I was pulling out onto the road and heard a noise in the front and right after my upper ball joint snapped completely off folding the tire underneath the truck and smashing the whole front end. Very lucky I was not on the highway. Had truck towed into my shop where after examination part failed prematurely. My insurance paid for it all which was just short of $10,000 in damage minus my $500 deductible and the tow bill. Now I have lost my safe driving deduction because of this claim, which caused my insurance to skyrocket. There were no prior warning signs, and I have my vehicle serviced and inspected regularly at my service provider.

On 09/25/25 at 59,502 miles recall work was completed per NHTSA Recall No. 25V-274, L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion. Dealer paperwork shows that my truck passed the PicoScope inspection and was given the higher viscosity 0W-40 oil. On 12/10/25 at 63,904 miles, with the oil that was changed during the inspection; while traveling on highway NM-52 towing my travel trailer, I experienced a sudden loss of propulsion resulting in my truck stopping in the middle of the roadway. No prior indications of any issues were noted, no check engine lights, no loss of oil pressure, when loss of propulsion occurred. While in the middle of the road I attempted to restart the truck with no start-up. Using gravity, the truck was slowly moved off of the highway backwards. Upon opening the engine hood, a strong odor of burnt engine oil was present. No oil was noted coming out from the engine. When removing the engine oil dip stick it was noted to be steaming and extremely hot to the touch. Due to the location the vehicle it took 2 days to be taken to the dealer. No local vendors were able to pick up the truck to take to the dealer resulting in it having to be personally trailered to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to Bravo Chevrolet and Cadillac in Las Cruces NM. The dealer evaluation of the truck determine that the engine had seized and was replaced under the extended warranty per the same listed recall. This engine failed after passing the required inspections and while utilizing the newly recommended engine oil. This failure could have resulted in an accident due to the nature of the failure, after being led to believe that there were no longer any issues or concerns after passing inspection. Why would there be a failure at that time if the engine passed inspection per the recall? Only cause would be that the remedy action is not properly addressing or correcting the root cause of the failures in these L87 engines.

I noticed a significant fuel mileage drop from mid 20 to low 14 on long highway drives. I had an oil change done and drove 500 miles the next day and there was just a trace of oil on the dipstick. I called my chevy dealership and they said that is normal for oil consumption. I topped off the oil before heading back home and used 3/4 of a quart. I am watching my oil consumption and looking to do an oil consumption test done by the dealership. They did not recommend this test I researched it. I am concerned my engine will blow up.

On April 29, 2025 we took our truck in for these 3 recalls Serial Data Gateway Module • N242435631 -Fuel Injector Flow Rate• N242450630 - Park Assist Retrofit - Exp 05/31/27• N222375790. We picked the truck up and had no issues. Then on November 28, 2025 our fuel injector 2 went out. According to articles we have found the recall for the fuel injector flow rate specifically addresses the ECM not controlling fuel injector flow rates and because it was not doing this correctly it put added stress on the fuel injector #2. We took the vehicle to Ken Garf Chevrolet American Fork Utah and they diagnosed the issue as the fuel injector 2 being bad. They quoted us with parts 2000 dollars to fix it. After researching this recall information we took the vehicle to Sky Chevrolet in Provo Utah where we got the vehicle and where it was serviced in April and asked them to look into the fix. They are telling us that they cannot find any correlation between the fuel injector flow rate and the fuel injector 2 going out so they are wanting $600 dollars to fix the fuel injector flow rate. The next thing since the N242435631 update was performed, the automated clock on longer syncs. This is a known side effect of the gateway module update. We were again told that they could find no correlation between the clock and the recall. When doing research we found that that the 2 are very much connected. I would also like to complain about Ken Garf and how they "diagnosed" an issue we told them was already there. I would like to refunded the 200 dollars for the diagnostic fee.

On January 16, 2026, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Recall Query RQ26001. This investigation was opened to assess the remedy effectiveness of Recall 25V-274. ODI has received complaints alleging engine failure in vehicles after the recall remedy had been completed, whether that remedy involved an oil viscosity change or a complete engine replacement. General Motors (GM) issued Recall 25V-274 to address concerns of engine failure in the L87 engines produced between March 1, 2021 and May 31, 2024. GM cited the root cause as a supplier manufacturing and quality issue. GM’s recall remedy for Recall 25V-274 consisted of two different repairs, either an oil viscosity change or an engine replacement, based on the results of the remedy inspection procedure. ODI continues to receive reports of engine failures after the completion of the recall remedy. To date, ODI has received 499 complaints alleging post-remedy engine failure in vehicles subject to Recall 25V-274, 473 of which involved an oil viscosity change and 26 a complete engine replacement. Additionally, ODI has received 191 reports of L87 engine failures in engines produced after the production period cited in Recall 25V-274. GM reported receiving 6,953 complaints of post-remedy engine failure. ODI is opening this Engineering Analysisto continue investigating complaints of post-remedy engine failure. The subject engine failures were investigated as part of a Preliminary Evaluation (PE25001). GM determined that these engine failures were due to multiple supplier manufacturing and quality issues. GM issued recall 25V-274 to address the supplier manufacturing and quality issues produced between March 1, 2021, and May 31, 2024. Based on the issuance of recall 25V-274, NHTSA has closed PE25001. ODI continues to receive a significant number of reports of engine failure in vehicles outside the scope of 25V-274. This presents a potential safety risk that warrants further investigation. ODI is opening this Engineering Analysis (EA) to further evaluate the scope and severity of the potential problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related issues of vehicles built outside the recall scope. PE25001 · Loss Of Motive Power Due To Engine Failure
Opened Jan 16, 2025 · Closed Oct 23, 2025
Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Engine; Engine And Engine Cooling:engine:hard Parts Internal/mechanical
On January 16, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE25001 after receiving complaints and field reports concerning engine failures in MY2019-2024 GM’s full-size truck and SUV T1XX platform equipped with the L87 6.2L V8 engine. These complainants alleged engine bearing failures resulting in knocking and growling noises from the engine’s bottom end and in some cases more severe consequences such as broken connecting rods leading to engine damage, or engine failure. If the engine fails during vehicle operation, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. On April 24, 2025, GM issued recall 25V-274 to address the concern with L87 engines produced between March 1, 2021, and May 31, 2024. GM cited the root cause as a supplier manufacturing and quality issues. GM’s recall remedy will be either an oil change to an oil with a different viscosity or engine replacement depending on the results of the remedy inspection procedure. To date, ODI has received 1,157 allegations of engine bearing failure. GM submitted 55,464 reports in total, with 29,752 unique VINs. ODI continues to receive allegations of L87 engine failures which fall outside of the scope of recall 25V-274. Based on GM’s recall, ODI will close this PE. NHTSA will continue to investigate complaints of engine failure outside the scope of recall 25V-274 as part ofEngineering Analysis (EA25007). To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
