CURRENTLY HAVING AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP FOR THE SECOND TIME IN LESS THAN 2 MONTHS FOR THE SAME LIGHTS. TWICE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD DO SOMETHING FUNNY AND THE THOSE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON. THE SECOND TIME(CURRENTLY AND OCCURRED ON JUNE 4TH) THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL. THE FIRST TIME THE ABS AND TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON, I WAS TOLD IT WAS A ABS SENSOR, AND I PAID THE DEALERSHIP $250.00. THIS TIME LESS THAN 2 MONTHS LATER, THE DEALERSHIP IS SAYING IT IS YET ANOTHER SENSOR CAUSING THOSE LIGHTS TO ILLUMINATE. AND AS FAR AS THE AIRBAG GOES, IT'S FAULTY WIRING AND THAT IT NEEDED ANOTHER WIRING HARNESS. THESE REPAIRS WOULD COST ME OVER $600.00. I HAVE TWO FRIENDS THAT HAVE THE SAME VEHICLE AND ARE HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS. THIS SEEMS TO BE A OVERALL DODGE ISSUE AS FAR AS THE CHARGERS GO.

I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE WHEN TRYING TO MAKE A LEGAL U-TURN, WHEN TRYING TO PUT THE CAR INTO REVERSE, I STEP ON THE GAS ONLY TO REALIZE THE SHIFTER POPPED BACK INTO NEUTRAL OR PARK. WHEN MAKING A U-TURN THERE IS NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. BY THE TIME I'M ABLE TO COMPLETE THE U-TURN AND PLACE THE GEAR INTO REVERSE THERE IS ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I'VE BEEN BEHIND SOME BIG TRUCKS THAT DECIDE THEY WANT TO BACK UP. WITH A NORMAL SHIFTER YOU CAN QUICKLY PLACE THE CAR INTO REVERSE. WITH THIS SHIFTER I FEEL I'M GOING TO GET HIT. THIS POPPING OUT OF REVERSE HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SHIFTER. I LIKE THE CAR ALTHOUGH I'VE HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR MANY REPAIRS AND IT'S ONLY 3 YEARS OLD. THIS CAR I FEEL MAY GET ME IN AN ACCIDENT OR KILL ME BY NOT BEING ABLE TO SHIFT QUICKLY ENOUGH. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO UNTIL I GOT YOUR WEBSITE. PLEASE CHECK INTO THIS. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT WHEN YOU CAN'T PUT THE CAR INTO REVERSE BECAUSE IT POPS OUT. THANK YOU *TR

THE CAR DIDN'T FEEL OR DRIVE WOBBLY IT JUST SOUNDED WOBBLY. BECAUSE MY CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY I DIDN'T WANT TO HAVE TO PAY THE OUTRAGEOUS FEE THE DEALERSHIP WOULD CHARGE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM SO I TOOK IT TO LOCAL MECHANIC SHOP INSTEAD. THEY TOLD ME THE LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS A BIT SURPRISED TO LEARN THIS BECAUSE BUSHINGS GOING OUT AT ONLY 45K MILES IS VERY PREMATURE. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE TO FIND THAT LOTS OF PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. POLICE OFFICERS WHO DRIVE 2009 - 2014 DODGE CHARGERS ARE HAVING TO REPLACE THE TENSION STRUTS ON BOTH SIDES EVERY 15-20 THOUSAND MILES DUE THE BUSHINGS BEING TORN. CHRYSTLER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FINANCIAL BURDEN OF REPLACING THESE PARTS NOT THE CONSUMER.

A RECALL WAS SENT OUT FOR THE ALTERNATOR, I TRIED SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO GET THE WORK DONE AND THEY NEVER HAD THE PART. RECENTLY I WAS OUT DRIVING THE CAR AND IT SHUTOFF AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE CAR BEGAN TO FLASH ON AND OFF CONSTANTLY. I HAD TO CALL THE TOW TRUCK TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT WAS INOPERABLE. ONCE THE DEALERSHIP DID THEIR DIAGNOSIS THEY NOTIFIED ME AND TOLD ME IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR AND IT CAUSED THE BATTERY TO DIE. HE TOLD ME THAT HE WAS GOING TO TAKE CARE OF THE ALTERNATOR BUT I HAD TO COME OUT OF THE POCKET FOR THE BATTERY. I EXPLAINED TO HIM THAT THE BATTERY DIED DUE TO THE BAD ALTERNATOR AND HE STATED THAT HE DOES NOT KNOW THAT STILL INSISTING THAT I PAY FOR THE BATTERY. I CALLED FOR TWO DAYS STRAIGHT TRYING TO CONTACT THE SERVICE MANAGER BUT NO ONE EVER CONTACTED ME. THEREFORE I'M REACHING OUT TO YOUR COMPANY TO FIND OUT IS IT FAIR THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR A BATTERY THAT DIED DUE TO THE ALTERNATOR GOING OUT. THE CAR LIGHTS CONTINUED TO FLASH AND THE GAUGES CONTINUED TO GO IN ALL DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS EVEN WHEN THE TOW COMPANY TOWED THE CAR. THE BATTERY THAT WAS IN THE CAR WAS PURCHASED DIRECTLY FROM DODGE LESS THAN 2 YEARS AGO. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE ASSIST ME?

EA21002 · Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture

Opened Sep 17, 2021 · No close date supplied

Status: open (inferred from source dates) · Air Bags:frontal:driver Side:inflator Module; Air Bags:frontal:passenger Side:inflator Module

From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced. In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators. It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.

Air Bags:frontal:passenger Side:inflator Module

EA16002 · Vehicle Rollaway, Engine On

Opened Feb 3, 2016 · Closed Jun 24, 2016

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:automatic Transmission:gear Position Indication (prndl)

On April 22, 2016, Fiat Chrysler Automotive US LLC, (FCA) submitted a Defect Information Report (DIR) to NHTSA regarding a defect that could result in unattended vehicle rollaway with the engine running in approximately 811,586 model year (MY) 2012 to 2014 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 vehicles and MY 2014 to 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with 8-speed transmissions and a monostable gear selector (NHTSA Recall #16V-240, FCA Recall #S27). According to FCA's DIR, The existing strategies built into these vehicles to deter drivers from exiting the vehicle after failing to put the transmission into PARK have not stopped some from doing so. Drivers erroneously concluding that their vehicle's transmission is in the PARK position may be struck by the vehicle and injured if they attempt to get out of the vehicle while the engine is running and the parking brake is not engaged. The vehicles recalled by FCA are equipped with Monostable electronic (shift-by-wire) gearshift assemblies supplied by ZF Group (see Figure 1).The subject Monostable shifter has a single neutral position that it snaps back to when the driver releases the shift knob.Although the Monostable gearshift has the familiar appearance of a conventional console mechanical gearshift assembly, it has an unfamiliar movement that does not provide the tactile or visual feedback that drivers are accustomed to receiving from conventional shifters.Consequently, the driver must take additional time to verify that the desired gear position was achieved by checking the PRNDL display on the shift knob or the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) display.
