BRAKES REPAIRED JUN 98, BRAKES SQUEAKED AND MADE A RUBBING SOUND. IT WAS RAINING TRAFFIC WAS STOPPED STARTED TO PROCEED, THEN PRESSED BRAKES HARD CAR CONTINUED TO MOVE IT WAS RAINING SPEED AT TIME NO MORE THAN 3-4 MPH HIT VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. STARTED DRIVING AGAIN HEARD RUBBING SOUND. TOOK TO SHOP AND FOUND THAT THE CALIPERS HAD FROZEN AND BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. ALSO MECHANIC STATED THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM ON THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. WANT MANUFACTURER TO PAY FOR REPAIRS AND REIMBURSE FOR BRAKE REPAIRS

1- EVERY TIME THE WEATHER IS WET AND COLD, ALL 4 DOORS FREEZE SHUT. THIS IS DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE BODY. THE DOORS ALLOW WATER TO COLLECT ALL AROUND THE TOP AND VERTICAL SIDES AND THE WATER FREEZES...LOCKING ME OUT OF THE CAR. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR MFG HAVE A SOLUTION. 2- BRAKES: EVERY TIME THE WEATHER IS WET, OR EVEN WITH HIGH HUMIDITY THE BRAKES SQUEAL AND GRAB WHICH INITIATES THE ABS SYSTEM WHICH IN TURN BRINGS THE CAR TO A "JERKY MOTION" STOPPING SITUATION. Consequence: THIS CAN CAUSE THE WINDSHIELD WASHER/WIPER TO WORK INTERMITTENTLY AND COULD ULTIMATELY RESULT IN INOPERATIVE WIPERS. IF THIS WERE TO OCCUR IN A SEVERE WEATHER SITUATION, DRIVER VISIBILITY COULD BE REDUCED, INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE OLD DESIGNED WASHER/WIPER SWITCHES WITH A NEWLY DESIGNED SWITCH.

THESE VEHICLES WERE ASSEMBLED WITH THROTTLE CABLE SUPPORT BRACKETS THAT COULD CONTACT THE THROTTLE LEVER SYSTEM AND INHIBIT THE THROTTLE RETURN. THIS DOES NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 124, "ACCELERATOR CONTROL SYSTEMS."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: CONSEQUENCE OF NON-COMPLIANCE: THE THROTTLE MAY FAITL TO RETURN QUICKLY CAUSING THE ENGINE SPEED TO NOT DECREASE TO A LEVEL ANTICIPATED BY THE DRIVER.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE THROTTLE CABLE SUPPORT BRACKET.

Consequence: INADEQUATE TORQUE CAN CAUSE THESE BOLTS TO VIBRATE, LOOSEN, OR FALL OUT RESULTING IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND INCREASE THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL RETORQUE THE STEERING COLUMN SUPPORT BRACKET ATTACHING BOLTS TO THE CORRECT SPECIFICATIONS.

A RIGHT-HAND LOWER CONTROL ARM TAPERED BALL JOINT MOUNTING HOLE WAS INCORRECTLY MACHINED. MOVEMENT WITHIN THIS ATTACHMENT CAN ALLOW THE BALL JOINT STUD TO FATIGUE AND FRACTURE.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: IF THE BALL JOINT FRACTURED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL TO THE VEHICLE CAN OCCUR.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE RIGHT-HAND LOWER CONTROL ARM AND BALL JOINT STUD ON ALL INVOLVED VEHICLES.
