MY HUSBAND AND I WERE TRAVELING HOME FROM A WEEKEND OUT OF STATE. WE WERE COMING INTO CHICAGO TRAVELING TOWARDS WISCONSIN WHERE WE LIVE. JUST BEFORE THE FIRST TOLL BOOTH ON I80/I94 TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, WE HIT A SLIGHT BUMP IN THE ROAD AND LOST ALL POWER TO THE CAR. WE MANAGED TO COAST THE CAR OVER FROM THE FAR LEFT LANE OF A 5 LANE HIGHWAY TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF THE ROAD OUT OF HARMS WAY. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A FIRESTONE DEALERSHIP ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON; WE WERE TOLD AFTER A SYSTEMS ANALYSIS WAS COMPLETED THAT THE CAR WOULD HAVE TO BE TOWED TO A GM DEALERSHIP. THE CLOSEST WAS IN HOMEWOOD, IL. AFTER GM FIXED THE CAR, I ASKED WHAT WOULD CAUSE SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO HAPPEN. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP, IT IS SOMETHING THAT JUST HAPPENS. KNOWING THE GRAVITY OF WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED, THIS IS VERY UPSETTING. I REALLY BELIEVE THE TRAILBLAZER SHOULD BE ALSO NOTED ON THE GM RECALL OF AUTOS BEFORE ANOTHER FAMILY HAS TO EXPERIENCE WHAT MINE DID OR WORSE. THANK YOU *JS

MY WIFE WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK. SHE STARTED HER CAR AND BACKED UP, WENT TO SHIFT TO DRIVE AND SOMETHING BROKE STRANDING HE IN A EMPTY PARKING LOT ON A SATURDAY. SHE WAS IN A TRAFFIC LANE AND BLOCKING THE HANDICAP PARKING SPACE. I HAVE OWNED CARS FOR MANY YEARS AND NEVER HAD SUCH A THING HAPPEN. WHY DID YOU MAKE AN ALL STEEL CABLE AND MOUNTINGS AND THEN PUT A TINY PLASTIC END ON IT THAT BRAKES ALL THE TIME. THE PARTS HOUSE AND THE SERVICE SHOPS ALL SAID IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME AND YOU MUST BUY A REPLACEMENT FROM THE DEALER. THEY KNOW IT IS A PROBLEM AS THEY MUST STOCK THE CABLE ASSEMBLIES THAT COST A LOT TO CHANGE. PLEASE REDESIGN THEM AND CHANGE THE PLASTIC END TO A STAINLESS STEEL END AND RETROFIT ALL CARS, SUV'S AND TRUCKS THAT USE THIS PART. *TR

MY WIFE, DAUGHTER AND MYSELF WERE DRIVING ON IDAHO STATE HIGHWAY 70, A NARROW, WINDING, TWO-LANE ROAD WITH LITTLE TO NO SHOULDER, WHEN THE MOTOR STOPPED AND ILOST ALL POWER-BRAKES, STEERING ETC. I WAS FORTUNATELY ABLE TO STEER THE CAR OVER TO A WIDE SPOT ON THE SHOULDER AND STOP. I WAS UNABLE TO RE-START THE BLAZER AND CALLED AAA TO HAVE IT HAULED TO KNUDTSEN CHEVROLET IN COEUR D'ALENE, IDAHO. IN ANOTHER HALF HOUR WE WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING 70 MPH ON INTERSTATE AND THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTEROUS IF THE CAR HAD FAILED THEN IN HIGH VOLUME TRAFFIC. THE NEXT DAY I WAS ADVISED BY KNUDTSEN THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS THE PROBLEM. I WROTE A FOLLOW-UP LETTER TO THE OWNER AND THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED A FEW DAYS LATER INDICATING THAT SINCE MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED NEITHER GM NOR KNUDTSEN COULD HELP ME WITH THE $268 CHARGE FOR REPLACING THE SWITCH. SINCE THEN I HAVE BEEN TOLD GM AND KNUDTSEN WOULD SPLIT THE COST THREE WAYS SINCE I WAS A LONG-TIME CUSTOMER (THREE BLAZERS). I HAVE NOT YET RECEIVED ANY REIMBURSEMENT AS OF THIS DATE. IS THIS POSSIBLY ANOTHER CAR WHICH SHOULD BE ON THE RECALL LIST? *TR

EVERY TIME THAT I STOP AT A STOPLIGHT AND START TO GO, THE OIL PRESSURE DROPS TO ZERO, THE CHECK GAUGES LIGHT COMES ON AND MESSAGE SAYS OIL PRESSURE LOW AND IT CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO ACT UP AND DRIVE EXTREMELY SLOW, SOMETIMES CAUSING IT TO SHUT OFF OR GO INTO SHUT DOWN MODE. I GOOGLED THIS ISSUE TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM THAT CAUSES THIS AND SEEN THAT SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE THIS ISSUE WITH THE TRAILBLAZERS. I SPOKE WITH A GM CERTIFIED MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THE TRAILBLAZER AND SAID ITS EITHER FAULTY WIRING OR OIL SENDING UNIT. THIS ISSUE IS VERY DANGEROUS TO HAVE HAPPEN AND COULD (AND PROBABLY HAS) CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR SOMEONE TO BE STRANDED. WITH SO MANY PEOPLE HAVING THIS ISSUE, THERE IS NO WAY ITS JUST A COINCIDENCE. WHATEVER THE PROBLEM IS THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR GM. I HOPE THIS ISSUE IS THOROUGHLY INVESTIGATED AND SOMETHING IS DONE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THANKS *TR

I JUST WANT TO GET SOME INFORMATION OUT THERE ON MY EXPERIENCE: BATTERY REPLACEMENT SEEM WAYS TOO OFTEN 8/2008, 10/2010, 9/2013 - AND THERE IS NO NOTICE UNTIL YOU CANNOT START IT ONE DAY. FIRST THING TO GO WAS THE IDLE PULLEY. I HAVE HAD THE WATER PUMP/THERMOSTAT/BELTS REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES 50K, 60K, 87K. HEADLIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS REPLACED AT LEAST 3 TIMES EACH. I HAVE HAD TO CLEAN THE THROTTLE BLOCK PLATE MULTIPLE TIMES OR THE TB WILL STALL WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED OR HEAT/AC ON. I HAVE COME TO FIND OUT THAT THERE ARE MANY NON-OEM PARTS WHICH I NEVER REPLACED (I PURCHASED USED W/17K MILES) AND NOTHING SHOWED UP ON CAR FAX OR OTHER REPORTS ABOUT ACCIDENTS OR REPAIRS. I HAD THE GAS GUAGE/TANK/FLOAT REPAIRED WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY STILL AND THEN A YEAR LATER IT BROKE AGAIN, AND I AM STILL RIDING WITH IT BROKEN (AT LEAST THE LAST 5 YEARS), WHICH OF COURSE KEEPS MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON NEARLY ALL THE TIME. I JUST LOCATED THE NOTICE THAT GM IS NOW DOING 100% OF THE REPAIR AND I WILL BE MAKING AN APPOINTMENT TO GET IT FIXED AS I WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION AND I NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE. I FILL EVERY 200 MILES. THERE ARE OTHER MINOR ISSUES SUCH AS INTERIOR LIGHTS GOING OUT, BOTH OF THE FRONT SEATS HAVE DETACHED FROM THE SIDE MOLDING (ONLY 1 LITTLE SCREW HOLDS THEM IN), THE REAR WASHER HAS NOT WORKED IN ABOUT 6 YEARS. I ALSO HAVE LOUD NOISES COMING OUT OF THE TIRES/WHEELS AND NO ONE CAN DETERMINE AN EXACT CAUSE, BUT IT'S NOT THE BRAKES OR ROTORS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. I CURRENTLY HAVE UNDER 89K MILES. I AM WAITING FOR THE DOOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TO GO NEXT AS THAT SEEMS LIKE WHAT IS NEXT ON THE LIST OF TB ISSUES. *TR

MY OIL IS CHANGED AT REGULAR INTERVALS, AT THE SAME SHOP, SINCE I'VE OWNED IT. THE OIL LIGHT/SENSOR DIDN'T COME ON. THE ONSTAR REPORT DOESN'T SHOW ANY LOW OIL LEVEL. MAYBE THIS IS A BUILT IN FEATURE FROM CHEVROLET - THE "THROW A ROD IN THE ENGINE INDUCTION SYSTEM"!!! VEHICLE IS ALWAYS SERVICED AT THE DEALER, BUT THEY USUALLY DON'T FIND ANYTHING WORTH FIXING UNTIL YOU BILL CAN COME OUT TO AT LEAST $1000. THE TV COMMERCIALS THEY RUN ABOUT CHEVY TRUCKS ARE "LIKE A ROCK" ARE VERY TRUE. THIS TRAILBLAZER IS AS USELESS AS A ROCK. *TR

Sep 24, 2015

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer and GMC Envoy vehicles, and 2006 GMC Envoy XL and Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT vehicles. Fluid may enter into the driver's door master power window switch module, causing corrosion that could result in a short in the circuit board, causing window switches to become inoperative. Previously, the affected vehicles may have had their master power window switch module treated with a protective coating, instead of having it replaced.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: The protective coating may not eliminate the risk that the circuit board could short and result in a fire, even while the vehicle is unattended.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install a new driver's door switch module, free of charge. The recall began on November 2, 2015. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 15700.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2006-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2007 Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT, GMC Envoy XL, 2006-2008 Isuzu Ascender, and Saab 9-7x vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the headlamp driver module (HDM) may overheat and fail, causing the headlamps and daytime running lights to not illuminate.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Headlamps that do not illuminate reduce the driver's ability to see the roadway and reduce the vehicle's visibility to oncoming vehicles, both of which increase the risk of a vehicle crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the HDM, free of charge. The recall began on May 17, 2016. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14291.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2007 SAAB 9-7x; 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL; and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier and Isuzu Ascender vehicles. Fluid may enter the driver's door master power window switch module, causing corrosion that could result in a short in the circuit board. A short may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or become inoperative. The short may also cause overheating, which could melt components of the door module, producing odor, smoke, or a fire.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A short in the circuit board could lead to a fire, increasing the risk of personal injury. A fire could occur even while the vehicle is not in use. As a precaution, owners are advised to park outside until the remedy has been made.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the part number on the door module, and install a new door module if necessary, free of charge. Parts for the remedy are not currently available. An interim letter was mailed to owners in August 2014. A second owner letter will be mailed when parts are available. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-462-8782 (GMC), 1-800-955-9007 (SAAB), and 1-800-255-6727 (Isuzu). GM's number for this recall is 14309. NOTE: This recall provides a new remedy for all vehicles covered by recall 13V-248. Vehicles whose modules were modified but not replaced as part of the previous recall remedy must have their vehicles remedied again under this campaign.

Oct 31, 2006

CERTAIN VEHICLES ORIGINALLY BUILT WITH CLOTH SEATS THAT WERE EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATIC AIR BAG PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM AND LATER REUPHOLSTERED WITH AFTERMARKET LEATHER SEAT COVER KITS ARE INVOLVED. TESTING HAS INDICATED THAT THE AFTERMARKET LEATHER SEAT COVERS CAN CAUSE THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM TO MALFUNCTION.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: IF THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS, THE FRONT AIR BAG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE MAY BE DISABLED WHEN IT SHOULD BE ENABLED, OR ENABLED WHEN IT SHOULD BE DISABLED. IN EITHER CASE, IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH THAT REQUIRES AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, A FRONT PASSENGER'S LEVEL OF INJURY MAY BE INCREASED.

Remedy: BECAUSE A REPLACEMENT LEATHER SEAT COVER THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM IS NOT AVAILABLE, GENERAL MOTORS (GM) WILL REPURCHASE THESE VEHICLES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TERMS STATED IN GM'S LETTER TO OWNERS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 6, 2006. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT GM AT 1-877-477-1022 TO BEGIN THE PROCESS OF REPURCHASING THEIR VEHICLE.

CERTAIN TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 110, "TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS." THESE VEHICLES WERE SHIPPED WITH TIRE AND LOADING INFORMATION LABELS LISTING AN INACCCURATE VEHICLE CAPACITY WEIGHT.

Consequence & remedy

RQ17002 · Loss Of Headlights

Opened Apr 24, 2017 · Closed Mar 29, 2021

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Exterior Lighting:headlights

The subject vehicles are model year (MY) 2002-2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, 2004-2007 Buick Rainier, 2003-2008 Isuzu Ascender, 2005-2009 Saab 9-7X, 2002-2004 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2003-2006 Chevrolet SSR, 2005-2009 Buick Lacrosse, and 2006-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix. This scope includes the Trailblazer/Envoy variants: 2002-2006 Envoy XL/Trailblazer EXT and 2004-2005 Envoy XUV. The original scope of this investigation was expanded to include all vehicles equipped with the subject Headlight Driver Module (HDM). The focus of the investigation was to determine whether actions performed by General Motors adequately addressed any unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety in the subject vehicles concerning the headlights and the HDM that controls them.Under normal electrical load and environmental conditions, the HDM can overheat inside the Underhood Electrical Center (UEC). This can cause the module to fail and result in a simultaneous loss of both low beam headlights and both daytime running lights (DRLs), often with no warning or prior detectability to the driver. This failure can be intermittent or permanent. No other exterior lights are affected. High beams, turn signals, brake lights, and reverse lights are still operational.General Motors addressed this issue with 2 recalls (14V755 & 15V519) and a special coverage program (N172091910). In view of the recalls and special coverage program implemented by GM and the vehicle high beams continuing to operate, ODI has tentatively concluded that the actions taken by GM mitigate any unreasonable risk to safety posed by HDM failure in the subject vehicles.Accordingly, the investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by new circumstances. The ODI reports cited above are available for review online at NHTSA.gov under the identification numbers in the attached document.

EA12004 · Driver's Master Power Window Switch

Opened Jun 11, 2012 · Closed Jun 21, 2013

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Electrical System; Visibility:power Window Devices And Controls

On August 15, 2012 General Motors (GM) announced a regional recall action (12V-406) involving model year (MY) 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, Isuzu Ascender and MY2005-2007 SAAB 9-7x vehicles originally sold or currently registered in the salt belt states of Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia. The recall remedy requires the inspection and repair or replacement of the master power window switch, which GM refers to as a driver door module (DDM). At the same time, GM implemented a special coverage program to replace failed DDMs for vehicles registered outside of these states. ODI was not satisfied with GM's exclusion of non-salt belt vehicles and continued its investigation. On June 13, 2013, GM submitted a related recall notification (13V-248) to reclassify the initial special coverage program into a safety recall for vehicles that were not previously repaired under special coverage. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Engineering Analysis EA12-004 on June 11, 2012 to further investigate allegations of DDM thermal incidents in model year (MY) 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer vehicles. Thermal incidents involve cases where fire-related events such as smoke and melt are present. ODI has received 170 reports alleging a thermal event occurred. Complainants stated that the DDM melted and in some cases produced odor and/or smoke. Fourteen of these incidents led to a fire where visible flames were reported or the damage extended significantly beyond the DDM. In addition to the 170 reports listed above, ODI received 63 reports alleging the DDM acted erratically or became inoperative. In response to ODI's Information Request (IR), GM provided 619 unique consumer complaints that related to the alleged problem. Seventy-seven of those reports led to a fire with flame, and 4 reported injuries of smoke inhalation and/or slight burns from contact with hot switches. GM also submitted 20,400 warranty claims for replacement of the DDM, most of which involved inoperative switches. The problem condition is caused by fluids, such as rain water, entering the driver's door module and subsequently causing corrosion that could result in an electrical short in the printed circuit board. A short may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or become inoperative. However, the electrical short may also cause overheating that could melt components of the door module, producing odor, smoke or in some cases fire with flame. The circuit board was redesigned and GM implemented the new design into vehicle production on May 14, 2007. All failures cited above occurred in vehicles produced before this build date (i.e., with the original design DDM). GM also reported that all MY 2006-2007 GMT360/370 platform vehicles and MY 2005 SAAB 9-7x vehicles utilized the same DDM and therefore ODI expanded the subject population to include these vehicles. This investigation is closed on the basis of GM's announcement of safety recalls 12V-406 and 13V-248. The ODI complaints cited above can be reviewed at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID, see the attached list for ODI numbers.
