On 3/1/2026 while leaving church service, my family and I were on a major highway with the speed limit at 65 mph. The vehicle just slowed down without giving any power and could not get it up to the speed to continue with traffic. This vehicle could put me and my family at risk for a possible dangerous situation.

I am filing a complaint in regard to recall 93c for my 2017 Alfa Romeo. The dealership/manufacturer has failed to provide me with a fix, parts or even just a loaner car due to the safety hazard. My car has gone limp mode several times on the highway at speeds of 70mph. This is unacceptable.

While driving my Alfa Romeo, the vehicle experienced a significant malfunction involving the engine and power-train system. The vehicle will not accelerate properly and repeatedly goes into limp mode, resulting in a sudden and severe loss of power, especially while driving on the highway. The engine warning light is illuminated, and the vehicle hesitates, jerks, and fails to respond. This malfunction created a direct safety risk to me and other drivers on the road. The loss of acceleration occurred while traveling at highway speeds, making it difficult to merge, maintain traffic flow, or avoid surrounding vehicles. The problem has been reproduced multiple times, and the vehicle consistently enters limp mode when attempting to accelerate. The issue has been observed during normal driving conditions and does not appear to be a one-time event. The vehicle and its components are available for inspection by the manufacturer, dealer, insurance representative, or any required agency. At this time, the vehicle has not yet been formally inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance company, but I am prepared to provide access for evaluation. No warning lights and symptoms prior to the complete failure.

My 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia, VIN [XXX] , is currently disabled and inoperable at the authorized dealer, Alfa Romeo Fiat of Daytona (Service Advisor: Kevin Chapman). The vehicle is subject to the active and known Safety Recall 93C (Low-Pressure Fuel Pump). My vehicle is experiencing a total loss of motive power and engine stall, which is the exact safety hazard described in the recall. Furthermore, the initial failure of the low-pressure fuel system appears to have caused secondary consequential damage to the expensive High-Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP), and the vehicle is also exhibiting a severe and recurring electrical defect (new battery dying, random dash warnings/brake lights flashing). The manufacturer, FCA/Stellantis (Customer Care Case #XXX...), and the dealer are engaging in a runaround to deny basic safety recall provisions: 1. Refusal to Cover Consequential Damage: FCA Customer Care stated that if the issue is 'not the 93C recall then it will all be customer pay,' which conflicts with NHTSA guidelines requiring the manufacturer to remedy the primary defect and all damage proximately caused by it. 2. Refusal to Provide Loaner/Rental Car: FCA stated the loaner is up to the dealer, and the dealer stated it is up to the diagnostic. This runaround has created an unreasonable delay in the repair of a federally mandated safety recall, leaving the owner without transportation for a disabled, unsafe vehicle. I am requesting NHTSA intervention to compel FCA/Stellantis to: a) Authorize a complimentary rental car/loaner until the vehicle is fully repaired. b) Provide a formal commitment that all damage proven to be a direct, proximate consequence of the 93C fuel pump failure will be covered at no cost. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -YES, THE DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? -VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN FURTHER INSPECTED AS THERE IS NO RESOLUTION TO THIS MATTER AT THIS TIME. FOR THAT REASON, I AM VERY HESITANT TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE UNTIL THIS ISSUE IS PROPERTLY RESOLVED. IS SIGNIFICANT SAFETLY CONCERN FOR ME, MY PASSANGERS AND OTHERS IN THE ROAD AS WELL. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? - NO DIRECT WARNING OR MESSAGE HOWEVER, ELECTRICAL ISSUES HAVE BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM BUT NO MAIN SOURCE HAVE EVER BEEN FOUND, EVEN AFTER MULTIPLES APPOINMENTS AND REPAIRS AT THE SHOP. Dear NHTSA, I am writing to report a serious safety incident involving my vehicle. On [XXX] at approximately [XXX], while driving to an extracurricular activity for my [XXX] child, my vehicle displayed the following warning messages: “Service Engine,” “Service Electronic Throttle Control,” and “Start/Stop Unavailable.” Immediately after these warnings appeared, the vehicle shut off and shifted into neutral. I lost the ability to steer, creating a highly dangerous situation. I was on a busy road approaching an interstate entrance and had to react quickly to avoid a potential accident. Fortunately, I was able to maneuver the vehicle safely to the side of the road, but I believe this malfunction presents a serious risk to public safety and should be investigated. Multiple times the check engine light will come on while driving. It shuts engine down at any speed. This usually happens during warm up phase of vehicle. You have to pull over and cycle power off and on multiple times before it starts and runs again. It has stalled in intersections causing traffic delays. Once it starts and codes clear it typically runs fine for long periods. Symptom codes include throttle system failure, fuel pump low pressure, miss fire, bcm communication error. Cycling off and on clears codes and car operates normally until next cold start. Symptoms seem to worsen when driving in n or a mode. Symptoms seem to worsen when remote starting vehicle.

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Fuel System, Gasoline; Fuel System, Gasoline:delivery:fuel Pump; Fuel System, Gasoline:delivery:fuel Pump:control/drive Module

On January 8, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation (PE24003) to assess allegations of loss of motive power resulting from low-pressure fuel pump failures in certain MY 2017–2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia vehicles.  The subject vehicles are equipped with 2.0L 4-cylinder and 2.9L 6-cylinder turbocharged engines and manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles US LLC (FCA US).  Reports received by ODI alleged stall and loss of motive power at speeds above 25 mph, with several reporting that the condition resulted in permanent disablement of the vehicle.  Many reports described recurrence of the failure after an initial repair. During the investigation, ODI determined that the subject vehicles were equipped with fuel delivery pumps supplied by Vitesco Technologies Germany GmbH.  ODI also confirmed that MY 2018–2019 Alfa Romeo Stelvio vehicles were equipped with the same pump.  ODI’s analysis identified an elevated failure rate associated with the original pumps installed in the subject vehicles.  The failure mode involves interruption of fuel flow, resulting in fuel starvation and an unexpected loss of motive power, typically with little to no advance warning. In responses to ODI Information Requests submitted in April and June 2024, FCA US reported 2,162 customer reports (complaints, field reports, and legal claims) and 464 warranty claims related to the alleged defect.  Combined with ODI’s data, the investigation identified 1,900 unique VIN experiencing failures.  Review of the combined data confirmed one crash and no injuries, fatalities, or fires. On September 9, 2025, FCA US filed recall 25V-586, covering 29,467 MY 2017–2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia vehicles and 24,382 MY 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio vehicles, all equipped with the suspect Vitesco fuel delivery pump.  FCA US reported that the remedy is under development, with dealer notifications planned on or about September 16, 2025, and owner notifications scheduled to begin on or about October 29, 2025. The recall action initiated by FCA US addresses the alleged defect identified in this PE. Accordingly, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances, including an evaluation of the remedy once available. To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
