A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE , WHEELS SPINNING AND TRANSMISSION SHUDDERING PROBLEM ON MY NEW 2017 CHYRSLER PACIFICA MODEL, OCCURS MORE SHARPLY AND FREQUENTLY ON WET ROADS. WHILE SHIFTING TO DRIVE MODE AND PICKING UP FROM IDLE POSITION AT SIGNALS & TURNS THE VEHICLE SHAKES, WHEELS DON'T GRAB THE ROADS, TRANSMISSION SLIPS, VEHICLE SHUDDERS, LOSES MOMENTUM AND HALTS MOMENTARILY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, AND THIS IS WORST ON INCLINED ROADS. I BARELY ESCAPED AN ACCIDENT TODAY WHEN VEHICLE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WHILE TRYING TO TAKE A TURN AT AN INTERSECTION AND WHEELS KEPT SPINNING, TRANSMISSION KEPT SHUDDERING AND CAR WASN'T MOVING ANYWHERE. I COMPLAINED A FEW TIMES WITH CHRYSLER DEALER, THEY SAID INSPECTION DOES NOT FIND ANY ERROR CODE. THE ISSUE IS SO APPARENT AND CAN BE REPLICATED EASILY BY JUST DRIVING IT ONCE. IT'S A SERIOUS MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND IT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS AND DEATH..I INTEND TO PURSUE THIS SERIOUSLY WITH CHRYSLER AND HOPE THEY ARE ABLE TO FIX. IF ANYBODY HAS ANY SIMILAR EXPERIENCE, PLEASE POST IT HERE. ..UPDATED 10/25/17 *BF

THE DOT ABOVE THE 'D' (FOR DRIVE) STARTED FLASHING, AND A MESSAGE FLASHED: 'SHIFT TO P TO START.' WE CAME TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I PUT IT IN PARK AND THEN WAS ABLE TO TURN IT BACK ON. I HAD BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL, SO I NEVER TOUCHED THE STARTER BUTTON. THE KEY FOB WAS IN MY PURSE, WHICH WAS NOT MOVED. THANKFULLY WE WERE NOT ON A HIGHWAY, SO NOBODY RAN INTO US. I DROPPED IT OFF AT THE DEALERSHIP THIS MORNING, AND THEY JUST TOLD ME THEY CANNOT RECREATE THE ERROR. WE'VE HAD IT FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS, AND WE'VE DRIVEN IT 1500 MILES, MOSTLY HIGHWAY.....UPDATED 11/03/17 *BF UPDATED 11/09/2017*JS

THE VEHICLE HAS 950 MILES ON IT, A ROTATORY GEAR SHIFT KNOW, AND AN ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE. AT HOME I PARK THE VEHICLE ON A LEVEL SURFACE. I DO NOT ENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE WHEN I LEAVE THE VEHICLE. ON QUITE A FEW OCCASIONS WHEN I ENTER THE VEHICLE AND TURN ON THE ENGINE, THE PARKING-BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON AND THE BRAKE IS ENGAGED EVEN THOUGH I DID NOT SET IT. FOR MOST OCCURRENCES, I CAN PRESS THE PARKING BRAKE BUTTON, AND THE LIGHT WILL GO OFF AND THE BRAKE WILL DISENGAGE. HOWEVER, ON SOME OCCASIONS, PRESSING THE BRAKE BUTTON GIVES NO RESPONSE. IF I TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND THEN BACK ON, THE BRAKE THEN DISENGAGES. A FEW TIMES I HAVE HAD TO TURN THE ENGINE ON AND OFF MORE THAN ONE TIME TO GET THE BRAKE DISENGAGED. A MORE SERIES PROBLEM WITH THE PARKING BRAKE IS THAT ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE BRAKE HAS SUDDENLY COME ON WHILE I AM DRIVING. THIS HAS OCCURRED WHEN I HAVE STARTED THE ENGINE AND DRIVEN ABOUT 100 FEET. IT HAS OCCURRED WHEN I AM MOVING FORWARD AND WHEN I AM BACKING UP. THE BRAKE SUDDENLY ENGAGES AND BRINGS THE VEHICLE TO AN ABRUPT HALT. ON THESE OCCASIONS PRESSING THE BRAKE BUTTON GAVE NO RESPONSE. I HAD TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON. 7/5 I STOPPED AT A PHARMACY DRIVE-UP WINDOW, AND PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK. AFTER MY TRANSACTION, I ROTATED THE GEAR KNOB TO DRIVE, AND THE PARKING BRAKE LIGHT THEN WENT ON. I PRESSED THE BRAKE BUTTON MULTIPLE TIMES, AND THE LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OUT. I THEN TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON. (TO DO THIS I HAD TO HAVE PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL.) WHEN I TURNED THE ENGINE BACK ON THE VEHICLE TOOK OFF AT SIGNIFICANT SPEED, AND I CRASHED INTO A STREET LIGHT POLE. WHEN A TOW TRUCK CAME TO GET THE VEHICLE THE TRUCK OPERATOR FOUND THAT THE VEHICLE GEAR KNOB WAS IN THE PARK GEAR. HE HAD A GOOD DEAL OF DIFFICULTY IN GETTING THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL GEAR FOR THE TOWING PROCESS. HAVE PICTURES UPON REQUEST. .....UPDATED 11/03/17 *BF ..UPDATED 11/13/2017*JS ...UPDATED 11/17/17 *BF *JS *TR

ACC & FCW. MINE DID NOT WORK. THE DEALER HAD MY CAR FOR 2 WEEKS. THEY HAD TO CONTACT THE CHRYSLER ENGINEER & WAS TOLD TO REPLACE & RE-CALIBRATE. SO AFTER BEING REPLACED IT SOMEWHAT WORKS. AFTER THE NEW PARTS, MY CAR WILL STILL BRAKE HARD WHEN A CAR IN THE ADJACENT LANE IS EXITING (AS IF THE CAR WAS BRAKING IN FRONT OF ME). BUT, IF A CAR CHANGES LANES DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME OR SLAMS ON BRAKES DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME MY CAR DOESN'T REACT? CHRYSLER HAS DEFINITELY FALLEN SHORT ON THIS FUNCTION. I'VE OWNED VEHICLES WHERE THIS FUNCTION WORKED NEARLY FLAWLESS. CHRYSLER SAYS ITS AS GOOD AS ITS GOING TO GET. ANOTHER MISREPRESENTATION ON THIS FEATURE! I'M DISAPPOINTED. CHRYSLER CLAIMS THE PACIFICA TO BE THE QUIETEST VEHICLE IN ITS CLASS. AFTER DRIVING IT ABOUT 8 MONTHS NOW, I HATE IT. IT'S AS NOISY AS A SMALL CAR. "ACOUSTICALLY SOUND WITH ITS ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION (ANC), SUBDUING ENGINE AND STREET NOISE THROUGH WHITE-NOISE WAVELENGTHS PLAYED THROUGH ALL SPEAKERS THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE". THE ANC IS IN ALL TRIM LEVELS. CHRYSLER AT THIS POINT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A WAY TO TEST THE PRODUCT TO SEE IF THE ANC IS WORKING! STAR TECH SUPPORT OF CHRYSLER IS STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO TEST THIS FEATURE!!! I HAD A CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE REP TELL ME THAT THE ANC WAS FOR MY CELL PHONE, LOL, I WAS LIKE ARE YOU SURE YOU WORK FOR CHRYSLER?? THIRD, IS THE SUSPENSION AND REAR SWAY OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN THERE ARE ONLY 2 PEOPLE UP FRONT IT'S NOT NOTICEABLE. BUT WHEN WE HAVE 5-6 PEOPLE IT'S NOTICEABLE. CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE TRIED TO TELL ME I HAD THE VAN OVER CAPACITY. REALLY! SO MY 7 PASSENGER VAN WAS OVER CAPACITY WITH 5 PEOPLE (4 ADULTS, 1 CHILD, 3 LUGGAGE)? AGAIN ARE YOU SURE YOU WORK FOR CHRYSLER?? FOURTH, MY KEY FOB RANDOMLY LOSES CONNECTION. FIFTH, I HAD THE A/C FAILURE AND MY A/C HAD TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE REQUESTED A BUY BACK. TOO MANY MISREPRESENTATIONS. *TR

I HAVE A 2017 CHRYSLER PACIFICA EQUIPPED WITH A FCW (FRONTAL COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM). I HAVE OWNED AND DRIVEN OTHER CARS WITH THIS SYSTEM THAT HAVE OPERATED WITHOUT ISSUE. THE FCW IN THE PACIFICA HAS THREE SETTINGS THAT CAN BE SELECTED BY THE DRIVER FOR SENSITIVITY. NEAR, MEDIUM AND FAR. I HAVE TRIED ALL SETTINGS WITHOUT ANY DIFFERENCE. THE SYSTEM DOES NOT AUDIBLY WARN THE DRIVER OF A POSSIBLE IMPENDING COLLISION AT ANY SPEED OR DISTANCE UNDER ALMOST ALL DAILY DRIVING SCENARIOS. THIS INCLUDES HEAVY TRAFFIC, CITY AND HIGHWAY, AND SITUATIONS WITH FREQUENT ABRUPT STOPS. I HAVE DRIVEN 4,135 MILES IN TWO WEEKS IN VERY HEAVY TRAFFIC WITH LOTS OF EMERGENCY BREAKING WITH NO WARNING FROM THE FCW ON THE PACIFICA. THE SYSTEM HAS ACTIVATED ONCE WITH AN APPROXIMATE DISTANCE OF 5-7 FEET, UPON APPROACHING A CHRYSLER 200 AT AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH. THE DEALER TECHNICIAN STATES NO CODES ARE IN THE SYSTEM, AND THEREFOR IT IS FUNCTIONING. I DISCUSSED THIS MATTER WITH THE CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHO IS ESCALATING THE MATTER TO CHRYSLER DEALER SUPPORT FOR FURTHER EVALUATION AND FOLLOW-UP AFTER HE EXPERIENCED MY ISSUE ON A TEST DRIVE. IN ADDITION, THIS VEHICLE DOES NOT OPERATE PER THE VIDEOS CHRYSLER PUBLISHES ON ITS WEBSITE AS AN EXAMPLE OF FCW ON ITS CARS. BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE WITH OTHER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH FCW, I BELIEVE THE FCW ON THE PACIFICA IS NOT PROPERLY CALIBRATED TO WARN DRIVERS OF IMPENDING COLLISIONS VIA AN AUDIBLE ALERT AS DESCRIBED IN MARKETING MATERIALS AND IN COMPARISON TO OTHER VEHICLES I HAVE DRIVEN WITH THIS FEATURE.

PE25009 · Intermittent Loss Of Electric Power Steering

Opened Sep 5, 2025 · No close date supplied

Status: open (inferred from source dates) · Steering:electric Power Assist System

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) is opening this Preliminary Evaluation to assess the scope, frequency, and potential safety consequences of alleged defects related to the electric power steering (EPS) system in model year (MY) 2017–2018 Chrysler Pacifica vehicles. ODI has received 94 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) reporting a condition in which the steering system exhibits a sticking sensation during gradual turns, particularly when the steering wheel is positioned near the 11 o'clock or 1 o'clock position. Complainants allege that during these events, increased steering effort is required to return the wheel to center. In many cases, this is followed by a sudden reactivation of EPS assistance, which may result in an oversteer condition. This behavior could increase the risk of a crash, especially at higher speeds. ODI has identified multiple VOQs describing similar symptoms. This investigation will assess the frequency, root cause, and potential safety-related consequences of the alleged EPS malfunction. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

RQ24001 · Ignition-off High Voltage Battery Fire (remedy Effectiveness Of Recall 22V-077)

Opened Jan 16, 2024 · No close date supplied

Status: open (inferred from source dates) · Electrical System:propulsion System:traction Battery

On February 11, 2022, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) issued a safety recall (NHTSA Recall 22V-077) on all 2017-2018 Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) produced between August 12, 2016 through August 7, 2018. The recall addresses ignition “OFF’ fires that originate at the high voltage (HV) battery pack assembly. An ignition ‘OFF’ vehicle fire can result in an increased risk of occupant injury, injury to persons outside the vehicle, and property damage, with little to no warning. At the time of the recall filing the root cause of the vehicle fires was unknown and under investigation by FCA and suppliers. A software remedy designed to improve thermal event detectability by monitoring battery diagnostics is currently being installed on subject vehicles as an interim remedy. As of November 23, 2023, the root cause of the battery failure is unknown. From December 2022 through December 2023, NHTSA has received four consumer complaints (VOQs) alleging vehicle thermal events involving recalled 2017 and 2018 Chrysler Pacifica PHEVs. Additional information collected from complainants confirmed a thermal event originating near or at the HV battery pack after the Recall 22V077 remedy had been applied to the vehicle. Follow up meetings with FCA and suppliers in November and December 2023 to discuss the ongoing root cause investigation and post-recall remedy incidents indicated a recent increase in HV battery thermal events. Furthermore, a review of NHTSA complaint data indicated the post-recall HV battery thermal event complaint rate now exceeds pre-recall levels. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) is opening this Recall Query (RQ) to review the effectiveness of the original recall remedy, understand the root cause of the battery fires, investigate additional reports of Pacifica PHEV HV battery fires, and to increase monitoring of the manufacturer root cause investigation. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

DP17003 · Stall/loss Of Motive Power

By letter dated November 30, 2017, the Center for Auto Safety (CAS) petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requesting it open an investigation into allegations of engine stalling in the model year (MY) 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, a new vehicle platform. In support of its petition, CAS cited 57 NHTSA complaints alleging an engine stall in the subject Pacifica vehicles, in addition to other information it provided. On December 1, 2017, NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation opened Defect Petition 17-003 as requested by CAS.ODI sent an information request letter to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), the manufacturer of the subject Pacifica vehicles, on December 12, 2017 requesting information related to engine stalling in Pacificas. The letter requested FCA provide the information by January 23, 2018.On January 11, 2018, and after technical discussions with ODI, FCA filed a defect information report advising the agency that it would conduct a safety recall of certain MY2017 Chrysler Pacificas to address a condition resulting in engine stalling without warning. The recall would address nearly 154,000 MY2017 Pacificas manufactured with engine control software that did not contain a routine intended to address loss of crankshaft position information required to keep the engine from stalling.FCA noted the condition could lead to a stall without illuminating a Malfunction Indicator Lamp, and without setting any Diagnostic Trouble Code.Given these conditions, dealer technicians would be unable to properly diagnose, much less correct the cause of the stalling, which resulted in additional stalling events and significant consumer frustration.ODI reviewed consumer complaints it received through the date of FCA's recall filing and identified 88 alleging engine stalling. The ODI complaints generally describe stalling that occurs at low engine (RPM) and/or vehicle speeds, and are consistent in that regard with most of the 445 reports FCA provided. Also both the ODI and FCA reports note that the engine could be readily restarted after stalling. Both circumstances are consistent with the root cause FCA identified and is conducting a recall to address.Additionally, FCA was able to identify an older vehicle population that used the same engine as the MY2017 Pacifica, however the vehicles were manufactured with the remedy level software; according to FCA reports of stalling in this population were significantly lower. No crash or injury reports were identified in either the ODI or FCA reports.Certain MY2017 and all MY2018 Pacificas were manufactured with the remedy level software and are thus not included in the recall action. In view of the recall action FCA has announced, ODI considers the petition moot and is closing the action without a grant or deny decision. The closing of the petition does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist, and the agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.Reference (ODI) numbers for the above NHTSA complaints:11060960, 11060808, 11060711, 11057809, 11057520, 11057493, 11057171, 11057169, 11057025, 11055566, 11055031, 11054808, 11054746, 11054717, 11054274, 11054085, 11053669, 11053588, 11053553, 11053322, 11052905, 11052892, 11052654, 11052336, 11051390, 11051158, 11048832, 11048728, 11048720, 11048661, 11048626, 11048175, 11047936, 11047831, 11047793, 11047687, 11047684, 11047399, 11045061, 11042619, 11040610, 11040502, 11040294, 11039494, 11035468, 11034698, 11033417, 11032016, 11030729, 11029903, 11025266, 11025119, 11023691, 11023539, 11022835, 11022154, 11021223, 11019457, 11016083, 1101
