My 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe (VIN: [XXX]) suffered a catastrophic failure of the 6.2L V8 L87 engine assembly — specifically the connecting rod and crankshaft components — at freeway speeds on [XXX], just 9 days after purchase. The original failed engine is no longer available for inspection as it was removed and returned as a core by Shaheen Chevrolet in Lansing, MI as part of the warranty replacement process. The only symptom prior to failure was a brief squeaking noise that began approximately 0.5 miles before the engine failed. No warning lamps, messages, or other indicators appeared at any point before the failure. The engine then failed suddenly and completely at freeway speed, causing immediate loss of propulsion. My family was left stranded in an unsafe roadside location until a tow truck arrived. Sudden loss of power at freeway speeds creates significant risk of collision for both the vehicle's occupants and surrounding motorists. The failure was inspected and confirmed by Shaheen Chevrolet as a GM manufacturing defect involving the connecting rod and crankshaft. No police, insurance representatives, or GM field engineers inspected the vehicle beyond the dealership. GM authorized a full engine replacement under Special Coverage warranty (10 years/150,000 miles). The replacement engine (GM part #12740076) was on national backorder for over two months due to supplier capacity constraints. A loaner vehicle was provided during that time. This failure occurred despite a prior GM recall addressing the same rod/crankshaft defect having been performed on this vehicle. The recall remedy was ineffective. I have no confidence the replacement engine will not fail again. With approximately 597,630 vehicles affected, this represents a serious and ongoing public safety risk. My vehicle, 2023 Tahoe, previously had the GM Recall 25V-274 / N252494001 remedy performed (0W-40 oil swap) in October of 2025. Despite completing the manufacturer's official recall remedy, the engine suffered a sudden, dangerous loss of motive power at highway speeds when I was making an out of state move and traveling alone; it was terrifying. I had to have it towed to the nearest dealership and that is where it is now as I had to leave since I was in the middle of moving. I need a new engine. I have no idea how I will get my Tahoe to my new residence or when. The dealership was not open on Sundays so I had to find a place to stay after leaving my Tahoe full of my items and my bike. I was so afraid it would be broken into. I had an oil pressure warning right before the engine completely stalled. And, I was accelerating up an incline and it felt like my Tahoe couldn't get enough power to make the incline. My Tahoe only has 35,047 miles, and threw the Diagnostic Trouble Code P0016 through my ONSTAR app as well as with the tech at the dealership. And, I am having a lot of trouble with GM corporate with rental cars. I had to pay out of pocket in order to get back on the road with my belongings as I start a new job this week at my new home. I had to leave some belongings and my bike with my Tahoe at the dealership.

When GM announced the recall involving the potential for catastrophic engine failure, I immediately contacted Bridgewater Chevrolet in NJ to schedule the required recall inspection. I was told the dealership could not perform the inspection because it had not yet received the required 'diagnostic tool' from GM. Once they received the equipment, they contacted me and on Oct 1, 2025, they completed the required recall inspection and informed me that my Tahoe had passed the recall inspection and that the vehicle was safe to continue driving. On XXX while driving over the Driscoll Bridge on the [XXX] with my daughter and our dog, the engine catastrophically failed without warning as I began to exit on exit [XXX] to [XXX] into heavy traffic. With no warning, the vehicle flashed that it was in neutral and then suddenly lost all power and stopped completely in a traffic lane, creating an extremely dangerous situation. After a few mins, I was able to get it started briefly, enough to coast along to a spot a few hundred feet away where there was a shoulder. From there the wheels locked and it would not move at all and windows would not open. It had to be dragged completely inoperable with locked wheels onto a flatbed three separate times. It was first dragged and flat bedded off the Parkway to a place we felt unsafe so we stayed locked in the car in July heat with no windows down, then to my mechanic and then to the dealership. I am unsure of the damage that may have caused. The dealership received the vehicle on XXX and within a day told me that it was indeed what my mechanic and they suspected - the catastrophic failure recall they had inspected and passed the vehicle for. Today driving two kids home from our football practice I was driving along at around 40mph and all of a sudden the transmission downshifted and almost locked the rear tires up. If it was winter, wet, or cool, there is no doubt that the tires would have locked up. Check engine light came on, and now the vehicle wont move in reverse and at around 45-50 mph the engine is running at 3,000 rpms. I volunteer to be a youth football coach and always have a car full of children. This isn't normal or safe. P.s. I should've bought the Ford Expedition.

My 2023 Tahoe HC 6.2L VIN Passed the Catastrophic Engine Safety Recall stating my Engine was SAFE. The dealership performed a change in oil velocity per GM's directives. Then the engine seized upon accelerating. No warnings, just dead, yet able to coast through a large intersection on a -20F day where NOTHING worked on the vehicle. Even though the engine would not turn over when hitting the Start button, it would only allow 15 minutes worth of Emergency Flashers before the sensors shut the vehicle completely down. We had to abandon the vehicle on the side of the road, with key fob in this NEW vehicle, hike to safety, and for warmth. Total mess up as how to tow the vehicle, even when I advised NOTHING (but SiriusXM) worked and could not put vehicle into Neutral. Had to wait almost a month for a Replacement Engine. Once Replacement Engine installed, I expressed how my vehicle did not feel, nor sound the same as the original. The dealership ensured that it was a 6.2L Engine Replacement, without being able to tell me where it came from, how many miles on it, or the serial number to this new engine. I was told to give it 500-1000 miles to allow Replacement Engine to "settle". Exactly 300 miles in, on the expressway, just coming out of a bottle neck slowdown, I got up to around 45-50 mph and it was like I hit an invisible wall! Vehicle lost propulsion. Seat belts locked. No brake lights since I was accelerating. Extremely thankful nobody was behind me. Obviously let go of the gas. Pause. Then I was able to drive the vehicle to a safe location off of the expressway, and shut it down. Immediately called dealer. Restarted, drove about 15 miles to safety, went to shut off and it would NOT turn off. Sounded as if trying to start it while already running. 20 min to turn off. 5 months at dealer, they could not mimic/see any issues, even though I could "feel" the loss of propulsion at lower speeds. Reproducible on demand, multiple times per drive, on video. Highest-speed event ~50 mph, family aboard. NO advance warning: no check engine light, no message, no stored code, no gradual onset. Traction control sometimes activates at the instant of the skid, sometimes not — always reacting to traction already lost, never before. A driver has no opportunity to anticipate or react. THIS IS A LOSS-OF-CONTROL HAZARD. It is especially dangerous in a turn, on wet pavement, or in traffic. Onset May 2026. Pursued repair since, across three shops: an independent, twice (no codes/leaks/abnormal findings; MAF replaced; unresolved; referred to dealer), then a GM dealer 3 days (test drove 34+ miles, no codes, fluid good, all shifts correct; declined recommended control-module recalibration, cause unconfirmed). Lockup recurred within 5 miles of leaving, same day; I returned immediately, asked for a tech ride-along while fresh — did not occur. Next day, a second GM dealer: tech note said fluid was low, though the same RO's inspection passed that fluid and found no leak; no leak ever identified anywhere. Paid $672 for a fluid exchange — unresolved. Days later, same dealer measured 265F on a 30-mile road test and condemned the transmission. Full replacement underway, largely out of pocket. Symptom matches recall 26V-085 (momentary rear wheel lockup, worn control valve, 10-speed/ETRS) covering 2022 models. My 2023 is not included. I am not asserting a diagnosis — no one has established the cause — but I ask ODI to consider whether that campaign should include additional model years. While traveling out of town on the highway,we had a sudden loss of power. My vehicle wouldn’t accelerate or shift. My check engine light came on and a message displayed that said something about reduced power. After limping to a dealership while in another city, I managed to wait hours for my husband to pick me and my children up. We waited several days for the dealership to tell us it was the valve body that needed replaced. My vehicle was NOT in the original recall for the valve body, although we experienced the exact same issues that the recalled vehicles experienced. This entire experience was horrifying. Along a stretch of highway that I was unfamiliar with, speed limits of 80mph, and a sudden, complete loss of motor power and speed, this could have someone. I had a vibration while staying at any constant speed for months prior to this, I had taken the vehicle in numerous times but was told the only thing to fix it was a software repair and that wouldn’t take care of the problem entirely. This vibration was and still is so bad that my phone will fall from the magnetic mount if I don’t let off the accelerator or increase acceleration. My vehicle still doesn’t seem to run properly but I am unable to get it to reproduce any issues when at the dealership. Extremely unnerving to travel with my family out of town or state and wonder if my fairly new vehicle will make it.

We purchase the vehicle in February of 26’. Certified preowned they a Chevrolet dealership. It was disclosed to us that the engine had been recalled and replaced in September of 25’ (had about 1500 miles put on it, before we bought it) due to the ongoing issues that plague the V8 6.2L motors. We put less than 3000 miles on the vehicle and wanted to take it in for oil change and new tires. My wife had heard a rattling/ticking sound and wanted the dealership’s service department to check it out. They test drove the vehicle and immediately told us that this second engine needed to be replaced with less than 4,500 miles on it. We’ve now had a loaner for almost 7 weeks while we wait for a new 6.2 liter engine that no one is even sure won’t have the same thing happen to it that the first two engines had happen. GM needs to correct this issue. I read that over 1100 6.2 liter engines are on back order. This is unacceptable.

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021 Cadillac Escalade, 2021, 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, and 2022 and 2024 GMC Yukon vehicles equipped with a 6-cylinder diesel engine. The original fuel tank may have been replaced with an incorrect fuel tank, which can allow fuel to leak in a rollover crash.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a vehicle fire.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect for the correct fuel tank and replace it, if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 5, 2025. Consequence: A broken suspension bolt can result in misalignment of the rear wheel, increasing the risk of a crash.

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Cadillac CT4 and CT5; 2021-2023 Buick Envision; and 2022-2023 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles. The daytime running lights (DRLs) may not deactivate when the headlights are on. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: DRLs that do not deactivate as intended may result in a glare, reducing visibility, and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: The body control module software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 23, 2023. On January 16, 2026, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Recall Query RQ26001.  This investigation was opened to assess the remedy effectiveness of Recall 25V-274. ODI has received complaints alleging engine failure in vehicles after the recall remedy had been completed, whether that remedy involved an oil viscosity change or a complete engine replacement. General Motors (GM) issued Recall 25V-274 to address concerns of engine failure in the L87 engines produced between March 1, 2021 and May 31, 2024. GM cited the root cause as a supplier manufacturing and quality issue. GM’s recall remedy for Recall 25V-274 consisted of two different repairs, either an oil viscosity change or an engine replacement, based on the results of the remedy inspection procedure. ODI continues to receive reports of engine failures after the completion of the recall remedy. To date, ODI has received 499 complaints alleging post-remedy engine failure in vehicles subject to Recall 25V-274, 473 of which involved an oil viscosity change and 26 a complete engine replacement. Additionally, ODI has received 191 reports of L87 engine failures in engines produced after the production period cited in Recall 25V-274. GM reported receiving 6,953 complaints of post-remedy engine failure. ODI is opening this Engineering Analysisto continue investigating complaints of post-remedy engine failure. Of the 1,157 reports received, 173 are outside of the scope of recall 25V-274.
