POWER STEERING IS REDUCED AND THE STEERING WHEEL IS HARDER TO TURN THAN NORMAL. PROBLEM USUALLY BEGINS EARLY IN THE MORNING. OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE DOES NOT SEEM TO MATTER. THIS PROBLEM MAY GO AWAY IF CAR IS TURNED OFF THEN RESTARTED BUT SOMETIMES IT WILL TAKE SEVERAL STOPS AND RESTARTS TO GO BACK TO NORMAL. AT FIRST THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL WEEKS APART BUT NOW MAY IT HAPPEN TWO OR THREE TIMES A WEEK. DISTANCE DRIVEN DOES NOT SEEM TO CURE THE PROBLEM, ONLY A RESTART OR SEVERAL RESTARTS RETURN STEERING TO NORMAL. CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 44,500 MILES AND NOW IS AT 45,400 MILES. THIS IS AN ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING YSTEM SO NO POWER STEERING FLUID CHECK IS POSSIBLE. I AM AFRAID THE POWER STEERING WILL COMPLETELY FAIL SOMEDAY SOON.

VISIBILITY WAS OF COURSE IMMEDIATELY AND DRAMATICALLY REDUCED. I BENT FORWARD AND TO THE RIGHT TO LOOK THROUGH THE SMALL SPACE IN THE CENTER OF THE WINDSHIELD UNDER THE HOOD. FORTUNATELY IT WAS A SUNNY MID-AFTERNOON AND TRAFFIC WAS ONLY MODERATE. WITH ASSISTANCE FROM GOD, MY PASSENGERS, AND COOPERATIVE AND OBSERVANT NEARBY DRIVERS, I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY NAVIGATE TO THE FAR RIGHT LANE AND EVENTUALLY OFF THE ROAD WITHOUT FURTHER DRAMA, DAMAGE, OR ANY INJURIES TO THOSE IN MY CAR OR OTHERS.

AFTER DRIVING ON HIGHWAY FOR 20MINS, WHEN DIVING ON CITY STREET OR AT LOW SPEED, TRANSMISSION FAILED TO SHIFT GEARS, LOST MANUAL SHIFT CONTROL ALSO, VEHICLE KICKED BACK AND FORTH STRONGLY WITH VERY LOUD SOUND WHEN DRIVING AND SHIFTING AUTOMATICALLY. ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, SAYS EMISSIONS SYSTEM FAILED, LANE DEPARTURE WARNING SYSTEM FAILED, TRANSMISSION FAILED. AFTER RESTARTED(MULTIPLE TIMES), TRANSMISSION STILL NOT WORKING PROPERLY, VERY ROUGH SHIFT, WHOLE CAR KICKED AND SHAKED WHEN GEAR UP. IF PRESS GAS HARDER, GEAR WILL NOT GO UP ON TIME, RPM WILL GO VERY HIGH, SPEED REMAINS SLOW. IF PRESS BRAKE, GEAR SHIFTS DOWN TOO EARLY AND ENGINE WILL SLOW THE CAR IN SUDDEN. CANNOT DRIVE SAFELY OR ON HIGHWAY AT ALL. SAME ISSUE HAPPENED IN JANUARY 2019, DEALER CHANGED SOLENOID CONTROL ASSEMBLY UNDER WARRANTY, BUT SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN IN JUNE AND JULY 2020 AND GOT WORSE AT THIS TIME. SIX SPEED AT TRANSMISSION IN 2014 ACURA MDX. READ A LOT OF REPORTS OF THE SAME ISSUE ABOUT THIS TRANSMISSION FROM OTHER OWNERS.

I WAS DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET BACK HOME WHEN A HAZE STARTED COMING OUT OF THE AIR CONDITIONING VENTS. THAT TURNED INTO BLACK SMOKE COMING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE, UNDERNEATH/BEHIND THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT. FROM THAT SMOKE, A FIRE STARTED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE, INSIDE THE VEHICLE. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE STREET, TURNED THE CAR OFF, GRABBED MY SON WHO WAS IN A CAR SEAT IN THE BACK AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR SAFELY. NOT A MINUTE AFTER WE GOT OUT OF THE CAR, THE ENTIRE CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DID AN INVESTIGATION AND CLASSIFIED IT AS UNDETERMINED, BUT MECHANICAL IN NATURE. WE BOUGHT OUR ACURA BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALER IN 2014 AND HAVE ONLY HAD IT SERVICED AT THE ACURA DEALER. WE HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY ISSUES WITH THE CAR, OTHER THAN REGULAR MAINTENANCE. I'M EXTREMELY CONCERNED THAT THE CAR WOULD BURST INTO FLAMES WHILE DRIVING.
