The steering wheel is quite sticky when I'm driving and causes some safety concern as the effort to turn my car at high speed is affected. Need a resolution on this one quickly as during tight turn and high speeds this is a big safety issue.

Steering becomes “sticky” not centering in an unrestrained state resulting in excessive constant input required to center vehicle in otherwise straight line driving like it is contantly tracking off course and never in a neutral position. I am able to move the steering wheel with some force but it often over corrects the problem. It happens at 25 MPH and over regardless of drive mode. In a quick internet search this seems to be an issue with both Acura Integra and Honda Civic. I first noticed it on the highway at 55+ MPH but am noticing it at lower speeds. This has happened multiple times not 1 incident.

Steering becomes sticky, making it difficult to turn the vehicle. It first occurred on the highway going 70 mph where it almost completely locked and caused the car to veer off road or into other vehicles. It now always takes more effort to turn the wheel and feels very unsafe. Acura has validated the problem, saying power steering rack is faulty, part #53620-3S5-A34. The part if on back order so it will be months until it is replaced. However the replacement is the exact same part that will very likely get the same problem.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Electronic Power Steering How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Sticky power steering needed to make micro adjustments while driving on freeway or speed 40mph+. Sticky steering causes me to overcorrect, merging to other lane. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? An appointment is made for the dealer to check the vehicle on 01/20/2024 Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? NA Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, No illuminated warning lamps nor codes or messages. And when did they first appear? I noticed the issue started last November 2023 right around reaching 3500 miles. Below are what I observed that changed: Sticky steering observed while- - Sitting idle - Driving straight line on freeway or speed 40mph + - Driving on curvy road - Backing up or parking Other issues noticeable or changes in the car since I bought it: - Keep making micro adjustment on freeway speed - feels like power steering shuts off while on idle (auto stop disabled) - steering sometimes feel harder in any drive mode (sport, normal, and comfort - feels like there's a gap (lack of precise word) in steering I made observations with vehicle safety features on and off. An accident almost happened on 01/10/2024 while driving on curvy road. The steering momentarily felt sticky and hard causing left side of my car to go past the dividing lane. There were oncoming vehicles when it happened luckily car responded before completely crossing the dividing lane.

The steering wheel "sticks" in the center position and does not move smoothly from the center position while driving the vehicle. It requires extra effort to move the steering wheel from the center position resulting in the steering wheel moving slightly further than the amount desired . This started a couple of days ago and the vehicle is three months old with approximately 3300 miles. I have checked the smoothness of the steering using the vehicle's different driving modes, i.e. Comfort, Normal and Sport modes. The result is the same no matter which drive mode is selected. I am concerned about the issue getting worse which is a safety concern. An appointment has been scheduled with the dealer to inspect the vehicle. The vehicle does not display any type of warning messages.

• When driving, the steering wheel occasionally "sticks" in place. It's most noticeable when 1.) Exiting the apex of a curve and attempting to gradually return the wheel to the center position, and 2.) Driving in a straight line for an extended period then attempting to turn the wheel to navigate a curve. The steering wheel requires significant driver input to "unstick" it and move freely. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. • This is a major safety concern as the input needed to "unstick" the wheel may lead to overcorrection and loss of control. It also makes slight steering adjustments difficult due to the input needed to "unstick". Several times this has led to unintended swerving. I routinely transport my young children around and I fear for the safety of them and myself. After doing some research, this seems to be a well known issue with late model Integra/Civic/CR-V and several wrecks have been reported as a result. The bottom line is I do not feel safe driving this car but it's my only means of transportation. • I have not yet taken the car to a dealer. • No manufacturer or agency has inspected the vehicle. • No warning lights are present. The vehicle currently has 3,800 miles, I first noticed the issue around 2,000 miles. It has progressively gotten worse since the initial occurrence.

Recently, after approximately 4000 miles of driving, my steering has become “sticky.” When trying to make small adjustments in direction, my steering wheel gets “stuck” and requires more force than normal to make the steering correction. This extra force causes a greater change in direction than intended. This past week while traveling on an interstate with wet roads…this problem presented itself. It felt incredibly dangerous as I felt I was zigzagging across the lane. This issue seems to be somewhat intermittent, but I am struggling to determine under what conditions the problem presents itself. Again… this issue presented with around 4000 miles on the odometer. I currently have approximately 5200 total miles driven.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2023 Honda Accord, Accord Hybrid, and 2024 HR-V, Pilot, and Acura Integra vehicles. The driver's seat cushion frame may not have been tightened properly, which can result in a loose seat. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 207, "Seating Systems."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A loose driver's seat may not adequately restrain the driver during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the driver's seat cushion frame, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 10, 2026. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are ONC, KND, BNE and ZNF. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning February 5, 2026. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 24V859.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Acura Integra, Civic Type R, CR-V Hybrid, CR-V, HR-V, 2022-2025 Civic, Civic Hatchback, 2024-2025 Acura Integra Type S, 2025 CR-V Fuel Cell EV, Civic Hybrid, and Civic Hatchback Hybrid vehicles. The steering gearbox assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can cause excessive internal friction and lead to difficulty steering the vehicle.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Difficulty steering can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the worm gear spring and redistribute or add grease as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 18, 2024. Owners may contact Honda Customer Service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are SJS, MJU, QJT and VJV.

On November 29, 2023, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this Engineering Analysis (EA23003) to assess allegations of momentary increase in steering effort in model years (MY) 2022-2023 Honda Civic, 2023MY Honda CR-V, and 2023MY Acura Integra vehicles (subject vehicles). The complaints received by ODI alleged that the subject vehicles experienced a momentary increase in required steering effort (described as “sticky steering”) occurring mostly at highway speeds after driving for an extended amount of time; these complaints could not be duplicated during dealer service technicians’ quick test drives. The complaints had been received over the previous two years with most occurring with low vehicle mileage. The steering gear of these vehicles is aided by an electrical power assist unit. This power assist unit inputs force on the steering rack via a worm gear and worm wheel assembly. During PE23005, Honda stated this condition of momentary increase in steering effort occurs due to two factors within this power assist unit. First, during manufacturing, the steering worm wheel goes through annealing and component conditioning processes. These processes cause internal stress and strain within the steering worm wheel. This strain is slowly released over the first few months of the vehicle life. Over time, the released strain causes deformation of the teeth on the worm wheel, causing the worm gear to catch on the worm wheel. This catching results in the driver’s momentary increased steering effort. Second, the manufacturing process did not guarantee consistent grease application and, therefore, some subject vehicles received insufficient grease which contributed to the momentary increase in steering effort. During EA23003, ODI further analyzed the potential safety related consequences of the momentary increase in steering effort. NHTSA’s Vehicle Research and Test Center (VRTC) duplicated the allegations of increased steering effort. In addition, VRTC discovered the steering worm wheel and worm gear tended to push grease out of the meshing area, resulting in large amounts of grease resting on top of the worm wheel. Information Request responses collected and reviewed by ODI showed Honda had also discovered this additional root cause during NHTSA’s EA. In addition, Honda discovered the preload of the worm wheel gear spring was set too high, increasing the gear slide load and resulting in higher friction and increased torque fluctuation when steering. The number of consumer complaints made to ODI continued to increase with the expansion of scope from the PE to the EA. Additionally, during EA23003, ODI received ten complaints alleging a crash, in addition to the 13 complaints ODI had received as of the time it opened EA23003. In total, 23 crashes have been reported to ODI due to this alleged defect. On October 3, 2024, Honda filed NHTSA Recall No. 24V-744 to address this defect. The recall will provide consumers with a new steering worm wheel gear spring with a decreased load. Additionally, dealerships will add additional grease and relocate any grease sitting on top of the worm wheel back into the meshing area. The scope of this recall includes all Honda vehicles that were manufactured with this specific improperly produced steering worm wheel and spring. In view of the recall action being taken by Honda, ODI is closing EA23003. NHTSA reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.
