura initiated the following recall actions: ·         Recall 25V-674 (FCA US) is intended to address MY 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles repaired under 19V-293 or otherwise equipped with suspect service parts. Remedy is under development. ·         Recall 25E-065 (Dura) is intended to address the defect at the equipment level by recalling affected gearshift control cable assemblies distributed as service components. Remedy is under development. The recalls initiated by FCA US (25V-674), and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (25E-065) were received prior to ODI sending an Information Request (IR) letter to FCA. These two recalls seem to resolve the concerns that prompted investigation RQ25002 by replacing the previously recalled and service-supplied shifter cable assembly with an improved design, currently under development. The vehicle scope concern identified in this query was addressed by the new recalls including all Model Year 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles produced and equipped with the affected shifter cable assembly. Accordingly, ODI is closing Investigation RQ25002. The agency will continue to monitor field performance and recall completion data to evaluate the effectiveness of the new remedy. ODI reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
