I was driving on the interstate, when all my dash lights came on. When stationed, it would vibrate and have excessive smoke come from the exhaust when I would start driving again. After arriving to my destination there was an unusual burning/smokey smell when I got out of the vehicle. I got it scanned and it said it was a cylinder 2 misfire. I replaced the spark plug, coolant, gaskets. Still wasn’t fixed. Then I replaced the fuel injector. Still not working. The mechanic said the oil psi was 30. The vehicle was also burning thru gas and oil quicker than usual. Took it to the dealership and they said it needs a whole new engine and warranty is unsure if they will cover it or not.

While driving the vehicle I began to hear a ticking noise in the engine (lifter tick) and the check engine light came on. The vehicle began to lose power and started shaking. I stopped the vehicle and turned it off and restarted it and began to drive as I was not far from home. I found that the vehicle did not have full power and was not firing on all cylinders. After getting the vehicle home a diagnostic code showed cylinder 2 was not firing. The vehicle was towed to the dealership who confirmed there was a bad lifter and roller that dug into the camshaft. The sudden loss of power and shaking of the vehicle while driving is the safety concern. It seems that this is a common problem with these engines that GM is aware of and has failed to address.

The engine experienced a failure in cylinder #5, confirmed by diagnostic trouble code P0305 (Cylinder 5 Misfire). The vehicle and engine remain in their post-failure condition and are available for inspection upon request. The problem was confirmed through diagnostic testing, which retrieved code P0305 (Cylinder 5 Misfire). The misfire is present whenever the vehicle is running and is reproducible. The vehicle has been inspected by a service center and diagnosed with a cylinder #5 misfire. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer or insurance representatives but is available for inspection upon request. No police inspection was required as there was no collision. The failure occurred suddenly while driving at approximately 45 mph. Immediately after the failure, the check engine light illuminated and the engine began running extremely rough. When during warranty, the vehicle was serviced multiple times for engine shuttering and skipping.

Original owner of 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 truck with 5.3L V-8 engine and 64,557 miles. On January 2, 2026 while driving on local state road, experienced sudden significant loss of power, engine shuddering during acceleration, ticking noise from engine compartment, and dash messages “Service Parking Brake” and “Service ESC”. While merging onto another highway at normal traffic speed, I pressed the accelerator to safely increase speed and merge with traffic. At that moment, I heard a loud bang coming from the front engine bay. Immediately afterward, the vehicle began making loud rattling noises, multiple warning lights illuminated on the dashboard, and the vehicle rapidly lost power. The car began decelerating while still on the highway, creating a dangerous situation. I was unable to maintain speed with surrounding traffic. Had another vehicle been approaching at a higher speed, this sudden loss of power could have resulted in a serious accident. The vehicle was later inspected by a Chevrolet dealership, which confirmed that the engine failed at approximately 77,000 miles. The dealer stated that the engine lifters failed and caused damage to the camshaft, resulting in complete engine failure. This failure occurred without warning and while the vehicle was in motion, presenting a serious safety risk. A sudden engine power loss at highway speeds significantly increases the risk of a collision. I am concerned this may be a defect affecting other vehicles as well.

General Motors (GM) is recalling certain 2019-2021 GMC Sierra 1500 and Silverado 1500 vehicles equipped with certain accessory road tires and a 17" spare tire. The 17" spare tire provided with the vehicle is not compatible for use with the accessory wheels, which can cause the anti-lock brake system (ABS) to not function properly under certain conditions.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An ABS system that does not function properly can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will provide a new 17" spare tire and wheel assembly that is compatible with the accessory wheels, free of charge. Dealers will also apply a new spare tire information label, and provide owners with an owner's manual insert clarifying which spare tire to use with the accessory road tires and with the 17" original tires. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks. The battery positive (B+) cable rings may have been manufactured with excessive glue, potentially causing an intermittent electrical connection between the B+ cable and alternator.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An intermittent electrical connection between the B+ battery cable and the alternator could cause the vehicle to stall, increasing the risk of a crash. The intermittent connection could also lead to electrical arcing, which could generate sufficient heat to damage surrounding material, increasing the risk of a fire.
Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect for the presence of glue or other contamination at the B+ cable attachment to the alternator and clean the connection and reattach the B+ cable connection, as necessary. If arcing has damaged the cable, nut, or alternator, the dealer will replace the damaged components. All services will be performed free of charge. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 1,157 reports of engine bearing failure failures in the L87 6.2L engine produced by General Motors (GM). If the engine fails during vehicle operation, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. On April 24, 2025, GM issued recall 25V-274 to address the concern with L87 engines produced between March 1, 2021, and May 31, 2024. GM cited the root cause as a supplier manufacturing and quality issues. GM’s recall remedy will be either an oil change to an oil with a different viscosity or engine replacement depending on the results of the remedy inspection procedure.
