THIS SUV IS NOTHING SHORT OF A ROLLING HAZARD. THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT IS ON AND OFF, AGAIN, FOR THE PAST 6 DAYS. TRIED TO START IT UP THIS MORNING AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. AS SOON AS I WAS ABOUT TO BACK OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO IDLE IN A MANNER THAT CAUSED THE RPMS TO CRANK WAY UP AND THEN PLUNGE UNTIL ALMOST SHUTTING THE ENGINE DOWN WITH VIOLENT SHAKING AND LOUD ROARING NOISE. YESTERDAY, THE STABILITRAK WARNINGS (2) CAME ON THE DASHBOARD - I WAS ONLY GOING 3 MPH EXITING A PARKING LOT. THERE WAS NO INCLEMENT WEATHER AND THE ROAD WAS BONE DRY. I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO PICK UP POWER AND IT SEEMS LIKE THE MORE I PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL, THE SLOWER I GO. I LIVE IN HOUSTON AND THE TRAFFIC CONDITIONS REALLY DON'T ALLOW FOR A "SUDDEN STOP" OR LOSS OF POWER ON A FREEWAY WHERE PEOPLE ARE TRAVELING AT AN AVERAGE SPEED OF 70 MPH. I HAVE HAD 4 OTHER INSTANCES OF THIS "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT IN 3 YRS. THE DEALER ISN'T MUCH HELP AND GM CHEVY IS NO HELP AT ALL!!!! THE TV COMMERCIALS THEY RUN ABOUT CHEVY TRUCKS ARE "LIKE A ROCK" ARE VERY TRUE. THIS TRAILBLAZER IS AS USELESS AS A ROCK. *TR

ENGINE LIGHT ON INDICATED VAPOR COLLECTION BOX UNDER CAR NOT WORKING PROPERLY,AND/OR NEEDING TUNE UP. PERFORMED TUNE-UP, ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON. , THIS, ACCORDING TO MY LICENSED MECHANIC IS A DEFECTIVE DESIGN CONSTRUCTION PROBLEM. THAT HAVING THE BOX FOGGED FOR LEAKS AND SUBSEQUENT REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT RESULTS IN MULTIPLE SITUATIONS OF THE LIGHT ALWAYS COMING BACK ON. 2. THE MASTER SWITCH ON THE DRIVERS DOOR WENT OUT, DURING THE RAINY SEASON AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I LATER FOUND OUT THAT THIS WAS A RECALL ITEM, BUT GM, CHEV, AND/THEIR DEALERSHIPS REFUSE TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE PART AND EVEN THOUGH I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP, THEY DID NOT SPRAY THE ONE I HAD INSTALLED, WAS NOT INTERESTED IN REPLACING THE ORIG DEFECTIVE UNIT WITH THE NEW ENGINEERED PART, WERE RUDE, OBNOXIOUS AND NON PROFESSIONAL TO MY HUSBAND, WHICH NOW HAS ME LIVID. WE RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM A LOCAL DEALERSHIP, NEVER ANY MAIL PRIOR TO REPAIRING, WHEN ASKED ABOUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (UNDER ANOTHER RECALL TOO, FOR FUEL LEVEL SENSOR, THE DEALERSHIP IS CHARGING $60.00 TO CHECK IT OUT. IS GM AND OR CHEVROLET FINDING IT NECESSARY TO DRUM UP REPAIR COSTS FROM THE CONSUMER TO THEMSELVES. THIS IS JUST A LITTLE MORE OR LESS LIKE SCAMMING. *JS

MY SON AND I WERE OUT TODAY SHOPPING LOCALLY ONLY ABOUT 1 MILE FROM OUR HOME. THE CAR WAS FINE AND EVERYTHING WAS GREAT UNTIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE ACCELERATION ON THE CAR STARTED TO DECLINE EVEN THOUGH I HAD MY FOOT ON THE GAS THE CAR JUST SEEMED TO DO NOTHING. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE AND TRAFFIC WAS VICIOUS, I TURNED ON MY HAZARDS AND ATTEMPTED TO TRY AND PUSH ON THE GAS. I CAR CAME TO A STOP BUT THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING, IT FELT LIKE I WAS IN NEUTRAL BUT I WAS CLEARLY IN DRIVE. I CONTACTED ONSTAR THEY CALLED THE POLICE TO MAKE SURE WE DID NOT GET IN AN ACCIDENT, AS I STATED EARLIER, WE WERE IN TRAFFIC. I RECEIVED A PUSH TO A SAFE SIDE OF THE STREET AND TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR OVER AND OVER AGAIN, THE CAR STARTED UP FINE, IT JUST WOULD NOT GO ANYWHERE, NO MOVEMENT. I HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO MY HOME BECAUSE IT WAS 110 DEGREES AND I HAD MY YOUNGEST CHILD WITH ME. WE WAITED 2 HOURS FOR THE TOW TRUCK, I WAS DEHYDRATED AND FAINT BY THE TIME WE MADE IT HOME. MY HUSBAND CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AS WE JUST PURCHASED THE CAR IN FEBRUARY OF 2013 FROM EZCARSANDCREDIT IN RIVERSIDE CA, THEY SAID DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT, THEY WILL HAVE THE MANAGER CALL US BACK TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM, THAT WAS 4 HOURS AGO AND STILL NO CALL. *TR

THE TRUCK HAS BEEN AT A SEVERAL TIMES INTO A CHEVORLET DEALER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THE REDUCED ENGINE LIGHT AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ALL COME ON AT THE SAME TIME AND IT CAUSES A FAILURE IN WHICH THE VEHICLE LOSSES 90% OF POWER . THE FAILURE HAPPENS AT RANDOM TIME AND ALL WEATHER AND TRAFFIC CONDITIONS. I HAVE HAD IT AT TWO DEALERS AS WELL HAVE CONTACTED GM EXECUTIVE DEPT. THEY HAVE CLAIMED TO BE FIXED SEVERAL TIMES BUT IT STILL FAILS. THE ISSUE AT HAND IS THAT IN TRAFFIC CONDITIONS THIS FAILURE PROVES TO BE A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD FOR MYSELF AND OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. ITS NOT A USED CAR ISSUE AS ITS AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE ISSUE. I HAVE ASKED TIME AND TIME AGAIN TO HAVE A GM FIELD TECH COME LOOK AT THE CAR BUT, THEY INSIST THAT THE DEALER FIX IT. I NEED SOMEONE MORE TO SEE AND UNDERSTAND THE FAILURE COMES WITH AT GREAT RISKS OF OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. IF YOU GOGGLE THIS PROBLEM YOU WILL SEE OTHERS HAVE THE ISSUE AND I THINK ITS WORTH A RECALL IF THEY CAN FIND A FIX FOR IT BUT AFTER 3 YEARS AND SEVERAL TRIES THEY ARE STILL UNABLE TO FIX THE ISSUE. *TR

RECENTLY, I FILLED MY GAS TANK & LOW FUEL LIGHT WARNING DISPLAYED AND LOW FUEL LIGHT CAME ON. SINCE THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON STEADY (NOT BLINKING) MOST OF THE TIME. THE FUEL GAUGE FLOATS BACK AND FORTH NEVER REALLY LETTING YOU KNOW IT'S TRUE STATUS. THE DEALERS AND PUBLIC KNOW ABOUT THIS ISSUE- YET CHEVY REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND FIX THE PRODUCT. IT IS FRUSTRATING & NERVE WRACKING TO NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH FUEL YOU HAVE AT ANY GIVEN TIME, AS WELL AS THE CONSTANT WARNING LIGHTS/ CHIMES DURING DRIVING. THIS IS THE SECOND SERIOUS ISSUE I HAVE HAD WITH THIS VEHICLE- JUST A MONTH BEFORE HAD TO REPAIR SAFETY ISSUE OF STABILITRAK TURNING ON AT RANDOM, AFTER TWICE IT SLOWED MY VEHICLE- WITHOUT WARNING- ON THE THRUWAY FROM 55 MPH TO ABOUT 20 MPH. I HAD DOCUMENTATION OF 4 TRIPS TO DEALER FOR THIS CONCERN WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP BUT "THE COMPUTER DOESN'T SHOW A PROBLEM" SO 5 YEARS LATER I FINALLY HAD THE CODE SHOW UP AFTER A CLOSE CALL ALMOST ACCIDENT. THIS CONCERN IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET AS WELL & EVEN WITH CONTACTING CHEVROLET & THE NYS ATTORNEY GENERAL THEY STILL ONLY COVERED HALF THE COST OF THE REPAIR. CHEVROLET NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE SAFETY OF THEIR PRODUCTS AND OBVIOUSLY WILL NOT UNLESS RECALLS ARE MANDATED- I URGE YOU TO DO JUST THAT. THANK YOU *TR

Sep 24, 2015

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer and GMC Envoy vehicles, and 2006 GMC Envoy XL and Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT vehicles. Fluid may enter into the driver's door master power window switch module, causing corrosion that could result in a short in the circuit board, causing window switches to become inoperative. Previously, the affected vehicles may have had their master power window switch module treated with a protective coating, instead of having it replaced.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: The protective coating may not eliminate the risk that the circuit board could short and result in a fire, even while the vehicle is unattended.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install a new driver's door switch module, free of charge. The recall began on November 2, 2015. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 15700.

Aug 14, 2015

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2006-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2007 Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT, GMC Envoy XL, 2006-2008 Isuzu Ascender, and Saab 9-7x vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the headlamp driver module (HDM) may overheat and fail, causing the headlamps and daytime running lights to not illuminate.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Headlamps that do not illuminate reduce the driver's ability to see the roadway and reduce the vehicle's visibility to oncoming vehicles, both of which increase the risk of a vehicle crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the HDM, free of charge. The recall began on May 17, 2016. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14291.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2007 SAAB 9-7x; 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL; and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier and Isuzu Ascender vehicles. Fluid may enter the driver's door master power window switch module, causing corrosion that could result in a short in the circuit board. A short may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or become inoperative. The short may also cause overheating, which could melt components of the door module, producing odor, smoke, or a fire.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A short in the circuit board could lead to a fire, increasing the risk of personal injury. A fire could occur even while the vehicle is not in use. As a precaution, owners are advised to park outside until the remedy has been made.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the part number on the door module, and install a new door module if necessary, free of charge. Parts for the remedy are not currently available. An interim letter was mailed to owners in August 2014. A second owner letter will be mailed when parts are available. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-462-8782 (GMC), 1-800-955-9007 (SAAB), and 1-800-255-6727 (Isuzu). GM's number for this recall is 14309. NOTE: This recall provides a new remedy for all vehicles covered by recall 13V-248. Vehicles whose modules were modified but not replaced as part of the previous recall remedy must have their vehicles remedied again under this campaign.

Oct 31, 2006

CERTAIN VEHICLES ORIGINALLY BUILT WITH CLOTH SEATS THAT WERE EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATIC AIR BAG PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM AND LATER REUPHOLSTERED WITH AFTERMARKET LEATHER SEAT COVER KITS ARE INVOLVED. TESTING HAS INDICATED THAT THE AFTERMARKET LEATHER SEAT COVERS CAN CAUSE THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM TO MALFUNCTION.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: IF THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS, THE FRONT AIR BAG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE MAY BE DISABLED WHEN IT SHOULD BE ENABLED, OR ENABLED WHEN IT SHOULD BE DISABLED. IN EITHER CASE, IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH THAT REQUIRES AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, A FRONT PASSENGER'S LEVEL OF INJURY MAY BE INCREASED.

Remedy: BECAUSE A REPLACEMENT LEATHER SEAT COVER THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM IS NOT AVAILABLE, GENERAL MOTORS (GM) WILL REPURCHASE THESE VEHICLES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TERMS STATED IN GM'S LETTER TO OWNERS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 6, 2006. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT GM AT 1-877-477-1022 TO BEGIN THE PROCESS OF REPURCHASING THEIR VEHICLE.

RQ17002 · Loss Of Headlights

Opened Apr 24, 2017 · Closed Mar 29, 2021

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Exterior Lighting:headlights

The subject vehicles are model year (MY) 2002-2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, 2004-2007 Buick Rainier, 2003-2008 Isuzu Ascender, 2005-2009 Saab 9-7X, 2002-2004 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2003-2006 Chevrolet SSR, 2005-2009 Buick Lacrosse, and 2006-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix. This scope includes the Trailblazer/Envoy variants: 2002-2006 Envoy XL/Trailblazer EXT and 2004-2005 Envoy XUV. The original scope of this investigation was expanded to include all vehicles equipped with the subject Headlight Driver Module (HDM). The focus of the investigation was to determine whether actions performed by General Motors adequately addressed any unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety in the subject vehicles concerning the headlights and the HDM that controls them.Under normal electrical load and environmental conditions, the HDM can overheat inside the Underhood Electrical Center (UEC). This can cause the module to fail and result in a simultaneous loss of both low beam headlights and both daytime running lights (DRLs), often with no warning or prior detectability to the driver. This failure can be intermittent or permanent. No other exterior lights are affected. High beams, turn signals, brake lights, and reverse lights are still operational.General Motors addressed this issue with 2 recalls (14V755 & 15V519) and a special coverage program (N172091910). In view of the recalls and special coverage program implemented by GM and the vehicle high beams continuing to operate, ODI has tentatively concluded that the actions taken by GM mitigate any unreasonable risk to safety posed by HDM failure in the subject vehicles.Accordingly, the investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by new circumstances. The ODI reports cited above are available for review online at NHTSA.gov under the identification numbers in the attached document.

EA12004 · Driver's Master Power Window Switch

Opened Jun 11, 2012 · Closed Jun 21, 2013

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Electrical System; Visibility:power Window Devices And Controls

On August 15, 2012 General Motors (GM) announced a regional recall action (12V-406) involving model year (MY) 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, Isuzu Ascender and MY2005-2007 SAAB 9-7x vehicles originally sold or currently registered in the salt belt states of Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia. The recall remedy requires the inspection and repair or replacement of the master power window switch, which GM refers to as a driver door module (DDM). At the same time, GM implemented a special coverage program to replace failed DDMs for vehicles registered outside of these states. ODI was not satisfied with GM's exclusion of non-salt belt vehicles and continued its investigation. On June 13, 2013, GM submitted a related recall notification (13V-248) to reclassify the initial special coverage program into a safety recall for vehicles that were not previously repaired under special coverage. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Engineering Analysis EA12-004 on June 11, 2012 to further investigate allegations of DDM thermal incidents in model year (MY) 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer vehicles. Thermal incidents involve cases where fire-related events such as smoke and melt are present. ODI has received 170 reports alleging a thermal event occurred. Complainants stated that the DDM melted and in some cases produced odor and/or smoke. Fourteen of these incidents led to a fire where visible flames were reported or the damage extended significantly beyond the DDM. In addition to the 170 reports listed above, ODI received 63 reports alleging the DDM acted erratically or became inoperative. In response to ODI's Information Request (IR), GM provided 619 unique consumer complaints that related to the alleged problem. Seventy-seven of those reports led to a fire with flame, and 4 reported injuries of smoke inhalation and/or slight burns from contact with hot switches. GM also submitted 20,400 warranty claims for replacement of the DDM, most of which involved inoperative switches. The problem condition is caused by fluids, such as rain water, entering the driver's door module and subsequently causing corrosion that could result in an electrical short in the printed circuit board. A short may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or become inoperative. However, the electrical short may also cause overheating that could melt components of the door module, producing odor, smoke or in some cases fire with flame. The circuit board was redesigned and GM implemented the new design into vehicle production on May 14, 2007. All failures cited above occurred in vehicles produced before this build date (i.e., with the original design DDM). GM also reported that all MY 2006-2007 GMT360/370 platform vehicles and MY 2005 SAAB 9-7x vehicles utilized the same DDM and therefore ODI expanded the subject population to include these vehicles. This investigation is closed on the basis of GM's announcement of safety recalls 12V-406 and 13V-248. The ODI complaints cited above can be reviewed at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID, see the attached list for ODI numbers.
