Vehicle stopped three times on highway. There is an issue with fuel injection. I am repairing the same thing every year and it is stopping every year on highway. They keep on repairing/replacing the module and I still get the problem. I missed a big rear collision because of this. This model has so many issues. Suspension broke. So many issues with gas pump. being it a first generation hybrid, it can cause threat to so many people if we let these vehicles be on road.

My BWW X5 hybrid give me a sudden error in the middle of the road. The error was Drive train malfunction and suddenly it stopped couple of seconds after the warning. Leaving me in the middle of the road. Thankfully I was on a low traffic road, so there was no accident. It was a scary situation to be at. After that, I managed to start the car after couple of tries and pull it over to a safer place. The car was useless so I had to call my BMW dealer. To add to the bad experience the dealer took long to service my car. They are unable to find the problem and it is charging me extra $1,170 for another 8 hours of labor without any guarantees. My BMW is on excellent condition with 40k miles only. The car never alert me of any signs or warnings. This is a major failure that should not happen to any car owner in these days.

VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN FOR SERVICE 5 TIMES WITH ELECTRICAL ISSUES IN THE PAST YEAR. WE WERE IN OUR 2017 BMW X5 DIESEL DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 14S IN SANTA CLARITA, CA ON THE 17TH OF NOV 2017 AT 1:30PM . ACCELERATED TO PASS A CAR, FELT A SUDDEN SURGE, DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION INDICATION CAME ON, INDICATED SAFE TO PROCEED AT A MODERATE SPEED. ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE, NO RESPONSE. WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE RIGHT MEDIAN BETWEEN THE FREEWAY AND THE ON-RAMP AWAY FROM ON-COMING CARS. BMW CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND WAS NOT ABLE TO START. CONTACTED BMW ASSIST, WAS INFORMED THAT IT WOULD BE ABOUT A 3 TO 4 HOUR WAIT FOR THE TOW VEHICLE. TOW VEHICLE ARRIVED AT 2:45 PM, UNABLE TO PUT X5 IN NEUTRAL, HAD TO USE SKID PLATES TO GET X5 ONTO THE TOW VEHICLE. GOT THE X5 TO THE DEALERSHIP AT 3:20PM, INFORM THE CONSULTANT WHAT HAPPENED AND LEFT THE X5 THERE. CONSULTANT CALLED ON MONDAY AND INFORMED US THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WAS THE ISSUE AND THAT BRASS SHAVING FROM THE FUEL PUMP CONTAMINATED THE SYSTEM, INFORMED US THAT THEY WERE GOING TO REPLACE ANYTHING FROM THE BACK TO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE THAT WAS EFFECTED BY THE FUEL PUMP.

MY BMW X5 2017 HIT MY GARAGE DOOR AFTER I PUT IT IN PARK MODE. I BELIEVE THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY ITS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND THE FAILED HANDBRAKE. ON THAT NIGHT, I STOPPED MY CAR ON A SLIGHTLY INCLINED DRIVEWAY. I TURNED ON THE HANDBRAKE, PUT THE CAR IN PARK MODE, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, AND THEN STEPPED OUT OF THE CAR. ABOUT 10 SECONDS LATER, THE CAR ROLLED FORWARD AND HIT MY GARAGE DOOR. IT WAS SNOWING THAT NIGHT, BUT THE SNOW WAS LESS THAN ONE INCH. THE CAR DIDN'T SLIP BECAUSE THE FOUR WHEELS ROLLED FORWARD. I TESTED IT A FEW TIMES RIGHT AFTER THE INCIDENT AND THE CAR STILL ROLLED FORWARD WITH THE HANDBRAKE ON AND AFTER SHIFTING TO P MODE. THE TRANSMISSION AND HANDBRAKE FAILED TO WORK SEVERAL TIMES ON THAT NIGHT, BUT I CANNOT RE-GENERATE THE SAME RESULT SINCE THAT NIGHT. WHEN I SEARCHED FOR SIMILAR CASES ONLINE, I FOUND THAT A BMW X5 2012 HAD THE SAME ISSUE IN 2013. BMW DENIED THAT MY CAR HAS ANY ISSUES AFTER INSPECTING IT, IT IS THE SAME RESPONSE TO THE CASE IN 2013. THIS CAR IS UNSAFE FOR PEDESTRIANS AND DRIVERS. WE NEVER KNOW WHEN THE TRANSMISSION AND HANDBRAKE WILL FAIL TO WORK PROPERLY. IT HAPPENED ONCE, AND IT CAN HAPPEN AGAIN ANYTIME, ANYWHERE.

WHILE RETURNING FROM TEXAS AND DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS MY CAR'S DRIVETRAIN WARNING LIGHT SAID I NEEDED SERVICE BUT I COULD CONTINUE DRIVING AT MODERATE SPEEDS. I DROVE TO BMW OF DALLAS. THEY DETERMINED MY #5-CYLINDER FUEL INJECTOR HAD FAILED. I STAYED THE NIGHT IN DALLAS AND RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY. AFTER REPLACING THE INJECTOR, THE CAR WOULD NOT IDLE PROPERLY. I DROVE A RENTAL CAR HOME AND LEFT MY CAR. THE DEALERSHIP DID EXTENSIVE TESTING TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE ISSUE OVER THE NEXT THREE AND A HALF WEEKS. EVENTUALLY THEY DETERMINED THE INJECTOR FAILURE CAUSED A BACKFIRE WHICH BENT THE #5 INTAKE VALVE. THE ENGINE HAD TO BE REMOVED SO THEY COULD REPLACE THE DAMAGED COMPONENTS. ALL VALVES HAD TO BE LAPPED; THE VALVE STEM SEALS HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THE ENGINE HAD TO BE REINSTALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TRANSPORTED TO ME 26 DAYS LATER. I DISCOVERED THREE OF THE FIVE SCREWS WHICH SECURE THE BATTERY COVER WERE MISSING. I DROVE THE CAR FOR THE NEXT THREE DAYS AFTER WHICH IT BEGAN MAKING CLANKING NOISES FROM THE DRIVESHAFT. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO BMW OF KANSAS CITY SOUTH WHO DETERMINED THE DALLAS DEALERSHIP FAILED TO INSTALL ONE OF THE DRIVESHAFT'S CARRIER BOLTS NOR DID THEY PROPERLY TORQUE A SECOND CARRIER BOLT. THESE ARE SERIOUS PERSONAL SAFETY CONCERNS. THESE REPAIRS WERE ALSO REPORTED TO CARFAX AS REGULARLY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. I FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH BMW OF NORTH AMERICA AND ASKED THAT THEY REPURCHASE THE VEHICLE WHICH THEY REFUSED TO DO. INSTEAD THEY HAVE OFFERED ME A SMALL CASH SETTLEMENT IF I WILL SIGN A GENERAL RELEASE WAIVING MY RIGHTS AND AGREEING THAT I NOT TO PURSUE ANY FUTURE CLAIMS OR LEGAL ACTIONS AGAINST THEM OR THEIR DEALERSHIPS. I'M REPORTING THIS AS I AM CONCERNED THESE ISSUES MAY BE PREVALENT WITH OTHER BMW X5 VEHICLES WHICH COULD POTENTIALLY RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2013-2018 328d, 328d xDrive, 2014-2018 328d Sports Wagon, 328d xDrive Sports Wagon, 2014-2016 535d, 535d xDrive, 2015 740Ld xDrive, 2015-2017 X3 xDrive28d SAV, and 2014-2017 X5 xDrive35d SAV diesel vehicles equipped with an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) module with an integrated cooler. The EGR cooler may leak internally, causing coolant to mix with diesel engine soot, which could result in smoldering particles and a melting intake manifold.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A melting intake manifold increases the risk of a fire.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the EGR cooler and inspect the intake manifold, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. This recall includes all vehicles previously recalled under 18V-755. Vehicles previously recalled under 18V-755 will need to have the new remedy performed for this recall. An interim owner notification letter was mailed on January 18, 2022. BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2014-2018 328d, 328d xDrive, X5 xDrive35d, 2014-2016 535d, 535d xDrive, 2015 740Ld xDrive, and 2015-2017 X3 xDrive28d vehicles. The high-pressure fuel pump may fail.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Fuel pump failure can cause an engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the high-pressure fuel pump, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on January 14, 2022. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2013-2018 BMW 328d and 328d xDrive, 2014-2018 328d Sports Wagon and 328d xDrive Sports Wagon, 2014-2016 535d and 535d xDrive, 2015 740Ld xDrive, 2015-2017 X3 xDrive28d SAV and 2014-2017 X5 xDrive35d SAV vehicles equipped with an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) module with an integrated cooler. If the EGR cooler leaks internally, the coolant can mix with diesel engine soot. The high EGR temperatures may result in these particles possibly smoldering and melting the intake manifold.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: The melting intake manifold can increase the risk of a fire.
Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the EGR cooler as necessary. If a leak has already occurred, the engine intake manifold will also be replaced. As such, these vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: The incorrect tire size on the label does not comply with FMVSS number 110.
Remedy: BMW has notified the affected owners and is providing them with a corrected tire information placard, free of charge. The recall began June 15, 2017. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

BMW of North America, Inc. (BMW) is recalling certain 2017 X5 sDrive35i, X5 xDrive35i, X5 xDrive50i, X5 xDrive35d, and X5 xDrive40e vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with passenger frontal air bag modules using certain air bag inflators that may not vent properly in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: If the inflator cannot vent properly, the inflator may rupture, resulting in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants and causing serious injury or death.
Remedy: BMW has notified owners, and dealers will replace the air bag modules, free of charge. The recall began on March 20, 2017. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE21-021 on October 14, 2021, to investigate incidents alleging a stall/loss of motive power as a result of high-pressure fuel pump failures in certain model year (MY) 2019-2020 Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 heavy duty trucks equipped with 6.7L Cummins turbodiesel engines. During the investigation, ODI sought to determine if the related defect allegation was limited in scope to the recalled population. After review of information request response materials from both FCA and BMW, NHTSA determined that sufficient information to identify a comprehensive recall population could not be produced by FCA and BMW.During the investigation FCA filed recalls 22V406, 22E048, 22V767, and 22E087 which include vehicles not identified in the initial subject population by ODI. ODI also received recall 21V586, involving loss of motive power due to failed CP4 fuel pumps on certain BMW manufactured vehicles. An information request letter response received from BMW indicated that failed pumps on their vehicles were caused by an interaction between pump internal components and US market diesel fuel, leading to increased slip and eventual particle-generating wear surface. NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. Based on the petitioner's withdrawal, DP22-005 is closed. Closure of this DP does not represent a determination by NHTSA regarding the subject matter of the petition.

From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants.
